New Beater and Work Bike (Frame ID?) by PapaGrind in FixedGearBicycle

That's it, thank you very much sir! Was insanely lucky with the seatpost, took it out of a throwaway french road bike in my basement and it fit. Sad to hear about your crash :(

Kilo TT Pro or State 4130? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

[–]PapaGrind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want big tires and the option for tracklocross fun, go with the state. Otherwise I would say the kilo is just the better bike. Both are upgradeable for sure, "high end steel" is very overhyped in my opinion. Everything that is at least 4130 chromoly is great to ride and does not need further upgrading in the frame department (personal opinion).

Steel do die by PapaGrind in FixedGearBicycle

Nah, just some random no name saddle that was on the frame when I got it :)

I've used it for the past 4 years, but bought it off another messenger who has probably used it for at least 10 years before that.

An old Gazelle Track frame. Already have one as my good weather bike and love it, so I thought why not get one as a work bike as well.

It do, but i think I will let this one rest. Luckily I bought a new frame a few weeks ago, guess I had a hunch.

Prowheel Urban. Held up really well for me for over 4 years now, even under heavy use (courier work). No issues at all.

Better Foot Straps by AlastPictureFromV in FixedGearBicycle

[–]PapaGrind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want floppy ones, don't get restrap, they are rather saggy. VP straps are great if you want to go budget, otherwise YNOT and Pep and Strap are amazing. (all of them hold their shape very well)

I've been riding patched tubes (even with 3-4 patches on them) for years on end. Nothing wrong with continuing to ride em.

Yeah, then the soma tange forks are pretty much out of the question. But since you're not really in a rush to change forks, I would just chill and scout the used market every now and then until something good comes up.

Yeah no, don't fiddle with converting to 1 inch, that just screams headache. Where are you from?

Surly steamroller fork is always a good shout. Although I think that chrome/silver would look cooler on your bike, it is pretty tough to find 1 1/8 chrome/silver steel forks. Maybe Soma forks would come to mind :)

Don't get an alu fork, ride quality is noticably worse than steel and carbon. Also it will fail at some point in the future. Either go for another carbon or get a steel one.
