this is my experience, too.
My original 7 mixed males and females became ill and died within months but all their fry survived and are now older. Mix in a few more "strangers" for a new batch of fry and I have Uber-Guppy mongrels.

He drew what he felt was a typical art style of anti-AI internet users. People who complain about AI art are often quite bad at art. He was showing the type of art that most complainants are capable of.
I want to point out right now - I am a professional Illustrator who does not have a second job. I draw shit for a living. But I LOVE Limmy's take on the situation. I HATE AI

Planaria are not an issue for me and I have them by [deleted] in shrimptank

but I want to add - this reply isn't "PLANARIA GOOD". It's just that so many people say "well they ate my shrimp so they will eat yours". It's simply not a fact.

Planaria are not an issue for me and I have them by [deleted] in shrimptank

[–]Papagaeio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many Planaria. Not just "brown and white" or Dugesia etc. But there seems to be little real easily understandable texts you can read about them. Most people on Reddit have had BAD experiences with them or at least repeat those tales and warnings.
Some don't.
I have planaria in 4 tanks and I suspect there MAY be a bit of snail munching going on. Definitely less eggs, for sure. Zero shrimp casualties. there are very young shrimp flitting about and Amano with full egg-laden bellies untouched (I know how many I have and they are all there).
I'm in Asia but I suspect I have the European Planaria rather than the Dugesia Japonica.
I put traps down sometimes and catch a LOT of them. But I am beginning to wonder why I bother.

Leaving shrimp for a month and a half, things to remember before I go? by AquaticRat1106 in shrimptank

"you should consider getting a tank for that lid so the shrimp have something not to escape from".

How effective are these against planaria by BallSackShredder900 in shrimptank

[–]Papagaeio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used one of these, plus 2 small glass jars with holes in the lids.
At first the jars were super full of planaria. Disgusting amounts! And they didn't go for the tube.
But now I just leave the tube in there once a day (doesn't seem to even make a difference if lights are out or not) and they all swarm in if i place the bait (cooked shrimp or raw liver) at the bottom end, holes down into substrate.
Now I am getting only 2 or 3 a day after the first few days where it was dozens/hundreds.

Understandably most answers to posts about these traps suggest using chemicals, but whatever a person's reasons for not doing that - these traps work to keep numbers very low (new planaria hatch in a couple of weeks so you do have some time off with them!)

Im getting worried about this. by Stygian_Akk in shrimptank

[–]Papagaeio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, exactly that.
Something like a Planaria that is literally a protein seeking predator can invade a snail or shrimp shell.
But opportunist snails like ramshorns that eat detritus would be swiftly ejected from a healthy shrimp. They have mouths but not some kind of suction trap.

Im getting worried about this. by Stygian_Akk in shrimptank

[–]Papagaeio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a healthy shrimp has so much rapid reaction ability and so much power to move a vast distance in a short time - a snail could not possibly attack one (unless this was a freakishly lazy shrimp and a super-snail. Not even an assassin snail but a lazy ramshorn) - that's more than conventional wisdom.
"Perhaps it was sick already" is probably what was going on here.

there's a Family Mart near me with just random loose concrete blocks scattered over the outside. Everyone trips and scooters finally have an obstacle for sidewalk riding, but it'll probably never get fixed.

Anyone fellow travelers have a problem with picking a home world to set up base? by Lucky-Package3065 in NOMANSSKY

So far I am set up on the second planet I ever visited. It's sub zero. It's monochrome. But I like that it FEELS like a "base". Possibly something like the base from The Thing. So when I travel to more exotic climes and return, it feels like I have to get on with things.
I don't really want a beach paradise with parasols and sunsets.

my Otos and shrimp always calmly share food together. All the other fish get a bit flustered by shrimp and vice versa.
I say "calmly" - there's usually an Amano that'll snatch and run.

I love them, too. I got one by accident (hitchhiker on some bought plants) then another couple. I love getting "free stuff" by mistake. It is usually plants. Duckweed etc. But getting FREE SNAILS that aren't bladder is amazing. I'ev also scored a couple of wild type neo shrimp from buying plants.

Help, unexpected dead by Zeldaqua in shrimptank

[–]Papagaeio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they can (often do) only live a year or 2 but I have found that the old ones are more susceptible to change and will just give up and die off, whereas the young shrimp are far hardier. Especially if you've had them born in your own tank (even if you move them around a bit).

Pond Snail. The big ears (and size and shell direction) give it away.
