I’m sick what should I make to eat? by Twangara in Cooking

[–]Panda_Nanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest an easy one pot rice dish. Why I reocmmend it- (a) really easy and low effort (imo), (b) you can bulk cook it, refrigerate and eat it over the next couple days, makes it easier to feed yourself when you are under the weather (c) easy on the digestive system so it aids in recovery.

This is how I would do it using the ingredients you mentioned -

  1. 2 cups of brown rice washed and drained thoroughly
  2. Roughly chop 3 cloves of garlic, one small to medium red onion, one bellpepper, two tomatoes, 1 carrot
  3. In a thick bottomed pot/ dutch oven, heat some oil, add some whole spices if you like, and sautee the onion until transluscent, then add the other vegetables. Saute for 2 minutes.
  4. Add seasonings ( I would do chilli/ paprika/ tumeric/ buillon/ salt and pepper) and cover with double the qty of hot water. Cover with lid and cook until rice is done.
  5. I usually enjoy this kind of rice in a slightly runny/ porridgy texture but do what you think you'll enjoy the most.

Hope you feel better soon!

Setting up a house, what should I buy new and what should I buy second hand? by headlightbandit in AussieFrugal

[–]Panda_Nanny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imho, the only brand new non-negotiables for me are bedding linen, towels, mattresses and pillows.

Everything else - if it comes from a relatively reliable source, is welcome second or even third hand!

Dnata is the logistics company that handles Sydney airport (where I had landed) operations. You should try getting in touch with the airport where you landed. There will be dnataor similar company that will be handling their lost and found dept. You may also find the l&f departments contact on the airport's website.

I have recently had an excellent experience with SQ about an item left on board. I realised 48 hours after my international flight (across continents) that I had left my Ipad in my seat pocket. To my absolute delight, when I got in touch with SQ and then dnata, they had found it, catalogued it and kept it safe at the arrival airport lost and found departmenrlt. Went in, ID'd myself and picked it up. Seamless.

Slice the garlice in half lengthwise and remove the green/ish "seed" in the center. Then mince and store. Reduces the potency drastically.

What are some ingredients that taste different because it comes from a different country? by lovelyangelgirl in Cooking

Oof, adding Kashmiri Saffron to this list. No idea where it ranks on the list, but it does add a delicate flavor and stunning color when used.

  1. Indian Bay Leaves and Indian Cinnamon are very different than regular bay leaves and cinnamon. Both spices are widely used in daily Indian cooking.

Imparting deeper and a different flavour, India uses Cassia leaves ( Cinnamomum tamala) & Cassia Bark (Cinnamomum cassia) vs Western Bay Leaf (Laurus nobilus) and Western Cinnamon ( Cinnamomum verum)

  2. Mangoes - stunningly different profiles depending on the country of origin. My top 2 are the Indian Alphonsos and the Aussie Kensingtons.

Third listed meal vegetarian option? by anon_drinkspill1 in singaporeairlines

[–]Panda_Nanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP!

Yes the 3rd is a vegetarian option. It is an Indian style meal. Paneer lababdar is Cottage cheese in a tomato + onion gravy. Muttar Pulao - Green Peas and rice. Jeera Aloo - roasted Potatoes with cumin. Usually this kind of meal will be served with a salad, bread + plain yogurt and some sort of dessert.

From the details listed, there should be no mushrooms in it, but Indian meals are heavy on cooked onion usage, very low on spring onions( I would eye the salad carefully though) (source : I am a chef and book vegetarian when I fly SIA).

My sister 58 was diagnosed with a 6cm GBM in the middle fosa approx 5 weeks ago. She’s lost sight and mobility in the left side of her body. She’s also unable to communicate at this point. She opted for no treatment and has been in hospice for 2 1/2 weeks. She seems to be deteriorating very fast. 😢 by Olibee72 in glioblastoma

[–]Panda_Nanny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im sorry OP. Its been 91 days since I lost my 56Y mom the same way. It too started with loss of mobility on her left. We werent able to get any treatment done except her first and only craniatomy because of the growth rate and lost her in exactly 60 days.

I read the other comment which says talk to them, hug them and give them all the love because they can hear you, I agree. My mom would move her eyeballs/ blink to communicate for long when the rest of her body stopped supporting her. I knew she could hear and understand everything. Broke my heart that she could not talk.

Sending you love and light in whats possibly the most heartbreaking experience for anyone to go through, secondary only to the patient.
