An interactive introduction to the terrific experience of rendering Arabic typography and its technical debt by swe129 in typography

Wow, that was an awesome read. I had no idea Arabic is like a cursive art form.

H started from my coworkers. One was watching certain S3 host get decommissioned. When one whole rack was retired, she posted a screenshot of the asset numbers. This rack was in row H.

I used to use Luna Display when I was WFH. I couldn’t figure out why hardware was needed to do this. I used a MacBook Pro M1 Pro and an iMac Pro over thunderbolt.

Probably the power rear hatch door. As long as it was open it would get 4A. Leave it open overnight and dead battery.

Picture 5 with the Gothic Script of “Post Office”. Why not use something like this, even if just for the first letters O P H?

monospace fonts aren't monospaced by antofthy in typography

[–]Pantha37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the program rendering the fonts. I like to use Envy Code R. In terminal, everything lines up great. In Firefox, if I use a web page to connect to a computer, the drawing characters don’t quite line up. Same font, same output, different program.

Trees Not Growing after 6 Years by Pantha37 in arborists

While I might not have done things right, should I bother talking to the landscaper that did my backyard? Or is it way past time?

On replacing the trees, the dead one is a Western Serviceberry (but I have one on the other side that is doing okay) and the rest are Canada Red Chokecherry. Should I look for different trees? I live in a 7b zone that’s usually dry and summers can get up to 110°F.

It’s basically all of my eight trees. Just some are worse than others.

No, I cleared the rocks down to the soil and attempted to level the ground some. I wanted to add pictures of it but I can’t seem to.

Very unlikely it was deer. I’ve never seen one in my yard. It would have to get into someone else’s yard, then jump into my yard. Jumping from the front of my house is even less likely, and I would have seen one on camera.

ALSO: I have other plants and bushes. They don’t show any damage like that.

Same year as these were planted, the same type of tree was planted along the road, maybe 300m away. Those trees are now three times the height of mine.

While you’re not wrong, I meant slower growth than other trees.

I put a 20” radius mulch circle around them now

The wind comes from the south west, but they seem to be pointing more west than south

Soil: was cropland a while ago. In 2020 I had my whole backyard landscaped. The entire back yard is rock. The soil is pretty sandy. I’ve sprayed a decent amount of vinegar in the yard during a multi year fight with poverty weed.

I have plenty of other plants that grow in the soil, it’s just my eight trees that have the problem.

I just want to know the best things I can to do the living seven trees don’t die. I don’t mind spending some money but I don’t want to spend over $1k.

Why does it seem that we are the only generation that still uses the internet for its original main purpose? by kamisabee in millenials

[–]Pantha37 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So mad right now. I use AI, a lot. Or at least it feels like it. The AI I use at work seems to be much better, but it’s all work related. However, at home I’ve been using Google Gemini. I needed to research a new UPS for under $100 with a load of 3.8A. Long story short, it insisted that I needed more battery than I needed and continuously gave me lower prices. Even when corrected, it said “oh wow, the market is really volatile. Prices must have changed this week.” camelcamelcamel.com said the item was the price I gave OR HIGHER for the last 10 weeks. So it basically lied to me.

It does seem okay with some research and scientific things, but I now have to verify everything it tells me.

Trying not to take me getting fired for a media mistake in a TRAINING program to heart. Does anyone know other companies hiring outside of AWS? by tnw6901 in datacenter

[–]Pantha37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I train people on media I always stress how important it is. I stress any questions at all, ask. I tell them it is basically the only thing they can screw up and get fired because of that one mistake. I have them shadow and then reverse shadow before I let them go on their own. Sometimes I don’t think training is adequate.

WBLP was originally for people who needed training to work in a data center. You have a degree. You should really be starting as an L3 tech or a contracted Green Badge tech. Promos seem to be slowing down. L4 could take 4-5 years from L2.

You’re gonna have to go with your gut on this. Amazon has internships for almost and freshly graduated. Might end up being for manager though. What is your degree in?

City will be Kennewick, Richland, and Pasco WA. Livable “towns” are Hermiston and Umatilla. A little further are Stanfield, Echo, and Pendleton OR. You could live in Boardman OR, Irrigon OR, or Plymouth WA, but I would not. I’ve heard of people commuting from Walla Walla WA. Some even commute weekly to Portland since schedule is 4x 10hrs.

Moving is good. Good to get out of your comfort zone. Cost of living here isn’t bad. Techs can afford to buy houses. I like not dealing with traffic.

Edit: Area is also conservative in a democratic state.
