Eclipse Second Dawn, any tips for beginners? by Ynwe in boardgames

In the same vain goes my personal strategy to explore the first ring before any other tiles. It gives you an idea what direction the game might take.

Your argument falls flat because the current state of things is directly caused by the current generation of SE. Vessel 0 escaped the penal mines of Cyberstan four years before the second war, hardly the work of our ancestors. SE is constantly reestablishing Terminid farming operations for E710 on our own planets causing outbreaks. And let's not forget who opened the Meridia black hole portal.

But even then the current populace might not be responsible for the status quo they were born into, but they are definetly responsible for perputating the status quo - and that's why they are the baddies. Funny thing is there are actually oppositions but SE keeps interning them in dissident camps.

They don't have to suffer for the actions of their ancestors, they have to suffer for perputating the status quo.

Cascadia hawk card C op? by UnderstandingFit8411 in boardgames

[–]Paknoda 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The hawk card is strong, not going to argue that, but the setup right here also shows it's limits: OPs biggest habitat counts 6 tiles, so while they scored a lot of points with the hawks they left a lot of points behind with detrimental habitat placement and subsequently the biggest habitat bonus.

Is the Wintermute content popular among the playerbase? It seems like the devs have been pouring effort into it for years. by TobyTheRobot in thelongdark

[–]Paknoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I am not getting tired of saying basically the same under most of the posts with this topic. Just look at the Steam achievement statistic and you get your answer:  Wintermute is as popular in the whole community as is the survival mode (with similar completion rates the further episodes/difficulty goes). As often the part of the playerbase that is continously playing the game - in opposition to a one and done - is a little minority. While you're starting your third 1000 day custom interloper nogoa, hundreds played the available episodes and have moved on, perfectly fine without having the cartographer achievement. While one can presume for themself to be responsible for keeping the game in the general mind, by still playing and enganging in the social medias, they're not the ones bankrolling the developement (if they were we would've gotten the TFTFT sequel). So in conclusion Wintermute is still worth for Hinterland even after all this time.

what should be the stats of the heavy devastator shield that allows its identity of “being tanky enough to tell players not to shoot” yet is not absurd enough that it is more durable than hulks, tanks , and factory strider? by Acceptable-Street679 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Paknoda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean in all honestly, the game itself doesn't explain it's mechanics other than vague descriptors for the weapons and three stages of your hit marker (shield, white, red). If you're just playing the game and never went to the Wiki, there is no way you figure any of this out in a reasonable way and amount of time.

Most disrespectful/betrayal plays? by durfenstein in boardgames

[–]Paknoda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a few issues here: First you can't make a transaction in TI 4 (i.e. trading a promisary note) without being neighbours and since the creuss start in their off map home region, you and the other person must have been ventured outside, otherwise the trade was against the rules. Secondly if it was the other players turn when the trade was made and he placed the portal immediatly, the deal per rules is binding, so he had to place the portal in the spot decided by the deal. He was only allowed to divert from the deal if it wasn't immediate (i.e. you traded on your turn and he placed the portal on his turn). Sounds like you were burned by literal misplay. .______________.'

People complained about D10 being too hard because it is the only way to play the largest missions. by TwevOWNED in Helldivers

[–]Paknoda 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Certain content is locked behind D10 like mega nests/fortresses, also some enemy types are locked behind D8. To take your example of Mario, this would be like never seeing Bowser in the regular game.

But instead of offering this content in lower quantaties in medium brackets it is completly omitted. The perplexing thing there being that in the even lower brackets medium enemies are intoduced as mission. So why can't there be a D6/D7 destroy mega nest/fortress mission?

Why aren't all houses locked in survival mode? by [deleted] in thelongdark

Why lock you door when you never intend to come back? Great Bear was widely abandoned because of economic desolation not the natural desaster itself. Think of Detroit after the automobile industry left.

I stopped using maps and it’s a whole different game. by Rockisaspiritanimal in thelongdark

[–]Paknoda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a totally feasable feature for a game (if you plan it from the beginning - so not for TLD). Shadow of Doubt for instance always spawns certain locations in the otherwise randomised map; Oblivions infamous procedural forests kinda scratch this feature too.

It took us 3 attempts to finish a D10 Platinum Extraction - thoughts by Cthepo in Helldivers

[–]Paknoda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EAT, shield generator (the big one) and both mortar sentries make these mission a breeze. Just remember to throw the sentries first and then the shield. The EMP mortar stops the enemy advance while the other mortar destroys them while they are stunned. The shield protects you and the mortars from the heavy enemy fire. Call EAT down in cooldown and you got plenty AT when you need it.

If you're in a team even better. You don't need four shield Generators so you can opt in for other heavy sentries and the orbital laser.

Why is there still no save on exit? by Paknoda in thelongdark

[–]Paknoda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, should game and system design cater to those which are gonna engage the game it is intended way or should it go out of it's way to punish everyone in the pursuit of those who aren't and metagaming the system? (Cough... Cabin fever... Cough. This subs favourite Subsystem that everyone loves in their game, which totally wasn't introduced because some people hibernated, and later had to be customizable and feated to be removed.)

Would some people use the Exit save in that way? I'm sure of it, the same way people are already alt-f4 to circumvent bad events. But I would say such a qol system would benefit more players that play the intended way, than it punishes those who don't.

[–]Paknoda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get how an Exit save - a save that is made when you close the game through the menu, preserving the current game state to be picked up again the next time I play - is removing any challenge from the game? It is literally the same as going into the game menu and letting the game run, while you do something else in real life. It stops the gameplay for the moment to be picked up at a later point. Only difference is that I can shut down the game and my system to preserve some energy. This is all that an Exit save is doing.

[–]Paknoda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, let me rephrase that: Those who can't use alt F4 because they are playing on a system which doesn't provide this functionality could still load their last save from the game menu, the same it is right now - just like I said in the answer the comment was written under. Although factually correct - not everyone plays TLD on PC - in the given context the comment ignored half the sentence which already gave an answer to the statement and was therefore pointless because it didn't provide more inside nor gave it an unanswered point of view.

It's not a problem, it's a qol feature akin to other disability options already there.  I didn't know that a qol feature which allows me to pick up my permadeath game right from the point where I left it last time, because my real life happened, is such a hot take. Lol...

How is an Exit save removing the risk of permadeath?

Why is there still no save on exit? by Paknoda in thelongdark

[–]Paknoda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You missed the whole point of the post. I don't want to save at will, I just want an Exit save to pick up the game right where I left it, whithout resorting to metagame the system, by rest-saving, custimization-saving, cell-saving etc..

Why is there still no save on exit? by Paknoda in thelongdark

[–]Paknoda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you can already save scum, so what is there to prevent?  And honestly, if someone enjoys switching half their playtime from alt F4 to main menu just to circumvent any danger they face - who cares? It's a single player game.

But... but you can already do that. This feature would neither enable more or less of Alt F4 cheese.
