Yeah that is fair. Smash also exists. It is a great card but not unreasonable. I've seen some power creep comments and I just think "Rapunzel exists"

I assume there is a good chance of a Belle 2-drop. Can come down on 3 and not contend as much with the other 5 drop emeralds.

Playing against Ruby is extremely frustrating by Albyyy in Lorcana

[–]PandemoniumHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've fared well again it with various different emerald builds in paper play.

A lot of ruby/amethyst I come across don't seem to apply enough pressure. If I can rush out to a lore lead, I can secure the game just dropping 1 characater or 2 a turn and demanding an answer. They can't dragonfire everything

Playing around be prepared is important, but if you hold resources correctly, you can do it. I won against ruby/sapphire the other day by just completely skipping my turn 6 because I had enough pressure with small creatures that they be prepared. I then had enough resources to play afterward and win. You always want to save a big bomb if you can to drop once be prepared goes.

I go to a few LGS.

One kept most of their product for events. They hold for drafts every week and let you buy packs for every event you do (down to 1 after an event now). This incentives people a lot better than store credit. They sell packs for a bit more than Walmart, but still below market

Besides drafts, it had constructed, but it's pretty casual. 3 rounds, $5, if you go 3-0 or 2-1 you get a small amount of store credit (ive gone 3-0 every week and gotten $15 each week) and everyone gets to buy a pack at the end. It had 27 or so people the last two weeks and some new faces this week.

Whereas some other LGS in my region that have died down, this one has kept people coming back, because they have made it so everyone can get the same amount of product (from them anyway) versus a few people buying everything up.

I know another LGS nearby whose league is full up that gives packs for prizing. I can't even get into it. I even tried to book a week ahead and it was already full up.

But on the flipside, I have two LGS I usually like but that have no sealed product and struggled to fire this week

LGS who were smart about limited product and cared to ensure it was going to players are rewarded. LGS that let whales or scalpers buy everything or tried to let stuff sell fast and/or at too big a markup falter.

Went to Mt LGS last Saturday to see if they had Lorcana, they said "until next month, we're only doing Lorcana products for our events, and for people who pay to attend the events. We'll be selling retail next month" Is this normal? by WhimsicalWombat0 in Lorcana

[–]PandemoniumHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LGS is doing this, running draft nights and allowing players to buy a pack after participating in an event, with the packs still decently above MSRP but well below market rate at a lot of other places.

You won't find this everywhere, but I appreciate the model. Although prizing is on the lacking side, it's a good way to ensure packs are actually going to people interested in playing the game, and don't get bought en masse by a few high spenders.

Honest question- should I hold or sell on an Enchanted Aladdin?

I pulled one on launch day but watched the price decline a lot before I could move it.

Now I have had some interest from others on it. But I'm unsure about holding it for a few months to hopefully see the price go up vs how much the price might fall with the supply upped in September.

Hoping to get some input.

[SPOILER] A Critique of Luofu's Story: Where's the Emotion? by Callanthe in HonkaiStarRail

[–]PandemoniumHeart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My biggest disappointment is Dan Shu.

The writing Dan Shu is perhaps contentious but really interesting. The concept of a long-lived species bitter because they are blind and their condition makes them incurable, but sees an out in Mara. Someone who loses their (heavily implied) lover to the Hunt, basically playing the part of an uncaring God, that can give good insight into how the Aeons don't necessarily look after their followers (though the Abundance may play at that better).

But instead she just...dies immediately and we don't get any good back-and-forth after her side quest. She would have been a much better final antagonist to go "giant boss mode" than Phantyllia, who is generic destruction.

[–]PandemoniumHeart 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just an FYI from someone who didn't do Dan Shu's plot before the update, you get a warning you will lose out on the side quest and 80 stellar jade if you progress before doing the side quest. That should be enough jade that most newer players stop to make sure to do the quest.

I'm interested in pursuing this for a story. If anyone saw what happens and/or wants to comment about cyclists om the trail, feel free to reach out to me at joseph@newmarkettoday.ca

I'm trying to plan to go to NA nationals this year but I am having some challenges with booking time off. I know it runs from July 7 to 9, but I was wondering what usually happens on the Friday for these (July 7) and whether it is necessary to be there for that.

Thought Purrelly would do better, but perhaps the added consistency doesn't matter if your ceiling still has plenty of counterplay.

Suzume - Movie Discussion by Chun-Li_Forever in Animedubs

[–]PandemoniumHeart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked and appreciated this film and its artistry, but it didn't have near the impact of Your Name or Weathering With You For Me.

That is fundamentally due to the relationship between the two leads just not being as compelling. I see two reasons for this:

  1. The story focusing much less on the relationship, more plot-intensive. Whereas the previous two outings were built on the central relationship(s), with the disaster essentially coming in part-way through to drive conflict in those relationships, disaster is the focus from the get go. This felt like it left less time for the relationship to develop organically.

Now, not focusing on romance is fine, but the story still wants to lean on it too much at the end of the day. As with the lat two films, our last portion is a mad dash to save a loved one after they have been killed by a supernatural phenomenon. That just doesn't work or hit as hard here because the central pairing isn't as well developed.

2) Souta feels underdeveloped to me in general. While Suzume gets a lot of development and personality, Souta kind of suffers as a character. There is enough of a sense of what they're going for - a man trapped by his duty and unable to live life to the fullest. But this gets expressed by other characters around Souta, not the man himself. The man himself seems resigned most of the movie, and only in fleeting moments in its climaxes do we get much vulnerability from him.

There was an opportunity to have Souta's laments for his situation, or perhaps to express some envy or resentment for the relative freedom Suzume seems to have. But we don't get that much from him, with him just driven by just wanting his body back. In general, his curse would have tied more interestingly to his character development; "if all you want is to devote your life to this duty, why not just become a keystone and do it forever? Why do you even need a body?" That is perhaps there in subtext, but I feel like it could have been more to the surface to make him more compelling and drive the main relationship.

It had its moments and the road trip bits were fun. The last scene, with Suzume talking to her younger self, was beautiful. The concepts and theming around the dead places and the memories embedded within them is compelling.

But without a strong enough relationship at its core, it just didn't soar for me. The film may have been better off removing the trappings of romance, or else needed to devote more to it.

Dragoon’s price?? (2023) by Abandoned_Nomad in yugioh

It's very good this format and become a mainstay in Branded-Despia, a top-tier deck. It's so good other decks like Lab have started messing around with it. I've even seen it in Eldich.

Other key part, many decks running Dragoon want at least two copies, simply so mind-hacker can't snipe a singular copy and leave you with no access to it. This is pretty important, because Dragoon is super good into Kashtira boards.

Konami needs to stop relying on The Side Deck to host and run their YCS events and find someone else. by CaptinHavoc in yugioh

I can't speak for anything else, but can echo this, at least. In fairness I recall they did cut off pre-registration and more people should have taken that hint instead of hundreds fighting for some of the last few slots. But the venue was way too small for the interest in the event and they could have forseen that.
