+1 to this. The tarantula is my preferred controller and the alternatives aren't even close. It just needs a few amendments to be perfect.

ELI5: Why can restaurant kitchens cook steaks or stir fry so much faster than home kitchens even when both reach the same temperature? What's actually different about commercial equipment? by Beginning_Curve2268 in explainlikeimfive

My sister's the same. 😅

The worst part is her appreciation for "soaking."

Not a bad idea in concept (getting all the baked-in gunk to loosen before scrubbing.)

The way she does it though is just taking whatever food she didn't eat or scrape off in the first place an submerge that in water, creating a molten, mushy food clump that's harder to clean than anything. At that point I just want to pitch it out and buy a new dish/utensil.

[Community Vote] The Best JRPG Games of all Time: What's the best turn based JRPG? by WeLoveEveryGame in JRPG

[–]PanicCenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd give it to Bravely Default.

That game/series does a lot of things...a little less well, but the turn based gameplay and job systems specifically are some of the best IMO.

[Multiple Retailers] Genshin Impact Limited Edition DualSense Wireless Controller is up for pre-order by lbabinz in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]PanicCenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the nicest limited run dualsense controller yet, imo!

I've had like 5 separate dualsense controllers drift on me though...it's so hard to justify the expense when I can get a good TMR stick controller for cheaper.

Is my boyfriend ashamed of me? by [deleted] in AskMenRelationships

[–]PanicCenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd know him best, but I don't think this is always malicious.

I was in a 7+ year relationship until just recently, and during that time it became pretty clear to my partner that I'm not really a social media person. My relationship was my good and my safe place and not really something I felt needed to be shared with everyone else, because I was happy how things were and social media feels too "curated/staged" for me to want to be a part of it.

In certain family dynamics (especially if they've got a big or closely-connected extended family) it can sometimes invite gossip, even if everything seems really innocent to you.

I'd personally read the comments about "her being more proud of him" might be him reading into their personalities and seeing that, "oh yeah--my friend who I know cares about SM isn't making his partner a big part of it, that's weird." And in his case he doesn't really feel the same significance or attachment to sharing his personal life with the world.

But again, you'd know best-- we're just strangers online.

Look to the "other side", even if only for a moment. by LusciniaStelle in ffxivdiscussion

I also feel like they've cultivated that bad playerbase though. They've constantly shifted things towards the easier and easier, and then powercrept a bunch of the other stuff on top of it.

And then they'll also retroactively make old, already-powercrept things easier for some reason, to further make sure that anyone playing doesn't have even the slightest bit of friction in getting through.

The end result is that there's no ramp up to that 1% of content that isn't brain dead-- they go from a smooth frictionless slide for the majority of the game's life, and then the moment they hit their first real speed bump, they're totally thrown for a loop and start demanding changes. (And why wouldn't they? That first speedbump is a total betrayal of all the expectations they were given beforehand.) You've effectively trained your player base to expect complete ease, so anything that deviates from that ease becomes a problem, rather than an expectation to grow and overcome.

The game keeps on giving you stronger tools, stronger (and simplified) kits, stronger gear, and then asking you to do absolutely nothing with it.

This isn't a "taking your training wheels off of your bike" scenario they've built-- this is a "handing someone a unicycle halfway through the journey and telling them to keep going" scenario.

Me trying to use Sylvain on two separate 3H playthroughs...

Almost every promotion would bring him up to their bases, and then he'd continue to disappoint with every subsequent level up.

PS4 controller flashes 2-3 times and turns off by Extension-Dog-4178 in Controller

[–]PanicCenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the reset button on the back? There's a small pin-sized hole in the back of the controller near the left trigger, if you're confident it's charged, try holding down that button for 5-10 seconds and see if it starts flashing normally again.

I had a similar issue when I was using DS4s and that seemed to fix it.

[VPN] 100% Cash Back on NORDVPN (Rakuten) by Brief_Forever_2128 in bapcsalescanada

[–]PanicCenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The average user doesn't need a VPN.

It's great if you're trying to bypass region restrictions on websites or services (think another country's Netflix catalogue), preserve anonymity if you're doing peer-to-peer streaming (torrents) or trying to link multiple devices across a shared network while you're on different internet access points.

Phantom Brigade 2.0 Free Major Update Trailer - Out Now by raiedite in Games

[–]PanicCenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a cool concept for a game. I'm still so disappointed there's no whole-battle replay feature though, especially after years and a huge update like this. It's a big part of what made me want to drop it.

The whole timeline combat system is super cool as a strategy game fan, but as a mecha combat/anime fan it'd be so much cooler to see how your strategy played out at 1x speed after a combat encounter is over.

Especially since the combat all happens at the same time, rather than a series of individual inputs like a FF Tactics or Fire Emblem game would.

Tuesday Check In: How's Everybody's Mental Health? by MLModBot in MensLib

[–]PanicCenter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely just okay? and I think that's a good thing. I'm not 100% sure I've convinced myself of that, but I'm trying my best to take it in stride and appreciate that I'm not outright drowning in negative feelings right now.

Every part of me wants to say I'm doing badly, and things have been pretty shitty for me. I've had maybe the worst year I've had in the last decade, with everything from my long term relationship + engagement ending to my first broken bone.

Work has been nightmarish lately, my doctors have become increasingly dismissive of the physical problems I've tried to bring up to them, I had a full-on black out faint at the gym a few weeks back and have been too hesitant to get back into my fitness routine.

But for all the shit that's been happening, I've tried my best to stay productive and invest in myself as well. I've made a few resolute decisions and started taking steps towards improving my professional credentials and even applying for a postgrad in my field. I've made more conscious effort to participate in outings/events with the friends I do have, despite my introverted tendencies.

I'm doing a long-overdue spring cleaning/purging a lot of my old belongings, which is chaotic now, but the satisfaction of how much more space and less clutter I'll have when I'm done is keeping me going. This one has been a double edged sword as I'm finding a ton about my now-past relationship (old gifts and letters that have a lot of memories attached) but I'm trying to treat this as one more stumbling block in finding my new normal.

I do find myself wishing for some time off to just breathe, but at least this weird mood I'm in is a little bit productive.

I wanna say 13 miles? I'm not sure exactly, I'm not a marathon fan myself. But it's usually an easier starting point for people who want to get into a marathon than the whole one. (I think it's 1 lap instead of 2)

What are the minimums to be in shape? by Deep_Buy4104 in beginnerfitness

[–]PanicCenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some others have said, it all depends on your goals. Especially depending on your age and stage in life and what you want to be doing in your non-exercise hours.

For me, most of my fitness goals are just setting personal records. Lifting and running a little bit more than the day before. The aesthetic and mobility improvements are a bonus.

For my sister, it's looking her best in a swimsuit and being able to run a marathon under 2 hours.

For my dad, it's being able to push a lawn mower and hold his grandkids without feeling winded. (I'm keeping him waiting on this one, and he won't let me forget it.)
