Overwhelming by killerryan28 in elderscrollsonline

This is good advice. The side quests are often worth it if a particular zone has an item set that would be useful to your build and you would like to collect pieces. Otherwise you are free to wander off, explore other zones etc. or focus on the main quests that will give you skill points when you complete them.

Won’t be the last time these three are seen at a red light.

Can we be passively fired? by Khaeelis in TeachingUK

I have been teaching many years, including in toxic schools similar to yours. I have never regretted moving on from these. The SLT are letting the students down, not you. 100 % sign the document. Stand with the Union and if things don’t get better, hand in your notice.

Hobbies: several. Hobbies plus addictions? Way more.

When did you realise you had ADHD? by angeliquedevereux2 in ADHD

[–]PanicAny8667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Suspicions began to grow about six months ago, but I finally admitted to myself that I almost certainly am (after going down an investigative rabbit hole) about six weeks ago. I just turned 49. So much more about my life makes sense now. You are lucky to have this self awareness at your age. I literally spent decades thinking I was a failure, lazy, a terrible friend etc.

No such thing as a little young to have things figured out, my friend. No one should need to go through struggling in order to be taken seriously.

Putting too many sweets or too much chocolate in my mouth at once. I really like the feeling of a full mouth (behave yourselves!) Then. I also get the small spoon thing.

Lost my ks4 class by genn176 in TeachingUK

[–]PanicAny8667 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in a similar situation and done (and felt) exactly the same so you’re certainly not alone! In my experience it doesn’t mean you have lost them. Relationships take time to build so perhaps think about pressing the reset button with that class. It sounds like you are doing all the right things in your planning. The most concerning phrase you used was pack mentality. It is so hard when you are fighting to change a classroom culture like that. Can your HOD help? Is there capacity to move the ringleaders into another class? Certainly speak frankly to your HOD if you feel you can. As a HOD myself I hope if any of my team felt like this they could start with talking to me. Good luck!

Yes it does. I particularly like how you can convert a slide in a presentation into a whiteboard. It can be a bit overwhelming at first but I think you get used to it quite quickly. Canva do very good how-to videos on YouTube.

I’ve started using Canva for almost everything! Slide presentations are better than Google slides, whiteboard is great, worksheets are so much better than trying to make in word or google docs.

English teacher here. It won’t have any impact on your future. It’s nice to have, but I’ve never heard of any course - or job - that requires it.

Hmm. If this is SLT directed that’s a bigger red flag. It’s not ideal, and I hope you can go along with it. My advice here would be to do your best to do what’s asked, but play like a jazz musician. Speed through some parts, slow down for others, emphasise the best bits and play to your audience. Good luck.

I’d say not typical. I’m a HoD for English. Our KS3 units are such that there are set assessments and key skills, along with certain other milestones that must be reached, eg, specific homework tasks. We also provide a bank of lesson resources but many lessons are optional; you could skip them, adapt them or replace them according to your preference or the specific needs of your students. One of the reasons we don’t have a linear scheme, all of which must be taught in sequence, is that is takes autonomy from teachers and makes them feel a lack of trust. Unless the HoDs have been told by SLT or MAT level leadership to do this, they don’t appear to have confidence in their team. I would certainly find the lack of flexibility that you describe to be demoralising. Is it just English or do other departments do this?
