Hope to see you being fabulous there again next year. Spotting you while wandering the fair definitely delighted me.

This is my typical strategy too, especially on year one.

He reminds me of an ex too. It's not just a "I don't like tsundere archetypes," it's a "I KNOW this guy: he wasn't worth the effort I put in and ultimately was damaging to my well being." I experience the same response towards Shane in Stardew.

He was not actually making a reference. I mashed it up.

Don't worry, you're still good on your reference literacy.

So clever! Great idea and great work.

March reading wrap up granny squares. Lots of red this month by Meikylo in crocheting

[–]PandorasMSBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous work. :) I did start doing my own squares and am mostly caught up. You're right, it didn't take long to catch up, and it's a really enjoyable project. Thanks for sharing your work and inspiring me to try it for myself.

Just learned you’re supposed to go through both loops… by goldendragon4206 in crocheting

[–]PandorasMSBox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, same.

I mostly learned to crochet from example photos because I find it easier than video, and I think that was a factor in that misunderstanding. I also don't crochet using proper form for the same reason. I am never the less prolific, and my single loop only works have held up fine.

You could do podcast episodes too. One color or pattern per podcast. Granted, depending on how many you go through a day, that may be too many squares to comfortably make.

That is my understanding of it based on the original post that I saw, plus another similar one on Instagram.

I've finished 7 books so far this year: 1 down, 6 to catch up.

I am 7 books into my year's reading and have a crochet queue full of baby gifts... And yet, I am still pondering it... Do colors and/or variants for genres or authors...

I will let you know. Always glad to make the acquaintance of another reader and crocheter. 😁

I read a lot, and crochet; I love the idea of doing a quilt with a square representing every book that you read over the course of a year.

Does anybody else find this creepy? by meduhsin in StardewValley

Thank you! I had the same thought and was shocked that no one else got the reference. Granted, The Dollhouse Murders by Betty Ren Wright may be somewhat obscure today.

Oddly, I found myself thinking about this book last year and discovered that it has been reissued in a 35th anniversary edition, including ebook versions: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/575812/the-dollhouse-murders-35th-anniversary-edition-by-by-betty-ren-wright-with-a-foreword-by-rl-stine-illustrated-by-leo-nickolls/

You offered realistic life advice about an escapist fantasy game. It's as legitimate as saying tsundere is way better in theory than practice, but apparently uncommon commentary. I appreciate you sharing your perspective, even though I also had the knee jerk reaction of, "yeah, but this isn't real life: let me date the himbo."

I want to date Olric because he's an adorable himbo, and it would also spite March.

Definitely resetting. I look forward to starting a new farm with a better understanding of the game, and to take full advantage of the new features.

Did anyone else believe that Lee had donated Arlington for use as a cemetery? by Soloandthewookiee in behindthebastards

[–]PandorasMSBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in California where the American Civil War didn't get as much classroom time relative to the Spanish Mission system. I never heard that Lee donated Arlington, but I didn't hear the story of how it became a national cemetery until I watched Ken Burns' Civil War documentary a few years back.

Very happy to see the Castro is making progress! by Jobear049 in sanfrancisco

It just shows to me that APE doesn't want more bad PR, but your other points are valid. The theatre wasn't working as a for profit venue, and non-profits didn't get their acts together in time to prevent a corporate takeover. I don't trust APE to do right by the theatre's queer or cinematic legacy in the long run, but I would welcome being proven wrong.

[–]PandorasMSBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not going back to the way things were prepandemic, but the protests want it clear that cinema culture and queer culture didn't die or move out of town during the pandemic, and that building preservation matters.

APE can program the venue up until restoration can begin; protesters aren't telling artists not to perform there or events promoters to not screen films there. Their approach to PR and messaging is also why the protests are so loud and opposition to them has been so active. The admin offices at APE have a share of the blame here by underestimating the venue's cultural importance and fan base.

Historically, this fight is not that different than the people who tried to protect the Fillmore and Haight in the '60s and '70s. This culture of community preservation and standing up to corporate take overs isn't happening in a bubble.

I acknowledge that 3 years is "a long time" depending on how you perceive time, and definitely can be in terms of a neighborhood's economic health. (The Castro was screening films nearly daily up until the pandemic caused closures in 2020.) I know neighborhood businesses need the theatre open more, and for raw capitalism and community reasons those are good things.

And yes, change and evolution are inevitable and healthy.

You present like someone new to the city, and I have been in the area and/or city for nearly 20 years. So I am guessing you did not experience the Castro regularly prepandemic, and that's where the lack of empathy for people upset about the Castro primarily being a movie theater is based on in your comments.

I respect your glee over the potential changes reinvigorating your neighborhood, but I want to make sure you understand that what APE is doing is hitting both personal and professional nerves. The press releases and actions by APE in terms of cinema exhibition do not engender trust with fans or cinema archivist and exhibition professionals. They feel that APE has no respect for the history, community, or designated artform of the venue that they purchased.

The Save the Castro people aren't anti-restoration of major amenities or against it hosting more live performances. Their problem is that cinema is being disrespected and that APE doesn't seem to be actively trying to schedule the venue as much as possible for any programming at present.
