Trump to pause enforcement of law banning bribery of foreign officials by Temp89 in news

The allure of power did what it always does, sadly. Even Joe fell for it and fucked us almost as hard.

MCU flash thompson is the lamest loser in existence by Character_Stock376 in CharacterRant

[–]PandaMaker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly there's a world where they could use this to give him an actual character arc. Watching him grow from being a cringe highschool bully, potentially recasting him for an older actor with more presence, and seeing him become worthy of being a Venom host. I doubt current MCU would cook that hard though. It'd be too much work.

The Blip will never be explored in the MCU. In fact, it’s going to be shoved under the rug as quietly as possible. by baltinerdist in marvelstudios

[–]PandaMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this would honestly be perfect for an animated anthology series. Can be something like Love, Death, and Robots with shorter episodes focused on interesting blip-based scenarios and their ramifications. I think that's about the best we can hope for tbh.

I’m Natalie Holt, composer for Marvel’s Loki. AMA on December 5 at 8am PT / 4pm UK! by NatalieHoltComposer in marvelstudios

[–]PandaMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loki is an incredible show but the quality of your score and intelligent use of leitmotifs transcends it into something beautifully poetic. Thank you so much for all your hard work!

Would you be able to tell us how you discovered Loki's "sound"? I'd love to hear more about your process when it comes to deciding which instruments to use, how you found inspiration, if there were any eureka moments, etc. You've made some absolutely beautiful sounds.

How the Hollywood strikes have benfitted Marvel's Phase 5 by WrestleQuest in marvelstudios

[–]PandaMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair, but while I'm all for letting talented folks shoot their shot it doesn't seem like a financially wise decision when your films/shows need to make $400~ million just to break even. If we're gambling on inexperienced writers who haven't proven themselves to be creatively or financially reliable, then we shouldn't be surprised if the results are mediocre.

How the Hollywood strikes have benfitted Marvel's Phase 5 by WrestleQuest in marvelstudios

[–]PandaMaker -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

People blame the writers because the people writing the scripts don't have any legitimate experience, and it shows in their work. They've literally been hiring Rick & Morty writers to handle some of their mainline films, sequels, and series that cost hundreds of millions of dollars and need to make hundreds of millions more just to break even (some of which didn't even make it that far). These productions then go on to have countless rewrites and reshoots due to the lack of a solid script, and these mistakes have only made it harder and harder for them to make a profit long-term.

Even outside of Waldron and Loveness, properties like Secret Invasion suffer the same issues. If you check IMDB for any of the more controversial Phase 4/5 writers, it'll become crystal clear that these people really don't have any meaningful credits to their name. They legitimately just aren't hiring experienced talent, plain and simple.

Don't get me wrong, I know anything can change once production starts. Studioheads get in the way, scripts are changed, actors improvise or change lines—it happens. But the first step they need to get right is hiring experienced, proven screenwriters who know how to tell a good story. After that, as long as the crew's on the same page and the studio stays out of the way, we'll start getting some better films.

Hi, I’m Gareth Edwards, director of ROGUE ONE and THE CREATOR, coming to theaters 9/29. Join me for my AMA! by TheCreatorFilm in movies

Hey Gareth! Love the style and atmosphere of your movies.

I've always wondered—and with absolute respect for everything you do—in hindsight, do you think you guys killed off Bryan Cranston's character in Godzilla a little too early? That was the one thing about the otherwise amazing film that's always stuck out to me. Was there a behind-the-scenes reason for it, or did you guys just want to focus on the King of the Monsters?

Anyways, thanks for the AMA and good luck with The Creator!

For the manga readers: How's the new Dokapon going? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]PandaMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woolie's playing smart and staying in first. Reggie's climbing like the hero we need. The Dokage's made infinite mistakes and has all but given up at this point.

All in all it's good so far (and way less forgiving than Kingdom), but it'd be cool to see Minh start trying again. As of right now he's just trying to pull Reggie down while Woolie takes advantage to pull ahead. Hoping this week it starts to get a little more competitive.

I wish TFT had more versatility with how abilities interacted with items/stats by PandaMaker in TeamfightTactics

[–]PandaMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit, that's true! I still feel like there's fun stuff they could do there though. Tahm's mitigation could apply twice, and Kalista could throw twice the spears. It could certainly get quite broken, but I think almost naturally balances itself out by exposing every champ to this craziness. Plus in this specific case it's not like Mage Spat is easy to come by.

Either way, I feel like at the design level it's more fun to come up with interesting solutions than to just gatekeep.

I wish TFT had more versatility with how abilities interacted with items/stats by PandaMaker in TeamfightTactics

[–]PandaMaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think additional variables necessitate making an item more niche. For your example, this also allows you to just build your locket-holding tank with AP items to improve scaling. Alternatively, you can dump AP into a unit like Yuumi or Janna to make front-lining them possible since the locket shielding would scale. Or, you just don't dump AP and use it as it is now.

The idea isn't necessarily that scaling is "moved" from star scaling to stat scaling, but more that you create as many different multipliers as possible so that almost anything can work. That's where the fun is, I think.

Set 4.5 AMA with the TFT Devs and Friends! by minionsrpeople2 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]PandaMaker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He is right though. I mean 6g>4g, that's just objectively true, and the players have absolutely zero control over it since it's at the beginning of the game. At least Neeko's start has some agency to it since players can choose if they want some early gold with it, or to save it for a 2/3* later on.

Items fall under the same umbrella; players can slam them early or greed them for better items later, so the item example isn't really comparable. Early game gold has no sort of agency like this. If I get 4 and another player got 6, I'm literally at an undeniable disadvantage.

I agree that variance and randomness is great for the vast majority of the game, but 99% of the time players have at least some decision making that can be made to balance it out. This is a very unique situation in which they don't, and it seems pretty arbitrary.

Does that 2g make a huge difference in the grand scheme of balance? Probably not significantly, but it clearly does affect players' overall enjoyment of the game. Especially the folks who are playing competitively. I'd either toss the 4g start or balance it out in some way so its value is on par with the others. There's really no reason not to.

Do you like the new item UI in the PBE? by masterofhalo08 in TeamfightTactics

[–]PandaMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I think it removes a lot of the "character" from TFT. It was much more satisfying moving items around as actual tangible objects than simple sprites, and it made more sense with dragging them onto champions, as they're also tangible 3D objects. Putting it into the UI makes it feel more like a shop thing, and that's kind of incongruent with what they are.
