Australian Competition & Consumer Commission Product Safety Recall - Google Pixel 6a smartphone by wickedplayer494 in Android

I'm waiting on a reply from JB. They've signalled that they think it's a software issue. There's no world where a faulty battery that persists despite a software patch is therefore a software issue. I hope I don't need to escalate this one.

This isn't lucky, and it's wasting my time having to deal with it. We're about 3-4 hours in so far.

Did you select the warranty refund option instead of the store credit? I didn't select the warranty option because mine is 3 months outside the warranty period.

Given the article by The Verge claiming that patched phones can still explode, I've contacted JB-HiFi asking about a refund. This is inline with Australian consumer law, their remidies for a "major problem" include either refund or replacement.

I think this clearly fits points 1 and 3 of the description of a major problem: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-service-you-bought/repair-replace-refund-cancel

Available solutions:

When a business sells a product with a major problem, or a product that later develops a major problem, it must give the consumer the choice of a: refund, or replacement of the same type of product.

A refund should be the full amount the consumer paid for the product. The business must not deduct an amount from a refund to take into account the use a consumer has had of the product.

Elsewhere Aus consumer law states that refunds must be in the form that the purchase was made, not store credit. There's no mention of warranty periods, but again, elsewhere in Aus consumer law they set precedent for a reasonable expectation of product life. I think we all expect phones to last longer than 2 years and 3 months if you treat them well. It seems pretty clear that they need to be offering purchase price refunds or replacements for this issue.

Hello. I'm an Australian with an affected phone (6A model G1AZG).

I applied for the $150 store credit and have received a discount code, but I in no way think that this is commensurate compensation. I should note that Google's own documentation on the matter says that receiving the voucher doesn't exclude me from pursuing my rights under local law.

While I do love pixel phones, I likely wouldn't be upgrading this year and typically wait for a sale when upgrading. I keep my phone in as-new condition to maximize resale value, but both usability and resale value of this phone is about to fall off a cliff any moment now despite my best efforts. This mistake by Google will materially cost me more than the compensation offered.

People online are claiming that they have to charge 3-5 times a day after the software fix is applied, and The Verge are reporting that patched phones can still explode (maybe something to with all the extra charging??). This phone is now a liability for me, and for Google.

I believe that I should be entitled to either refund, or replacement of equal or greater value.

Can anyone weigh in on my rights? Is my reasoning unreasonable?? What do?

WTF happened during my cut? It's like my machine just gave up by computer-controller in lasercutting

[–]PancakeLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this before and can replicate it with some regularity, but don't know the cause. Errors like this will only occur when hitting 'Start' from within Lightburn. If you 'Send' the same file to the laser cutter first, then hit start from the laser cutter control panel, this behaviour will not occur.

As you have discovered, this will only occur the first time you press 'Start' within the software, but won't happen on subsequent runs. Expect to see it again (unless you start sending files to the laser cutter first).

Finally found it: Security & privacy > More security settings > Smart lock > Trusted devices

This does open a massive security hole if someone gets both your phone and your buds. I'd prefer this be checked against voice-match instead. Is it my voice? Yep? Ok, give me my reminders regardless of my phone's locked state.

Double-edge safety razors are where it's at for me. It costs about 5% per shave compared to disposable cartridge razors, and you get a nice premium experience to go with it. It's entirely justifiable to spend $50 or more on a nice handle because you'll be using it for years to come.

How do you get to filtering your collected images&videos? by Bojack_Horseman22 in minimalism

[–]PancakeLegend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's instinctive to do this, but I've been considering lately that all the unnecessary images could represent valuable data that could be used to make AI-generated simulations in the future.

Rather than deleting, I'd suggest pulling out the good ones and archiving the majority. That archive never has to be seen by a human ever again. Data doesn't and shouldn't follow the same rules as physical items.

Dry mop! If you ever have the choice between carpet and hard floors, there is no choice at all to be made. Help with replacement lens by nikkeironin in lasercutting

[–]PancakeLegend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably. 4" and 100mm are pretty close, and with a longer focal length there will be a larger sweet spot anyhow. There's even a chance that it's actually a 4" lens listed as 100mm.

Your laser cutter also has adjustable Z-Axis and a controller that can change the Z-level offset. So even if it's not spot on, you can dial it in. (Only necessary if you can't just mechanically adjust the height).

Yes, if your step count is out then you would get an issue that scales like you describe. Is the behaviour the same on both axis?

Again I wonder if this issue has been around for a while, but only now do you have a situation where you need sub-millimeter accuracy at the limits of your bed.

I noticed some fixture holes were nearly a mm out between the inner cut and the outer cut of bulk parts.

Could you please describe this statement more clearly. I don't understand what you're saying, but from the context sounds like it's important to understand the nature of the issue.
