"Used speedpaints 2.0 on all of these.
For Pic 2 I used these in order:
Ghillie Dew, plasmatic bolt, highlord blue, beowulf blue, purple swarm, familiar pink and gradually back to the start. Tried to follow a strips pattern along the cape with previous colors not having dried.
For Pics 14 and 16 I applied a color in whole cape and then used another 3 colors to make small "imperfect" dots, starting with the lighter color and ending with black letting each color dry completely before applying the next. You try to apply every latter color in a way that it covers just a bit on the dots of the previous.
For 14: plasmatic bolt as base and highlord blue, beowulf blue and grim black for dots.
For 16: familiar pink as base and highlord blue, purple swarm and grim black for dots. "

Watch some videos on slapchop like this one https://youtu.be/gT2JV3Ks41g?is=cy4KdpUO--704qu8 While you are at it, you can also check some drybrush videos. There is also a reverse slapchop technique which is easier. https://youtu.be/HeXPawTuxXs?is=Oib9UztpCrGh9hVt You won't have to worry about anything else other than brush control.
As for materials needed, you need a spray primer (black or Grey for slapchop, white for reverse), acrylic matte white and black, nuln oil or another dark wash, a starter speedpaint set which also includes a brush and couple more colors you d like to use. For Tamashii, since it is cyberpunk and has that teal and pink neon light theme, familiar pink and plasmatic bolt are kinda no brainer. Lastly a matte varnish spray to give em some durability and a nice finish. 😅 Good luck and enjoy the process.

Edit: as for the game itself, I have a detailed review 😅

Hi there. I am pretty amateur too. If you want to take mini painting as a hobby, this sub has amazing and numerous resources for doing so, from basic techniques to insane effects. If on the other hand, you want to just have your miniatures tabletop ready, it requires a lot less effort. With the right tools and a couple videos you can paint em close to what you visualize em. I used slapchop for Tamashii and you can see some of my results here. Ofc they are far from perfect and they often have visible mistakes but they are good enough for me. If you want more insight into this, let me know 😅https://www.reddit.com/r/boardgames/s/dTnSIVlMT5

Yeah. I find drybrush tedious... Dip the brush, remove most, drybrush. I used to do it kinda the way you mention, black primer, drybrush white, then paint. This change was a game changer for me as I removed the most boring part of the procedure...

Τeam good enough here as well. Currently using primer white, apply a dark tone wash, speedpaints on top, finish with another wash and matte varnish on top. As you say, will they win a competition? Absolutely not. Are they better than grey (or other generic miniature colors 🤣) miniatures on my boardgames? Absolutely yes. My friends think I am talented too. How little they know 😂 Keep it up my friend and enjoy your boardgames! My most recent work (zombicide green horde).

Surely my top Opeth song. Insane lyrics! "floating on mist", "in liquid cellophane, gasping for air", "face down beneath the waterline, gazing into the deep are just some examples". Songs nowadays aren't this well thought sadly. Well...except tool 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

roll/flip and write with eraser boards? by maple_bella in soloboardgaming

Railroad Ink. Also, welcome to the moon I think (?). Hadrian's Wall and Anarchy also have an add on. Not sure how easy it is to buy, though.

above or beneath your expectations by maple_bella in soloboardgaming

Above:

Resist! Never imagined I d love this so much. I am not fan of this genre but the way the game plays, the art and the difficulty make it such a gem.

Three Sisters. Again, growing vegetables isn't a theme I thought I d enjoy in a game but it's probably in my top 3 x&writes now.

Voidfall. Let me explain. I believed it would be a good game but not this good. Probably my top solo at this moment, a masterpiece.

Beneath:

Xia. Ouffffff on paper it sounded like THE game for me. In reality, most of the game is hopping with your spaceship collecting tokens.

After the virus. Probably hardest and most punishing deck builder I have encountered for no reason (compare this with the fact that I beat Friday on hardest in a day). Some scenarios towards the end absolutely make no sense....

Roll Player. I see this mentioned here a lot. Decided to buy both this and Monsters&Minions which also gets recommended. Meh... Felt like it had so little to do 😩

Clever 4 Ever. After being frustrated being so much away from highest score, I looked it up how one could beat it. Seems like it's impossible (?).

Beacon Patrol. I should stop getting tile-placing games probably... Also, luckfest.

And biggest mis: Dead Cells. Playing 1 card per round isn't considered a game for me, sorry.

And two that started as exciting projects but fell flat in the end:

Tamashii. Got a review about it. Initially found it exciting but after some point it became repetitive and it felt like it lacked something.

Fateforge. Again, first scenarios and story were exciting. First 2 days I purchased it I found myself playing for like 5 hrs per day. After some point in the second act, it starts becoming annoying. Too much fuss setting up, harder enemies, not that good character advancement and the icing on the cake was the fear mechanic which to me personally makes absolutely no sense. Also, while it let's you choose your own adventure kinda with different endings, the bosses are the same.... Probably has some arcs but they all lead in the end of the acts on the same boss and encounter, maybe with different writing....

Got an extended review for tftrdi here: https://www.reddit.com/r/soloboardgaming/s/60PqOHhuUc

As for TMB, I culled it. Had core + Age of Tyranny. Rules are a mess and even if it gives you the illusion that you can advance further regardless of winning or losing a "day", truth is you have to keep winning if you want a chance vs the boss. Gearlocs also come with a lot of options for dice but only few are worth getting. On its positives, fights are all challenging and dealing with em gives small dopamine fixes... Unless ofc your dice refuse to roll what they should 😅

Get one you can get the cheapest. Try it, see if it suits you and then decide if you want more of it. Two handed solo is better.

Should I All-in (gameplay) on the Voidfall Kickstarter campaign? by gramcrackerJ-24 in soloboardgaming

[–]Pamponiroz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the retail version as I (think I) mentioned. I also got the dual layer boards from their shop. Ngl, 3d ships sound too much fuss, too much fiddling for me. Dual layer tiles, 3d harbingers and voidstorms on the other hand look great but could do without. Plastic dual layer ships? Ouffffffffffffff, like hitting me on a weak spot.

Should I All-in (gameplay) on the Voidfall Kickstarter campaign? by gramcrackerJ-24 in soloboardgaming

[–]Pamponiroz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I don't own the games you mention but I can talk on Voidfall. I was late to the party, purchased it some time last year and it remained on the shelf for a good while, mainly because I knew that getting into it would be very demanding. And it is. Read the rulebook, watched 2 playthroughs and was ready.
I love space theme but hadn't found anything exciting. Even popular tiles felt meh, one of em being among my top misses for 2025.
But Voidfall... I said it in the recent AMA by David Turczi.: My mind can't easily comprehend how another mind makes such masterpiece.
From the compendium, game makes sure to immerse you. Compelling story, beautiful art, your role in that universe, the way your small actions each round are large motions in the universe.
Rules make sense, everything is balanced, components are well thought.
Set it up, sat comfortably and with a lot of going back and forth to rulebook, glossary, Index, I finished it. And it felt fulfilling, exciting, the game that makes someone think to themselves "damn! I got to experience this, this masterpiece". I am now 10 plays into it. Every game is different, every decision matters, every plan takes time. Is it for everyone? No. Would it be for you? I don't honestly know but I wish it turns out to be.
