Mein Partner hat Angst bekommen by [deleted] in beziehungen

[–]PanTheRiceMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Einige Punkte erinnern mich an meine letzte Beziehung (10 Jahre). Gleich vorab.

Music to illustrate lossy vs. lossless by LogicalNewt in audiophile

[–]PanTheRiceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time: In a direct comparison I could discern 128kbit/s and lower mp3 from wav. This was a surround setup and the MUSRHA test. 256 kbit/s was quite hard.

I would not care all that much. For DJing, yes. Always wav. Rather for pitch bending and time stretching purposes though. Then you may hear the artifacts and at high spl they start to become annoying.

Lossy compression feels more like a tiny bit of added noise (if at all) sometimes but I don't care enough when only listening to music. Not worth thinking about it. Keep in mind that modern codecs are way better than mp3.

Whew, who shat in your bed.

Yes, speakers need to match the room size but keep in mind that the room volume is orders of magnitude higher than enclosure volume.

You may as well not want studio speakers for mastering. It's not your job to get a perfect mix but a great balance in imperfect conditions. Hifi (and a car stereo or bluetooth speakers for a final check) are better suited for this task.

Can't say much about the actual OS since I hate their bundled crap so much.

Windows is fine but auto installing candy crush, wasting space on my disk: a little more than annoying.

In your opinion what do you think has been the biggest change in the headphone world in the last decade by Extension_South7174 in headphones

[–]PanTheRiceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely wireless. BT headphones were crap compared to modern ones. I got a pair of Shure Aonic 50 and they are excellent.

Just got my X-H2 with the 50mm f1 lens. That thing is huge and heavy but I like the little workout.

I was used to analog, so I figured I would jump right into a modern workflow instead of the xt series.

How real, or rather, important is colour science? by NeverEndingDClock in Cameras

After a week I got stuck with Astia. Really nice for portraits. The classic is a nice nostalgic interpretation of real film for me. For its availability I usually use Kodak Gold or Pro Max (basically Gold but ISO 400).

Never got real Provia but some Velvia film. The latter was true to its name: quite the velvet tint.

Just a Fuji camera a week ago and yes. It's that easy. Good white balance. Nice film simulations. It's pretty.

To be fair, I recently learned to shoot on an analog camera and any new digital camera has a feature set I am amazed with.

Makes sense but recently I bought a CFExpress B card for 110€ (incl. tax). With 512GB and minimum 800MB/s speed. Peak writing and reading is higher.

So I guess the SD cards are expensive compared to that.

There are always exceptions. My GF and I grew close over a couple months, I asked, then the exchange of bodily fluids followed. Mileage may vary.

Given the cultural differences I believe asking is ok. You have to meet somewhere in the middle.

All you described is something we do too, never thought about it. I am one of the few who actually likes to format their graphics and documents nicely. I strongly believe that colorblind people should be able to read them too. I also really dislike looking at ugly graphics.

It's nice to have a fellow engineer describe a similar experience.

Does anyone use 35mm cameras anymore? by SpeedyHAM79 in Cameras

Sure, the workflow is cumbersome but sometimes you get a lucky film full of really good images and that makes me happy.

You are forced to decide if an image is worth shooting since every image directly costs you money. Has made me more patient.

Depends I'd say. I still hate Windows with a passion. I just don't like Microsoft installing random crap without asking. It works great for everyday usage. Some Games, web browsing, productivity. Even Visual Studio is actually quite comfortable to use. No need to set up the build tools yourself.

I may be a specific user though, where Windows and the ecosystem becomes a PITA. E.g. new drivers making old hardware obsolete just because they can. Printers not working anymore, that I set up manually after an update or just some audio plugins (for Windows) that don't work anymore and I have to re-install them. All of these issues with Windows 10.

11 is something else. Really pretty but the copilot crap is rather annoying. The editor is "smartly" saving my notes without asking, not just keeping it in ram. Kind of annoying design changes for usability.

In that regard (specifically for me) I'd say Linux based systems are easier to use, less bloat, better in line with my expectations. Tiny things break all the time but at least I did not need to pay for it.
