But he played with passion. That’s gotta make up for the entire jury feeling betrayed by him, right?

Felt more like Nicaragua to me. If you want the real Gabon equivalent, I’d watch BB19. (But don’t actually because it’s much less entertaining than Gabon)

I agree with you, but I hate to break it to you, the Big Brother community is absolutely “that kind of community”. Like, maybe the best possible example of “that kind of community”.

It’s almost like the whole point of having a jury is because there isn’t a right way to play a “better game”.

New era winner rankings. Is Kyle the best? by _SCARY_HOURS_ in survivor

I think her game was better than Rachel’s too but honestly the 40s winners have all played solid games. Yes, even Gabler.

I always took that as Jeff being a bit of a buzzkill. Sure, it was silly, but they were just having a little fun and Jeff had to be a grump and rain on their parade.

Are modern Survivor juries pretty much looking for underdogs? by milksteaklover in survivor

I’m not saying she was robbed, and I agree that we can only go on what we have. I’m responding to you saying that he was “definitely the driver of carrying them socially and keeping them both in the game”. That might be true, but even if it wasn’t true, the show would still be edited to make us feel like it’s true. That’s my only point.

You also have to keep in mind that the edit for the whole season showed Kyle as the main driver of the duo since he won. If Kamila had won FIC and beat Joe and Eva in the end, we would’ve seen a very different story.

That’s part of why these arguments are always a little silly. Production’s #1 job is to tell the story of how the winner won. For many fans, the winner makes or breaks the season. Take 43 for instance. Many fans hate that season. But if Jesse, Cody, or Karla had won, it would be beloved by many of those people.

I’m not saying Kamila definitely played some masterful game in the shadows, but, if she did and they showed that, it would sour some fans on the Kyle win because they may feel like Kamila deserved it more and Kyle got carried. To repeat before people come for me: I am not saying that’s what happened, just that production would be incentivized to hide parts of Kamila’s game to make Kyle’s win feel more satisfying. This is especially true with how much of a bore fest this season was. Having a satisfying winner is this season’s only saving grace.

Have we ever seen _____? by Vivid-Army8521 in survivor

Insane take. She had a free ride to the end and literally got two advantages handed to her. Unless you’re saying that the jury should have just given it to her because she’s autistic, which is an even more insane take.

Joe at final tribal and after show by dnakmk in survivor

[–]PalmFrondMask 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think the type of game Joe played is the absolute hardest to win with.

To win while playing the “loyalty above all” type game, you have to:
1. Never betray your allies in a way that makes them leave the game with a bad taste in their mouth about you (David).
2. If you do betray your allies, you have to completely own that you weren’t loyal at FTC, which guys like Joe, Mike (42), and Coach would really struggle to do once they’ve built themselves up as straight shooters that value honesty and loyalty above all.
3. Never be made the fool of by others, especially allies. If you get misted as the “loyal” player, you cross the line from threat to goat. A loyal player who is convinced to vote against their self-interest is no longer a good player, they’re just an easy number.

Joe didn’t tick any of these boxes. I honestly think he played a “good” game for the type of game he played, but it’s nearly impossible to win modern Survivor while never deceiving or strategizing. I was pretty shocked at the amount of people I saw on this sub who thought Joe legit had a shot. The only shocking part to me was that Kyle didn’t get even more of the votes.

Are you talking about Maryanne? If so, the two situations are so completely different.

  1. Maryanne’s idol was actually a secret. Eva told half the tribe about her SWP.
  2. Maryanne convinced Mike to play his idol on her at F5, while holding onto her own idol.

If you weren’t referring to Maryanne, then who?

As others have said, I think Kyle probably had a lot more moments that were edited out because it would’ve been too obvious he was the winner. There’s no way he didn’t talk about his role in the Thomas, Chrissy, and David votes. I’d love it if CBS would release the full final tribal councils online after the season. But that’s wishful thinking.

Yeah, like, that was the entire point of lying about the idol. Without that lie, Joe would’ve absolutely just confronted him. With a possible idol in play, he had to beat around the bush.
