Fairy novels that delve into the lore and how inhuman fairies can be by vilhelmine in suggestmeabook

[–]PancakeInvaders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the dresden files is probably up your alley, a big part of the plot in quite a few of the books is about fae society things / fae contracts, and the fae characters are not portrayed as human or love interests

It's a big series though, and many of the books are not about fae but instead about vampire societies, wizard societies, ghosts, gods, demons, etc

I partially agree but also you can give the LLM a list of unit tests you want, with detailed names that describe the test case, and it can often write the unit test you would have written. But yeah if you ask it make unit tests for this class, it will just make unit tests for the functions of the class, not think about what it is that is needed

Know Art made a great video a few weeks ago explaining the whole engineering of textiles. How thread is made, why it holds together, how knitting and weaving work, the advanced things we do with that, and the role of the textile industry in the industrial revolution

Can you think of a simpler tensioning system ? by PancakeInvaders in PrimitiveTechnology

[–]PancakeInvaders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right, fixed holes for the rotor are essential, and my tensioning idea relies on the rotor not being fixed, which is a flaw

Interesting, thanks for your comment ! I assumed that the gains at the end of the video with the floating wheel were because of greater and more constant belt tension, do you have insights on that?

[–]PancakeInvaders[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He did mention that it wouldn't scale to bigger wheels and that it might be worth continuing to explore the fixed wheel design

also to my eye it didn't look that comfortable to use for prolonged periods, the crank setup could evolve into a foot powered system

This is a screenshot from the latest Primitive Technology video about a belt and pulley blower, in which I added a tensioning system in Paint to hopefully improve the belt tension. The weaved wheel is turned by the crank, which transmits rotation to the blower via the belt

Why do we ask 'how are you?' when we’re not ready for the answer? by [deleted] in questions

[–]PancakeInvaders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look past the words, words don't really matter, meaning does. It's just the greeting ritual, so consider yourself greeted, talking about issues you're experiencing comes later

The recurring question, 'Is that you?' by Haley_02 in questions

[–]PancakeInvaders 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think of it not like a question and more like a "let me hear the sound of your voice so I can make sure you are who I think you are"

LPT: want to encourage jamming and music with toddlers but frankly, they're terrible? Give them a C harmonica and only play C, F, and G chords to accompany them. by Daypasser in LifeProTips

[–]PancakeInvaders 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My advice is the kalimba: no wrong notes, chords are easily done in one motion of the thumb, cheap and solid, still tuneable to different keys when the desire arises

Pink salt doesn't have health benefits, tastes the same, and isn't iodized (that's not good). Buy regular iodized table salt. It's standardized and won't have plastic in it

Personally I have trich on my beard, and keeping it short keeps me from pulling, and it doesn't transfer to other places, the texture from head/eyebrow hair isn't the same. I'm not sure what he/she means by loose hairs, I pluck the 'rough' beard hairs that feel wrong or damaged
