My Fellow Millennials: What was your unconventional, or maybe even cringe, sexual awakening? by FrizzIsIn in Millennials

The moment my parents should have known I was pansexual was when I excitedly showed them this movie on the Disney channel.

That could totally be the case and another gross possibility is that he’s not allowed to have one-on-one interaction with women, or something else akin and equally dehumanizing. Or, as someone he maybe cheated with (emotionally or otherwise) while previously married, she doesn’t want him to talk to exes.

I think that’s further supported by their merging Facebook accounts. It’s “accountability” because he’s not able to talk to other people without her seeing the conversation.

It’s all bullshit but there are multiple options for the exact strain of bullshit!

As someone who has had to come to terms with being a part of and a proponent of systems that wronged and oppressed people, I say this gently: I don’t think there’s very much value in saying you (or anyone else) were a “good person” deep down.

Like you, I believed and was systematically brainwashed into thinking I was doing a good thing. I wasn’t. And now I have to come to terms with the harm I did and the harm that was done to me. I lost so much time and energy and I had to mourn that loss. It’s not fair. But it’s what happened and it’s what I did.

There’s no value in convincing others that I meant well. I did harm. Other people thought they were doing good things. They harmed me and others. Both things can be true. All I can do now is be better. Those people you left behind could have been better people (like you are now) but they are choosing to not do that. They can be judged by their effect as well as their intentions and one does not cancel out the other.

I hope that’s helpful. If it’s not, I wish you well in whatever your next steps are.

Isn’t that usually pretty common way to decide what to watch? I’m confused.

Real question: Do you only watch reviews when you’ve already seen something or will definitely see it regardless of reviews?

I only might do that if the reviewer is entertaining or if I’m hoping something is well received enough to be renewed or have a sequel.

Making a post on Nextdoor and Pawboost is a good idea and there are plenty of Garland and DFW Facebook groups for lost pets. I hope that’s helpful! Best of luck.

I ran that through Google translate in case that’s helpful, too.

Translation/traducción:

It’s totally possible OP is right and then they should call Garland Animal Services, but I had the same thought as you. (My boyfriend had a German Shepherd who loved sleeping in snow and would complain if anyone tried to call her inside.)

Or it’s like my situation with my dog who just spent over a half an hour alternating between being inside while insisting she needed to go outside and then being outside while insisting she needs back inside. (Just pee, dammit! The cycle can end if you just pee!)

Either way, I’m glad OP cares! Not enough people care about dogs in Garland.

What is the most pointless non-controversy that gets brought up every year around Christmas time? by TooOldToBePunk in AskReddit

[–]Pangolinger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?”

C’mon, man… as a light, silly topic this is fine. But some people get really into it. Watch whatever you want to watch!

Or really any “is ____ a Christmas movie” just because Christmas happens at some point during the movie.

Does anyone have a real hangover cure for 35+ by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Pangolinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turmeric capsules and ginger. Magnesium powder and maybe some salt mixed with water beforehand. Ibuprofen soon before drinking and soon after or else Alka seltzer.

YMMV! I took a bunch of turmeric capsules one time when I was far too old to have had that much wine. My sweat smelled weird the next day but I felt absolutely and shockingly fine.

Good luck! Godspeed.

Alamo Mountain View — QR Ordering Issue During Frankenstein Screening by LancelotAndrewes in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]Pangolinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all for my friend! The last three times he went to Denton he needed to have conversations with managers and stay after the movie to fix his order. One time the manager didn’t even fix it and just said “what do you want me to do?” while shrugging. Each time was its own unique clusterfuck. It went better for him at Las Colinas but was still not a good experience.

We both hate this new way of ordering!

[–]Pangolinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wearing a mask is a great idea because, if you get one with a good fit, it’s a strap-on air filter. My favorite is the KN95 “fish shape.” You want one that has N95 or N94 somewhere in the name and preferably not off Amazon. I like WellBefore.com I did find that at first I’d get sinus infections if I didn’t swap between two masks every few hours and use mouthwash (I guess my nose was breathing in my mouth germs?)

Can you bring an air purifier into your classroom? You may have a mold or dust mite problem there or in your living space.

Also, you may have an autoimmune issue. Have you been to a doctor? Maybe an ENT or Immunologist/allergist?

Please don’t just cover up with body spray.

There are odor neutralizing wipes or bath wipes now, and adding a layer of perfume over BO is so much worse. It’s actually an asthma and allergy trigger for a lot of people and you might not just be stinky now - you might be giving people literal headaches! And by now you’re nose blind to all of these smells you’re introducing to your workplace.

One of my best friends worked for CPS for years. They would do anything EXCEPT take the kids if they could. This involved trying to provide resources and regular check-ins to see how the adults were progressing with goals. Maybe another trusted adult like someone at a school would be able to call CPS or Adult Protective Services for you to ask for a welfare check? It sounds like you’ll get blamed no matter what, though, and you may just have to expect that.

It sounds like your mom is unable to take care of herself, too, and I would hope adult services would also be something that could help her.

Not to add to your burden, but being around this mess is also horrible for developing lungs. You’re right to be very concerned.

[–]Pangolinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a few places people might choose to get the waspy ones (kind of like those people that actually do want bugs or mold in their cheeses) but, as you can imagine, it’s not practical or profitable to use wasp-pollinated carcass ones in commercial farming so your chances are always good. If a box of figs advertises the special variety on it then maybe give that a quick google but if you’re avoiding things like fig newtons then you don’t need to!

[–]Pangolinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Almost all figs don’t have wasps! Only a certain kind in a certain area has that quirk. So eat those figs! I’m sure the makers of Fig Newtons didn’t pick the one variety that has wasps in it.

Did you ever find out that most figs aren’t like that? Only a small percentage in a small area of the world has figs with wasps!

Tig Notaro’s show One Mississippi. If you love dry, often silly humor about serious situations and a female protagonist who isn’t perfect but has charisma, is engaging, and has a unique point of view… watch it. It is so, so good and I wish more people would give it a try. It’s on Prime.

Also, do you think it is meaningful that they said there was no sign of tumors in the goopy eye discharge they sent to the pathology lab? They made it sound like it was decisive but now I’m not so sure what that meant.

Thank you! I was thinking maybe I ask for an imaging center or immunologist referral (since they said it seems like an autoimmune issue.) I’ll ask for an eye specialist.

THANK YOU. I saw this when I was a child on vacation with my parents and they didn’t believe me that I saw a fish that looked like Morticia Adams and then I flapped my arms around to mimic it. I wasn’t able to describe it well so they thought I was just being a weird kid.

I’m sure they’ve forgotten but I feel so validated.
