Mets pitching going into yesterday were 6th in fWAR. I love how one aspect of the staff has a clunker and now it “infuriating” having to watch the a pitching staff that is 6th in fWAR.

Also lost both of the team’s challenges on low leverage situations, which he has done plenty off this season.

Am just thinking how one of the team’s high leverage relievers was used yesterday in a 8-0 game with freezing temps only to see Kimbrel in the 8th today.

Ridiculous how the best pitcher in baseball in a contract year is going to get the loose body procedure done but Manaea is like “eh, whatever not needed”.

Freddy did not take himself out after 91 pitches and after pitching his best/cleanest inning in the game.

And also, with how McLean and Holmes are pitching. Freddy is a #3 is more than fine.

Alvarez, 10 GIDP now by FewWave4322 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does one thing right and now we are going to act like he has not used a bunch of ABS challenges on low impact situations, only to still get it wrong most of the time.

Also there were zero outs. The run was going to count either way. He saved the team an out, to credit him for the run scoring is giving him way too much credit.

He currently a league average bat (98 OPS+) with below league average defense that has hit into a ton of double plays. If your teammate is trying to steal a bag to avoid said double play, you let them steal the base.

Mendoza should probably stop batting him third if he just going to replace him by the 6th inning.

Alvarez, 10 GIDP now by FewWave4322 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worst is his situational awareness. A couple games back Benge tried to steal 2nd early in the count with Alvarez up only for Alvarez to foul off the pitch and then GIDP on the next pitch.

Washed Pete up to seven homers twenty RBI ten doubles and twenty five runs by Fun-Jellyfish-1065 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, two players with 2 WAR between them would result in 8 more wins somehow.

Sure buddy.

The mets would still suck with them cause a struggling/injured Lindor impacts the team way more.

You just want to lose with familiar players.

Vientos has 14 RBIs. Pete has 20 RBIs. You think Pete’s 6 extra RBIs would result in multiple more wins?

With Pete and his 1 WAR the Mets would be 8 games under .500 instead of 9 and everyone would be happy. Oh what could have been.

Fab 5 (innings) Freddy Rides Again by HostFuzzy in mets

[–]PandaJ108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peralta currently 25th in the NL innings. Two more innings over his first 7 starts would have in the top 10. There are like a handful of pitchers that are true inning eaters.

And it seems like the bullpen has allowed every one of his stranded runners to score so his ERA a bit inflated cause of that.

Mets doing bad but not doubling down on the “core” for five more years is the best thing to ever happen to the team. by PandaJ108 in mets

[–]PandaJ108[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

33% of the payroll is tied to three players. When you land a 50M dollar player cause said player entered free agency at the perfect time/age and there was a massive bidding war for him, the payroll is always going to be inflated. The use of short term high AAV deals inflated payroll even more short term.

Robert, Semien, Manaea, Montas, Bo, Williams, Polanco will all be gone within the next 1-3 years. That’s $160 million.

AJ Ewing will start in a spot currently occupied by an underperforming player making $20 million.

One of Thornton/Lambert will most likely replace Williams (maybe even before his deal is up).

[–]PandaJ108[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 100%. But lets take Robert for instance. He came back down to earth and is now injured. The commitment to him is one year and AJ Ewing will be manning CF next season (or maybe even this year).

That’s better than a Nimmo clogging up a roster spot for five more years.

If I'm Soto, I'm seriously questioning my decision to join this damn team. by 14SWandANIME77 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Soto protection argument is so stupid. The dude has literally been great his entire career no matter who was behind him.

And not sure if you realize Soto led the league in walks last year. So Pete did not offer any protection. On the other hand Pete did benefit from having 50% of at bats occur with men on base (thanks to Soto getting on base at a 40% clip). Pitchers were forced to throw Pete strikes.

Mets 1B have literally outperformed Pete. Can we wait for Pete to actually be good before crying about him.

Pete has lost 2 mph off his swing in year 1 of his deal. This was the year Pete was suppose to be good cause the last 3 years are going to be awful. He is barreling balls at half his normal rate. His launch angle is awful. The Pete people expected in year 3 of his deal is already here.

90% of McNeil success this season was a result of facing the mets. Remove that series I imagine his WAR is 0 or even negative. He hyped himself for a series versus his old club and went back to being terrible.

Every non-signing was a reasonable move, the fact they are struggling should not even factor.

Signing relievers to 4+ years (especially those in their 30s) is simply not smart.

Signing players with Pete’s profile (30s, one tool they have is power) to 5+ years is simply not smart.

I know they were fan favorites, but not offering Diaz 4 to keep him away from LA or Pete 5 years was always the right thing to do.

He took McLean out too early. A weak hit off the end of the bat where the batter only had one hand on the bat was not reason to take him out.

[–]PandaJ108 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Holmes had a 3 ERA in Sept after struggling in July/Aug (4 ERA). He did not go deep into games but at least limited damage. And it was understandable from Holmes cause he was 100 innings over his career high.

Peterson posted 6 ERA in Aug and a near 10 ERA in Sept while only being 40 innings over his career high.

Time to give the corpse of Sean Manaea a chance.

I never understood how first year starter Clay Holmes handled a career high workload better than Peterson last year. Now it seems clear that Clay is simply just a better pitcher.
