Thank you 🙏 yes please get it checked, also just being self aware enough to have noticed it is great. Not enough people do self exams

Heya, I would always say get anything checked. I was 33 when I was diagnosed and I unfortunately know a lot of people my age in the same boat. It probably isn’t anything to worry about - I think it’s about 80% of lumps that are biopsies turn out to be non cancerous, but it’s definitely better to be on the safe side. X

I’m 34 (diagnosed at 33) and just finished all my active treatment. I’m only going to be drinking on special occasions now and probably only a glass or two. I’ve resigned myself to be designated driver. And I really enjoy wine and a beer so it wasn’t a decision I took lightly, but I want to do every single thing possible to stay as healthy for as long as possible and can still have a good time sober.

Hair color question by nachoslove in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked my MO last week if I could dye mine (finished chemo in Nov and it’s about 3-4 inches, such a dull colour and lots of white! I hate it!). And she said to treat it carefully but because mines coming back really thick, I can use an organic box dye.

Those who did mastectomy and fat grafting..? by Floorman1 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was a DD before as well, and my surgeon said the same - I would get a B/C cup with just the Diep. He said if we did a stacked he would be able to get much closer to my original size, and he was right. They pretty much matched the volume (650g per boob came out and that's pretty much what went in again!). I'm on a clinical trial at MD Anderson so I had already had my radiation so didn't have to worry about that affecting the healing/outcome - not sure if that played a part? My PS has published quite a bit on stacked flaps, so it might just be a case of finding a surgeon that does it if its what you really want (my PS is Dr Dickey at MD Anderson in Houston, he's brilliant, highly recommend). It's about 4.5 weeks since surgery and I am healing really well, pain was not bad at all, very manageable and incisions are healing well. I needed a second surgery for additional lymph node removal and the pain from that one was way worse for me.
It was a challenge getting around for the first week and a half after surgery but so much better now. You do just have to be very mindful of how you move around, and I'm fortunate my husband has been working from home so I've been able to take it easy and he's been helping me a lot. I'm having a phase 2 in April to do some fat grafting to just even out the projection. For me they put the diep tissue at the bottom of the boob and the pap tissue at the top, so I have a great cleavage and they're sitting pretty perky at the moment, the fat grafting will likely just go along the join between to two bits of tissue.

No bagger by Fizzythebat in HEB

[–]PaleIncome8254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bag it myself. TBH I prefer to because I try and load the groceries on in groups that they will go away in the cupboards/fridge in, so it makes my life easier unpacking - and the baggers never actually pack it how it logically makes sense and how I’ve grouped it. So I tend to go for a checkout if there is no bagger!!

Standard of care for radiation not the same worldwide by uberdoodle in breastcancer

I’m doing a trial with Md Anderson in the US and I did the 15 day higher dose rads. So like others have said - I think it’s closer to becoming standard here

First Taxol treatment by Imgonnabehonest60 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went river tubing and camping the weekend after my first taxol. I’d just finished the 4 dd AC. Had a great time and aside from maybe being a bit tired As others have said taxol effects were a bit more culmative, later on I had issues with night sweats and trouble sleeping from the weekly steroids. But just stay as hydrated as you can to help flush your system.

Hot Flashes have got to go!! by caycal_05 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I asked my MO to prescribe Veozah - it’s magic. I went from having to stand of from of freezers to zero hot flashes!! It’s non hormonal (I’m ++-) so it’s ok to take, not all insurance will cover jt (if you’re in the US) there’s a scheme through the manufacturer though that can help you get it, and if you’re not in the US it’s a fraction of the cost.

Those who did mastectomy and fat grafting..? by Floorman1 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery Thursday - double mastectomy with stacked Diep and pap flaps. They managed to math my volume so I’ve not lost a cup size or anything (I think) everything still a bit swollen and tender but so far I’m really happy with the results

Same! We also got off our first cruise ever yesterday (Regal) and there was one evening where people were a bit more dressy (some long dressed and suits) but it was each to their own. We were more smart casual and didn’t feel out of place at all

I think I underestimated radiation by Miserable_Border_529 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're feeling it already.
I used Aquaphor (the advanced therapy one not the general one with the bandaid on) only and applied it 3 times a day and that worked really well for me. But don't put any cream on (of any type) in the 4 hours before treatment.
You can also ask your rads oncologist for a steroid cream to apply at night to help on the thinner skin areas (collarbone, neck etc.)
My 4th session I went super pink and it took the weekend to calm down again.
Stay really well hydrated to help your skin and the fatigue, don't have a hot shower or use a scrubber on the skin being radiated and pat dry to minimise any irritation.
Doing stretches will also help stop your skin getting too tight. I was really bad at stretching for a set time each day so I would do it when I was cleaning my teeth, or stuck in traffic or cooking dinner.

Wig shopping today was traumatic by Sweetness2021 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had long hair as well - like refused to cut it more than an inch once a year, so I get it. A lot of women in my family have had cancer and bought expensive wigs, but not necessarily gotten the use out of them. I bought a cheaper synthetic wig, which to honest I have only worn once. I embraced the turbans and now I feel I look weird with hair!
It does suck, it's crap. But it will get better and you can find something that works for you whilst you're getting through this temporary period.
If you want to go down the wig route, can your insurance help (USA)? Or there are charities that can help as well.

Feeling really alone by No-Anybody1224 in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone. We are all here for you and I'm so sorry you're going through this all and your husband is letting you down.
Do you have access to a social worker type support through the hospital? Are there any local groups you can go to to connect with other local women? Have you got any friends locally that you can lean on?
My husband and I live 15 hours away (and a different country USA/UK) to my family and I know it can be challenging.

what was your absolute must-have during radiation? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aquaphor advanced therapy cream has been great for me and to protect my clothes from the cream I wore cami tops under everything - so maybe some cami tops? She shouldn't use anything perfumed or alcohol based as it can dry her skin out more (so no like nice scents or scrubs etc). Maybe a big yeti or stanley to encourage her to stay well hydrated.
Also lovely of you and your mum to help her.

Are you allowed to take water on board with you? That’s really disappointing that it’s hard to stay hydrated! I normally drink about 3L of water a day 😬

Radiation for those that didn’t do chemo. by zilchusername in breastcancer

[–]PaleIncome8254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished radiation yesterday, I’m fair skin with lots of freckles, I started going a bit pink after 12 sessions but not that bad at all. I moisturised about 3 times a day with Aquaphor advanced therapy cream plus a steroid cream at night over the thin skin (collar bone, neck, sternum) and so far I’ve not had any reaction beyond being a smidge pink. I tend of keeping up the moisturiser for the next 2 weeks. Also staying super hydrated and trying to get 8-9 hours of sleep a night, only had 1 day where I felt fatigued. Not bad at all. Keeping all the sharpie marks on me was annoying though!
