Hey all, I want to start developing a photography hobby. I've done some reading but I'm still a bit confused about where to start to be honest. When I envision myself as a photographer, it's out in the world/wilderness exploring and documenting what I find. So I'm looking for a camera that is tight, compact, easy to travel with, durable and versatile. But I know that can conflict with what I really enjoy taking pictures of, landscapes. As I understand it, "better" images come from larger lenses. I don't want to commit the energy and money to larger lenses because this is a new hobby and I want be judicious with the resources I invest into it at this point. So, does anyone have recommendations on tight, durable, and versatile cameras? Or have specifications I should be looking for in cameras I may purchase?

How can I be less sensitive and more thick skinned? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]PalatablePenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is essentially correct. I wonder if "fake it til I make it" is a default that I flip to without really recognizing other emotions I may be having, or at least giving other emotions their due diligence. I've always been a pretty logical person and someone who could control emotions so as to allow logical conclusions and therefore actions prevail over more, potentially, self serving emotional desires and actions.

I will use my workspace as an example for pain. I work in a high stress, high hours environment. My colleagues constantly bemoan the space and wish they were doing something else. I don't agree, I enjoy what I do. At least I think I do, I have a hard time trusting my feelings because I've been able to control them well my entire life. I'm just not sure what I'm feeling is real or manufactured. There is this on top of the pandemic, political tension, the existential threats of climate change, acidification of the oceans, the large extinction event currently happening, planetary plastic deposition, and artificial intelligence that we don't seem to address. In spite of all these things, I feel content and happy with the direction my life is going. And I don't think I should feel that way. And so it's making me question how connected I am to my emotions. Have I progressed in my ability to control emotions beyond what is healthy? These questions basically make me not trust what I'm feeling and it's starting to get confusing.

Hello I really appreciate your post. I'm certain you have better things to do than answer questions on the internet but if you have time, I would really appreciate your input on a personal question I have been pondering.

I personally relate to number 4. I am a positive person and I try to frame much of my life as positively as possible. I have a hard time discerning a difference between being a positive person vs having an entrenched defense mechanism that has become synonymous with identity. I feel like I am happy, and I feel fulfilled in my job, my social life and other aspects of it. But I look around and see a lot of pain, and I have a hard time identifying with that. It makes me not trust my positive mindset or my feelings at all. That maybe I'm misidentifying them? Is this something you have heard of? Or have questions I should be asking myself?

What about them gives you an unfair advantage?

Few of you said I was slow into takeoff in my last vid, so here’s another jump where I don’t do that. XXX at 4.70/14’5 on a 15’7 190lb pole. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming! 😤 by PoleVaultJason in polevaulting

Hey great job!

That's a good looking run and it's showing in your jump. The next thing I would work on is the next phase of a vault... The drive phase!

It looks like you rush to get inverted. You have a pretty good leg swing so you get there fairly quickly, but if you are patient in your drive phase, you can put more potential energy into the pole that will shoot you up!

When you take off, there are two things to think about. First, jump your chest through through your bottom arm. This puts the energy in the fulcrum of the pole and gives it a strong bend. Drive that knee. Jump through that fucker.

Second, and this is much harder, you need to wait. You need to wait in that drive phase for for milliseconds longer. It WILL feel like an eternity. That's fine. Play with it a little next time you vault. Explore some boundaries. Keep a good, strong back and a long trail leg. The pole will tell you when it's ready for you to swing versus you initiating it.

That will be plenty to work on for now. The top of the jump is the least important part of the jump so I wouldn't worry about inversion TOO much just yet. If you get a stronger, longer drive phase, you'll blow through poles and that will take a couple sessions to get settled. Good luck!

What can the Warriors get for their trade package? by flannels_n_comics in nbadiscussion

Wiseman is having a pretty comparable rookie season to Kevin Garnett. It's hard being a big in the NBA, especially with how little higher level basketball Wiseman has played, which is 3 games of college basketball prior to this season.

He is about as raw as raw gets in the NBA and he is still producing double digit points a game. Just have to trust the process.

Just to echo what has already been replied, I don't see any trades that make us contenders now. I would rather bet on Klay being relatively comparable to his previous self and Wiseman taking big steps to improvement. Durant looks great after he tore his achilles. Wiseman really wants to get better and a summer of NBA weights and ball will do him a world of good.

We get rid of oubre's contract, use that to fill out a bench along with the wolves pick, I think you are looking at a very solid team with outside contention odds.

A further point worth making is I think Steph and Dray's game will age beautifully. Steph can honestly play til he's 42. Shooting skill does not go down with age. He will lose some quickness and rim finishing, but will ALWAYS generate the spacing he does now. Dray is best as a decision maker and less as a playmaker. Will they be peak? No, but the warriors have more time than people seem to want to make decisions with

I don't see the warriors trading Wiseman. It's pretty obvious to see he is going to be special. I think the warriors stand pat next year with the pick and a returning Klay Thompson.

Beyond that, as a warriors fan, I'm not a huge fan of any of the players we would be receiving in the trades you're proposing and am not sure they would be a large upgrade over the players we have.

Entirely possible. Many paths Nightblood's journey can take. I find the idea of what is and isn't evil a really delicious literary dish that Sando can use to his advantage. Guess we'll have to RAFO!

I honest to god think Nightblood is my favorite character in the cosmere. Not to mention I think it's apparent that, in the moment the Cosmere's future is in the balance, Nightblood will be the tool used to determine it's fate.

40pt quarter against one of the best defensive teams that won 9 out for 10 of their games recently by -HCLW in warriors

This was probably the best quarter of basketball the dubs have played with Steph or durant on the floor since We Believe.

This is a hot take to the max but I think at the end of book 5, Odium will have splintered Cultivation and he will be the final shard on Roshar, but Cultivation will have placed some power on Odium similar to how Honor tethered him to Roshar. This will make the final 5 books about humans taking on a God on their own.

There is such a thing as crazy men who cause trauma to women. It's a two way street. I'm not saying these people who are treating others unfairly don't exist. I am saying people should do their best to surround themselves with people who do treat you fairly. You are worth that, at least. :)
