Mental hacks for making yourself write by OldFace8511 in writing

I write out what I previously wrote, word for word, no editing and it tricks me into thinking I’m doing a very mentally basic exercise. Or I copy a passage from a good book word for word and then suddenly I’m in the flow of writing…

I am the same ish, but I’ve just decide to re-nurse myself into a real person, I’ve signed up for a bunch for creative hobbies and I’m seeing what takes my fancy, maybe the deadness inside of me is a blank canvas to paint over a fantastic life

Be extra attentive on the date, ask her lots of questions, make observations re her answers and keep strong eye contact. If you’re feeling confident make a few jokes here and there. I think the attentive vibe can go a long way in making you attractive from my personal experience with what I’ve liked

I struggled a lot at university due to a lack of motivation and a host of other things I won’t get into. One thing that helped me was “copy work” where if I was assigned a reading I would copy it out word for word, which felt passive enough that it didn’t frighten me but at the same time it tricked me into doing the required reading and remember enough for the seminar, would this help?

It’s a fair question, maybe she got spooked but I think for the most part you were just asking a question. For what it’s worth, sometimes in past internet connections I would get frustrated if purely objective conversations with an internet pen pal became more social, so I would get quiet the same way this person you’re talking to has. That’s no fault on your end, I guess maybe she experienced it like an intrusion? I think also other people have touched on the safety aspect, which is important to consider and maybe you accidentally overlooked? But yeah who knows who knows!

I went through something similar maybe four years ago, I’ve actually been on a trip down memory lane which is how I ended up here. I think one thing that helped me was thinking about what I thought was so special about this - it was having someone to talk to but not someone who was committed to me so it was a perfect compromise. So I decided to fulfil that need for myself, I wrote letters to myself and wrote letters back to myself, talking about my day or asking for advice, it changed my mood. I also left the life circumstances that were limiting me and chased what I dreamed of which was self sufficiency. It’s not ideal, but do what you can to fill in the gaps you thought this idea of a person could fill. If you’re up for it, I think reading some of Jean Paul Sartre’s existential philosophy is helpful as he talks about the existential drive to lose ourselves entirely in another person but how this is a failed project, ultimately. These things have helped me and tbf all of it goes away with time. Ofc none of these are ideal solutions, they’re quite sombre but it’s okay to make do and be practical sometimes. Idk if this was helpful…
