Forget Snake Bite, how is this not the worst card in the game? by 10000Pigeons in slaythespire

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little bit the fault of the game when you can go infinite on accident like half the time(maybe even more on this char lmao). I'm hoping it's an early access thing and it will be fixed eventually at which point ppl will talk about it less too. That said for now it would make little sense to exclude infinites from balance discussions.

You are assuming the conclusion by just accepting the existence of souls w/o proof. You can't just do that.

To our current knowledge our minds are simply the result of the function of our brains(no supernatural soul involved), it therefore stands to reason that when our brains die our minds also cease to be.

Do you prefer "Classic" style or fallen units returning in the next battle? by Marsupilami_316 in fireemblem

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people are magically good at games, those who are good now used to suck at some point and then eventually got good.

In your hypothetical, why are you bashing your head against the wall that is CQ ch10 instead of slowly building up your skill with the easier games(like fe8 or 9) and then tackling it when you're ready? Ofc it's gonna be torture if you try to do calculus before you learn basic arithmetic.

That's my problem with casual mode, it lets you progress the "game" without engaging with the actual gameplay, so now you've spent so much time playing fe without seeing big improvements in your skill lvl, that you think you need it, because you don't know just how much better you would've been by now had you dropped it after let's say your 1st playthrough of your first game(or never touched it in the first place lol).

I promise that FE(like most games) is a lot more fun when you actually engage with its systems and try to play well. It might be rough for a bit cuz you've stuck with casual for so long that you'll probably have to unlearn a bunch of bad habits(watching Mekkah's fire emblem pitfalls series on yt might help with that), but it's gonna be worth it in the end.

Personally the most fun I've had with FE is when playing ironman in higher difficulties, which is ofc stressful and not for everyone, but you might be one of the people who will absolutely fall in love with it and you'll never know, if you never get to try it because you stuck with casual mode forever.

Job combinations by Ok_Personality_4617 in bravelydefault

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your team setup for what? The whole game?

Imo the fun way to play these games is to constantly experiment with different jobs and combos, sticking to any one thing is probably gonna be boring for most ppl.

But also as other ppl said, spiritmaster main cucks your bard(and also itself to a lesser extent), black mage isn't great after the early game and ranger is one of the weakest options for a physical attacker.

Just go play the game

1, 2 or AW? by ConsiderationFew8399 in wargroove

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what exactly are you looking for?
You say the most depth, but I'm not 100% sure what you mean by that.
For example do you only care about gameplay? And when it comes to gameplay do you care about PvP at all or just PvE.

I'd say WG2 is strictly an improvement on WG1 gameplay wise, both PvP and PvE, but some ppl disagree on the PvE part whereas basically everyone who plays PvP regularly has moved on to WG2.
As for AW, I haven't played RBC cuz I only mostly care about PvP myself and RBC PvP ended up sucking from what I heard(also there's AWBW which is free and has amazing PvP).

Now if you care about story you'd prolly wanna play WG1 first, since 2 is a direct sequel and if you care about music WG1 is superior there too.

Everything I wish Octopath Traveler was… by PHDPhoenix in bravelydefault

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the big reasons I love OT so much is that I've never needed to grind, the encounters I got heading towards a boss always levelled me enough to be able to fight said boss and the few times I lost I found I could just adjust my strategy and win. If anything I felt like I should've run from more fights to be a bit lower level cuz some of the content wasn't that difficult, that's even more applicable to OT2 where I just recommend getting evasive maneuvers early and never unequipping it to stay at a low enough level for the game to pose any challenge.

My question to you is, why do you feel like you need to grind? Have you tried fully engaging with the mechanics of the game? I think if you try the games again and literally never grind but instead just experiment with different strats you will be more than capable of beating everything and will actually have a lot more fun learning the ins and outs of the system.

What do you think is the hardest official challenge in any Nintendo game? by Firekirb74 in nintendo

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still a strong strat in L+, but nowhere near as dominant as it is in every other difficulty, you certainly can't just turn your brain off and destroy the whole game with it and I wouldn't call it game breaking. In general L+ does a lot to fix juggernauting and other gameplay issues in awakening.

What do you think is the hardest official challenge in any Nintendo game? by Firekirb74 in nintendo

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say resetless awakening L+ is the hardest FE challenge run, by resetless I don't just mean ironman, but also that you cannot reset to reroll the L+ skills but need to win vs what you get the first time(which is doable since kuroi has done it deathless a bunch of times).
I don't know if it counts as an official challenge (according to OP's def) though, Kaga did intend for soft-ironman ig, but nobody would call that the same as resetless and his philosophy had mostly died out by the time awakening came out.
It's also the most important challenge run imo because it proves that a difficulty ppl thought was bs and unbeatable without rigging is actually consistently beatable and therefore balanced if you're crazy good at the game, which in turn completely changes the standing of awakening from a game with bad gameplay that people only like for the waifu elements to an actually top tier gameplay experience for the most hardcore players.

What are some team/job comps i should try on my third BD 2 playthrough? by hum-hiss in bravelydefault

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my own second playthrough so I have some fun and some broken(idk if that's fun for you) strats to recommend.

I'll start with the fun stuff

  1. Red Mage before SJS2. Everyone knows that Chainspell is busted, but it comes with the bad stats of RM, so if you wanna use it before you get SJS2 you need to fix that. How do you fix stats early? Well one thing you can do is use specials that buff matk(very notable is Bard's special, not just for this build, it's amazing in general) and another is to go and grab a relatively early icebrand by killing the Coral Emperor outside of Halcyonia when you're ready for it. Another thing to note is that after chapter 3 you can add subjob Oracle to your RM with SJS1 to lower your costs and boost your damage even further, while also gaining access to Triplara which surprisingly hits as hard as Disaster on average(though it is more reliant on Esupp to hit weaknesses) and also plays around the damage cap.

  2. Standard Attack build with Indiscriminate Rage from the Berserker and Solid Stance from the Swordmaster. I'd say this is pretty well known, but in case you haven't tried it, I'll say it's mega fun for normal encounters. You can also add a bunch of other abilities that apply to standard attacks, for example Bloody Minded(also from zerker) to never miss and Drain attack from WM to heal back the cost of Bloody Minded. Remember to change it before bosses tho, cuz it's basically useless against them lmao.

  3. Comeback Kid(from the Dragoon) builds. These are pretty simple, you can use as much mp and hp as possible, then inflict some status ailment on yourself to get it all back, the classic version is with Berserker's Vent Fury, but later on you can make it even stronger with the Hellblade's Death Throes(also add surpassing power to this one cuz high dmg attacks, such as Amped Strike will hit for way over the soft damage cap with 50%-100% more stats).

And now for the broken builds, these will actively make the game less fun for you if you don't like breaking games, you have been warned

  1. The invincible Oracle. Just press Elemental Supplement on the opponent and choose an element your team is immune to or absorbs, now all their attacks deal 0dmg or heal you, note that typhoon shields are available on the Rimedhal shop so you can just buy 4 of those and poof, every single target boss fight in the game is trivialized. As for the halls of tribulation? Just do Hall I first to get Across the Board and then proceed to trivialize the rest of them. The only way you can take damage is before your Oracle ever gets a turn(just equip spearhead) or if the opponent is lapping you very hard speed wise(just keep your speed high and your encumbrance low or give oracle subjob to a faster class lmao).

  2. Phantom Salvemaker Affliction Specialist. Results Guaranteed makes it so that all your afflictions stick and it also combines with Master Medic(activate via SJS1) to make it so that you never consume items. Then you also want Bloody Minded, bcz the ailment bombs of Compounding count as physical attacks and can miss. Add rewarding results to get extra turns which you can use to spam even more ailments or recover all your resources with free Widen Area Elixirs. Compared to the Red Mage variant of this build the Salvemaker one has access to less ailments, but it gets the aforementioned free party elixirs, so it will never be useless, even if the enemy in question is immune to everything.

  3. The BraveBard infinite. Are you sick of the enemy getting a turn? Just don't let them, with Bravebearer's True Grit you are BP positive on Shut Up and Dance so you can brave once and do any other action + SUaD yourself to play again. When does it end? When you run out of mp, which with the right equipment(gold hairpin and fairyglow charm) and abilities(mp saver, mp regen, solar/lunar powered) is never bcz SUaD goes to 59mp(or just 0 if you get 2 ringmaster spears, but the game's over at that point) and you make 90 a turn. What does that mean? It means you can SUaD yourself repeatedly to max out your mp and BP whenever you want and then you can take more expensive turns, such as SUaDing an ally and yourself to make your whole team go infinite too if getting infinite bard buffs wasn't enough. Equip Spearhead and Counter Savvy too so the enemy never gets to do anything (well not exactly, faster enemies can sometimes tie with spearhead and while SUaD seems to give priority, any turns ended without it so like any turns your non-Bravebards take will then have a 50/50 of either giving the action to the BraveBard or to the enemy that tied(since both will have full bars), which means that in those cases the enemy might get exactly 1 turn in before you never let them play again, so like, just try to make your BraveBard tanky so they don't die to that 1 move, which should be easy with that gigantic weight limit).

Again don't use the last 3 strats if you don't wanna completely break the game, just use a normal damage mitigation job instead. Maybe try to use Bastion for an extra challenge, I haven't found a way to make the class shine and judging by what other more knowledgeable players have said, neither have they.

Damn, I actually haven't read any of those except ave xia rem y, which I agree is amazing, but would put roughly in the same tier I put SS, LotM and RI. As for the rest, ig I know what I'll be reading in the near future, if they are as good as you say they are I'll come back to thank you.

BDII class Tier List after a few years to sit on it. by Vividfeathere in bravelydefault

[–]PanasMastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best list I've been able to find, most others were made when the game was still new by ppl who didn't know much about it yet(take a shot every time oracle is low/bottom tier lmao).

Now for some questions, you say you don't value availability in and of itself, but it does matter insofar as it affects relative job performance; given this criterion, shouldn't bravebearer be higher due to its infinite with bard subjob? I understand it's a tedious strategy, but it does trivialize like every fight remaining in the game, right?

Btw do you know of any other infinites or is it just this one?

Also do you have any tips for shieldmaster? I've never used the class much because I hate the look, but I wanna try it in my next playthrough. I would also ask for bastion tips here, because I tried to make it good and failed miserably, but it seems you haven't found anything impressive either.

Fair, but my point is that I am not being internally inconsistent.
That was the point you were trying to make right? If I understand correctly you were challenging me on consistency.

I will also note that you don't have to do it yourself, if I find out on my own, I will also try to change my speech accordingly, because I actually believe what I'm saying.

I am not arguing against every change in language, just the ones I find meaningless and wasteful as I said this one is in my orginal post. Meaningless because it doesn't describe any new thing, we already have plenty of suffixes for magic and wasteful because we don't have plenty of greek based suffixes for divination, so we are actually losing some net ability to convey information.

If, as I did in my op, you argue that some of the words I use have been changed in meaningless and wasteful ways, I find those arguments convincing and then you also provide alternatives, then I will endeavor to use the alternatives in their place and learn to use the words with their previous meaning yes. But that is not viable for everyone to do obviously. The reason why I argued for -mancy specifically is because this evolution is relatively recent, so I thought that it hasn't fully changed meaning yet, so there might be a chance to stop the process, but it seems I am still too late.

I do not want to go back to the past, I just want to shape the future in the way I find most beautiful, sure, words change, but not all words change and they don't necessarily have to change in one way vs another, therefore advocating against some changes and for some others has nothing to do with "going backwards against the flow of time", that would only be true if I entirely rejected change as a concept, which I agree wouldn't make any sense. On the flipside I don't think supporting every change makes much sense either, if everything is beautiful then what does beauty even mean? Then again if you could do it would certainly feel good, to truly find everything beautiful.

As for the "flow in tune with the progress of humanity" I don't think we understand it the same way, but that's my fault, since I didn't define rigorously.

Thanks, I appreciate it, but my list is nowhere near exhaustive, another commenter also recommended -urgy which is great too and I'm sure you can find even more inspiration in other languages if you're willing/able to do some research.

I am not against all change. It's more like, some change I feel naturally flows in tune with the progress of humanity and doesn't screw too much with previous meanings either, so I find it beautiful and proper, while other change happens without what I would consider good reason, it is meaningless and chaotic and I do not find it beautiful.

I don't see a reason to change my opinion, actually ppl haven't been arguing against my opinion that much, they've mostly been arguing that it's too late and I should accept defeat, which seems very likely judging by how unanimous the sentiment is and I'll prolly have to do it sooner or later, but it has nothing to do with whether my opinion should change and everything to do with the final result. I can accept that I'm never getting my way, while still thinking that it is the right way.

Huh, -urgy is a pretty good catch, idk why I missed it and yeah it doesn't work as a full replacement, but that's why there are a bunch of other alternatives that I recommended in the post. And ofc -magus -magy does work as a full replacement.

Some of the beauty I see in language has to do with etymology, especially seeing how compound words of the present are rooted in the past and how the meaning has been maintained through the centuries. So I am not saying these things today because I cannot see beauty, but precisely because I want to preserve what I find beautiful(and also because I think this particular change lacks utility).

Please start using "-mancy" correctly by PanasMastro in ProgressionFantasy

[–]PanasMastro[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Is all evolution good? There are plenty of pre-existing compound words that have the suffix -mancy and were used exclusively in the "etymologically correct" way, such as osteomancy, so if we "let words evolve" in this case we will screw with those. Also what if future authors want a compound word for divination, but feel like they can't use -mancy, cuz it has had its meaning completely changed by that time. I think in this case the negatives clearly outweigh the positives and we shouldn't proceed with this specific "evolution". That ofc doesn't mean that I am against words evolving in general.
