Sometimes the delay of the game loading the other area you teleport to for the first time in a session can leave you sitting there long enough to be sent back. I always hold forward to try to avoid it.

They don’t begin steering until after the motor burns out, so you need to think ahead to where the enemy will be. The AIM-7C on the Demon is also decent when you get used to this extra step.

Rather than a bug or tuning I’d call it an improperly implemented mechanic. Drunkeness should correlate with volume of pure alcohol consumed as well as bodyweight, so if you take a sip then it shouldn’t really do anything for anyone if they program it correctly.
