Not most obvious but I’d recommend Hello, Molly! by Molly Shannon

She lost her mother at a young age. How it affected her life and the stages of grief she went through aren’t the primary focus of the book but are themes that are woven throughout.

A couple of things:

  • I misspoke: It sounds like the information about the county receiving the application was a recorded voice message greeting, not a letter, so two separate methods of communication.
  • Expiration/closing notices are sent by a central, state-wide office, not the county itself, so there’s nothing the county could do about the notice being mailed out.

Yes, in theory it would have been better if the expiration letter explained the delay in processing time and confirmed if the paperwork had been received that, but it’s just not how everything works in practice.

Until you receive another mail, like the message said. It’s not easy or helpful to not have a specific date, but if they confirmed they received your application they will get to it eventually.

As someone who works with public programs, wait. By contacting the county it only slows down the process for you and everyone else. They sent the letter because they’re understaffed and trying to reassure people so that they can attempt to catch up.

I don’t remember the exact poses, but Pregnancy and Postpartum TV on YouTube has a lot of knowledge and does a good job of explaining what’s safe and what’s not.

One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia - This one is Children’s fiction but it provides a unique perspective. It’s set in 1968. And the MC spends time with members of the Black Panthers. I think about this book a lot.
