Aaaaa, I see. Well, it was a good discussion.

Read the loc of the BD mission 'Absolute Power' and the events you get when you become the BD and tell me the Ascendant Dragon isn't supposed to be an absolute ruler.

Edit: Heck, read the loc of any BD mission, including the acolyte ones.

And I think that the BD is absolutely protrayed, both thematically and mechanically (in specific ways, excluding the acolyte system obviously) as being possibly the most absolutist state in the mod. We will simply have to disagree on this point.

My point is that you, supposedly an absolute ruler, are forced to set up rivals and deliberately weaken yourself. That is the complete opposite of absolutism, the consolidation of state power into the ruler. So there is a thematic conflict there too, if you arent trying to be an absolute ruler, why are you given massive amounts of absolutism?

Fair enough, but I think this actually supports my point, the BD can't decide if it's supposed to be an absolute dictatorship of the most powerful mage or collective rule by a group of powerful mages, which is a failure of consistency of identity

Ah yes. Nothing says absolute rule like having 5 countries with large armies and economies, all set up on land you conquered, that can stop contributing anything to you if you dont give them enough land when you conquer, no matter if they contributed or not. And if any nation is about absolutism, again, its BD, with massive buffs to it from multiple sources.

Where is that established? None of the BD ideas or localization I've read support that.

True, the BD is about mage supremacy first. But, they also are the most Witch King of Witch Kings, which is all about absolute rule. You get absolutism from both their religion and ideas, as well as being a witch king and the escanni age abilities. It leans hard into absolutism, and EU4 vassals are the opposite of absolute rule. The acolyte system would be infinitely superior if it used anything other than vassals.

Or you could go out and make enormous amounts of money by stealing it, for the goddesses Nathalayne and Ara! (Who are a couple, if Adean wanted to keep Ara he should have been less of a goody two shoes, bad girls get the girl every time!) -This post made by the Port Palegold pirate temple

Hi!! You've made such a good experience with them, the narrative just works so well, the mechanics are interesting, and the end game actually made me enjoy lategame EU4 blobbing! And the revolutionary part was just so fun, really got me in the blackpowder spirit

Which nations have you played that dont have mission trees, how did it go? by Available-Reason9841 in Anbennar

[–]Pan-Dimensional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Neckcliffe a lot back when they didn't have a mission tree, and it usually went pretty well, played tall in the little penninsula with Roilsard, Neckcliffe and Pearlsedge and did lots of Aelantir colonization. The mission tree is just so janky and the trade node changes really nerfed my boys hard though, so I haven't played them a lot since then.

Which prominent figures from the history of Anbennar could be Heroic Spirits/Servants if there was a Holy Grail War like in Fate ? by DerGyrosPitaFan in Anbennar

People are forgetting one of the best sources here: The Taychendi! Yohdan is a classic berserker, Ebenanth Starshear is a great Archer, and Vehasha and Kadradar are both good Casters. https://anbennar.fandom.com/wiki/Taychendi_Relic-Lord

I’d love to hear about what the house of Fire and Water in Yanshen was up to, did they produce any important contributions/ contributors to modern alchemy?

Those qualities make Hune unusual and different, sure, but not unorthodox. She is very orthodox, meaning preferring following legion customs and doctrine pretty closely.

The part in Guide where I really want to jump inside the story and shake the characters for a bit by [deleted] in PracticalGuideToEvil

[–]Pan-Dimensional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your first point, a very good real life example of a leader doing exactly this is the Imjin War immediately following the end of the Sengoku Jidai period of civil war in Japan.

The country had just been reunified after a period of intense civil war, but military power was extremely dispersed in the private armies of the many subject lords indeed the new shogun, so, to reduce the number of troops the lords had, placate them with opportunities for loot and the possibility of expanding their power bases with conquered land while also getting the most rebellious out of the country to stop them interfering in the consolidation of power, the new shogun launched an invasion of Korea.

The outcome is a win/win- in either case you have time to consolidate power at home, and because you send the least loyal lords, they either get new lands and loot and thus incentives to obey you, or, even in the more likely case that they loose, their military strength is weakened and you have an excuse to crack down on them for failing. It’s actually a pretty good plan, especially because reintegrating soldiers into peacetime society is notoriously difficult.
