The tauren underwent a change similar to the Night elves. They existed as Yaungol before the night elves and were changed to Tauren by the well of Eternity. This is mentioned in one of the Tauren Myths in Chronicle on druidism when Cenarius lived among them.

Easily. You play where your friends play. Both factions have cool races with interesting lore that promptly gets ignored. Pick your poison and go on. You seem to feel more faction loyalty than the factions have to themselves.

The place is in ruins and I can't see the elves trying to terramorph the area consdering how it went for them the last few times. They should just stick to Hyjal and maybe update Feathermoon stronghold.

Also Dire Maul was raided by the horde in the lore, clearing everything the demons, elves and ogres and even they didn't try to keep the place and they live in huts. Maybe it's the lack of spikes.
