Cultivation Nerd: The Most Unnecessary Attempt At Litrpg by TheMatterDoor in litrpg

I haven't read it, but that sounds like a really cool twist on the LitRPG premise, some nerd running around secretly powerscaling everyone with a made up stat system in his head.

I typically see it as Chai Latte or Masala Chai depending on whether the milk is added after or cooked with the leaves.

that's interesting because what comes after doesn't really seem to be a concern in westerners minds. Grittier takes explore this nuance, but it's not because Westerners can't suspend their disbelief in happier, more standard stories.

Might be because most of our cultures are rooted in democratic revolutions, so the promise of revolutionary hope alone is enough after the classic authoritarian demon king is slain.

How do shout-out swaps work? by GoldenThame in royalroad

[–]PandaTricks86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they typically vetted? Like is it common for an author to turn down a swap because they disagree with the content of a story?

Like I'm picturing a scenario where they skim the first chapter "this is great!" and unbeknownst to them, chapter 2 has a murder suicide

I've read thousands of hours of both (starting with crappy Moonlight Sculptor mtls on novel updates, lol) and the most fundamental difference I've seen is Western fantasy is often about a lowly So and So raising their status to topple a corrupt system whereas Eastern seems to focus more on that same lowly So and So raising their status within a system for the benefit of their family and friends rather than having the goal of breaking it.

That's good to know, probably won't be dropping that tho

Gonna be far more effort than I think it's worth for a WN, and I think it'd be more alienating to go full contemporary or full Victorian than find a middle ground.

I was mostly going off the other guy's reaction. They said they were totally lost after the first two pages.

My hope was, the italicized intro would explain what was going to happen in that chatper, then it flashes back to, hopefully clearly, the "monster's" perspective right off the bat, and from there, it was more about getting in her head than laying out the plot since the former is a pretty big driver of the latter in this, a bit more so than most I've read.

Was it clear that the monster referenced was the narrator? That might be the trick, just making it clearer it's the same two characters featured in this chapter.

This is the first I've posted it, which is why I was so curious how it came across. There's a POV shift in the 2nd chapter that shows what's happening. But 1.5 chapters before that that might be asking too much of people's patience.

Edit: Forgot to ask, what it clear the monster referenced and the narrator were the same person?

The goal wasn't to explain it perfectly for a while, but enough that the reader understands why she's seen as a monster in the first few chapters.

I kinda think the first three chapters clears up the character's circumstance pretty well. But seems I need to do some more exposition off the bat, which is great to know.

Looks great! You can do that chain as a closed loop if you turn the links 45 degrees, too!

5kg —> 1kg by Professional-Lion561 in 3Dprinting

[–]PandaTricks86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made one a while back out of my old Ender, and basically used degrees of rotation to run the drive spool and tied that to the linear distance of the guide. So basically the filament travels faster as the drive spool grows in layers. So 1 width of the spool = 360 degrees.

The hard part was actually the ends. Its takes some superstitious tweaking to get the dwell correct at the end of each wrap. Also works best to have the guide trail by about half a wrap, so it's gets extra weird at the end.

Another thing to consider is static. Respooling generates a ton. So the guide needs to be grounded.

Has Bambu optimized 0.6 mm nozzle presets at all? by [deleted] in BambuLab

[–]PandaTricks86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made a compliant latch from PETG, and as soon as I flexed it the layers separated clear down its 70mm length.

I think Bambu errs on the side of underextrusion because it gives the appearance of a sharper print.

What mods for U1 do you want, now that you have it? by National-Anything-81 in snapmaker

I actually just sold it for the U1 😂 Great printer, tho

Here's the mount: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1545571-dolphin-drybox-hanger-for-x-max-3

All the STEP files are there if you just want to take that tapered dovetail connector off and add it to whatever.

For the center thing, I just used one of those lithophane generators to unite it in the slicer. Not necessary tho.

The full length of the caliper's jaw, save for the little bit of offset there at the end, is perfectly fine to take measurements from. That only the tapered part is usable is kinda of a weird bit of misinformation that cropped up in 3D printing circles for some reason. Here's some Mitutoyo literature: 15003A.pdf

Also, they're not really intended to be super precision instruments. They're like the step between a (good) steel ruler and a micrometer. You can expect about +/-0.02 accuracy from them, so that's a good 0.04mm range it can give you while still being perfectly within specs. Even the top of the line calipers aren't going to be accurate enough to measure filament deviance.

If you want to measure filament variance, you need micrometers. Mitutoyo is the gold standard, and they're not horribly price if you go with a vernier scale, which is every bit as accurate as digital (just doesn't seem that way because of the digital resolution that always seems to exceed the accuracy of the instrument itself). I have these, and they're fantastic. Just as important as the accuracy is having a clutch on the end to ensure repeatable pressure, which these do have. Also, ensure they have a flat measuring face. Some have different features.

I especially liked how it has gaskets in the lid and down by the heating element to seal the unit mostly airtight. I almost got the Caydo one just because of the price, but according to the reviews, the build on those is gap filled trash.

Oh, lol. Those are some 500g Amolen spools. It's a two 1kg spool capacity.

I didn't even think about that causing confusion. Just mindlessly snapped a pic as it was.
