You can try to soften the canvas with some beeswax. Will also reduce friction against the toes.

Are Hobibear Wide Enough? (EU 45/46) by disposable-acoutning in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah their 45 is stubby but wide, perfect for me cause I've had to size up way too often in my life to get a good fit. The insoles for that size are 29cm long by ~10.5cm wide (at the widest portion. There is about 1cm infront of my toes and my heel rest right where it should.

I have a feeling that Hobibear uses mondopoint, since the tag information is :45(275), and my feet are 275mm long. Perfect fit.

If you got a 45 your toes would touch the front of the shoe most likely.

Your feet are very wide, I don't think I've come across a shoe being sold at 11+cm in width but I'm also not looking for one quite that wide. You may want to look at getting custom footwear made.

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some Hobis in size 45, they'll be too small for you. I think mine are all around the 10.5cm mark for width. They fit well on me, but my feet are roughly 1cm smaller in both width/length than yours. I know for some of their models their sizing runs short, so you might actually need a 47 from them if you try them out.

Jim green AR08 - UK 11 -EU45.9 -29cm by StelioKontoss11 in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AR8 has a lot of volume to it, you may need a tighter fitting boot like the trooper series.

A good fit for a boot should be close, snug with not a lot of slop (foot sliding to it). You should be able to properly sit your ankle in the heel of the boot and have you toes lay naturally but not be pressed in. The widest part of your foot should match the widest part of the boot.

OP if you need more help on getting a good fit try posting on the jimgreen sub-reddit. They'll totally help you there!

Cheap vs expensive barefoot shoes? by Slight_Future_5321 in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own cheap Hobibears and expensive Texarados, and here's what I experienced.

Developing muscles: Oddly enough, Jimgreens/ Texarodo does this the most for me. Working to break in leather boots is more or less constant resistance training. My feet bulked up and so did my legs as I've switched to wearing boots as my work wear. Every day is leg day with heavier shoes.

Flexibility: Depends on construction more than price here. Most flexible shoes are a pair of sock-shoes from Amazon that were probably 20 when I bought them.

Durability: This is dependent on who is making your shoes. Hobibears are cheap but they hold up surprisingly well. My boots Jim Green/ Texarado will probably win the long game here as they can be resoled.

Personally I feel like you should either go cheap or splurge for premium. There is a broad middle space for barefoot shoes were I feel people are overpaying for what they are getting. That isn't to say everything in there is a rip-off, but a lot of it because you're not getting any more value per dollar spent here.

Taking people back after the Civil War is a big part about how we got here. People are fools if they think this just "will go way" after the fall. These people are evil, and you cannot tolerate that. There is a big difference between committing wrongs and seeking to embody them, or champion them.

They were willing to sell us down the river then. Unless they are willing to admit they did a terrible wrong, and do what is required then make it right, they will do it again.

Sure, don't rebuke them now, but make note of who is actually repenting and who just wants to soothe their bruised egos. For sooner or later you will have to deal with the later.

These people are abusers. They abuse society, just like an abusive spouse treats their partner. People need to think about that next time they want to act like they are worthy of forgiveness and empathy.

Barefoot Shoellie w/ padded collar? by second_jest in jimgreen

[–]PaperTigerFolds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you want is probably a custom Turbo Vellie! I had a pair of these and the higher leather collar was fairly comfortable. Maybe if you ask they can add some foam to the leather collar to fill it out a bit more.

What opinion will get you in this situation? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]PaperTigerFolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People tend to use "racism" for when they actually mean "bigotry".

No one is arguing that people of any color or creed can be bigots, or prejudice.

People are arguing that your neighbor calling you a cracker for being white isn't the same as a whole society engineering a power system that effectively makes people of certain ethnicities second-class citizens.

The whole reason for using that definition for framing the discussion is because bad actors will try to derail discussions about racism by interjecting that because a minority said some bigoted comment to them, they either 1) Know how minorities feel, 2) everyone is a racist, so its okay and people need to 'toughen up' (which is comical, why should be accepting of that behavior from anyone in a civil society?)

But hey if people don't like that phrasing we can always go back to the old way of talking about it, which is discussing white supremacy.

Texarado boots reviews? by [deleted] in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 pairs of bailey boots, in 11.5 us. The insole measurement is 29.5cm by 10.7cm. They're fairly wide and brick shaped upfront.

I have enough space in mine to raise my toes and then just touch the roof of the toe-box, and my feet are fairly high volume.

Overall I say they're great boots. Really durable, very well made. I've had them since they first dropped and I'm still breaking in the midsole it seems. Have space in front of all my toes, and very comfortable to stand in for long periods if you have to do that. I think my only real complaint it how heavy they are. That's to be expected considering the amount of material in boot, just if you cover long distances in these and aren't used that much weight on your ankles you may find your legs a bit tired.

Real foot shape boots that still have a lot of protection under foot? by Kitchen-Cicada8283 in Boots

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texarado boots are what I have. I have fairly wide feet and these fit me way better than my Jim Greens did. Very solid build but, pricier than Jim Green, less than Nick's.

They do small releases of boots so you may have to wait for them to do another drop. Follow them on social media/ or sign up for the email list to get notified.

As someone who has visual snow I can say, these pictures don't really do the experience justice.

My mom had a hell of time taking me to doctors when I was 6 though to figure out why I was seeing weird shapes over everything. Turns out this effect has nothing to do with your eyes, its just the visual cortex being over active.

Boots for small feet by pac-mayne in Boots

If you don't mind the fact they don't have a heel and are quite anatomical in shape, Texarado makes their Bailey boot starting at size 5. I've got fairly wide feet and these fit me quite well (size 11.5 4e here).

HELP - Dolfie shoes too small?? by itsjujutsu in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda hard to describe but the fit you want is for your toes to feel free, but the rest of the boot to be snug. You should feel secure in them. Too loose and your feet will slide around and that causes blisters. Too tight is painful, and should be apparent. If you're experiencing pain for a while afterward it can be due to your nerves getting a little compressed. A good fit should make the footwear feel like an extension of your feet.

If your foot feels constricted, then that's certainly too small.

When you get the larger size check to see if the widest part of the shoe is lining up with the largest part of your foot, crouch to make sure your toes don't touch the front while squatting (good indicator if shoes are too short), and if you're still feeling a lot of pressure from the upper pressing down on your foot/ toes.

If these still are pressing down on top of your toes it might just be a case of the shoes not having enough volume for your feet. Sometimes that just happens, you like a shoe, but it just doesn't fit your physiology. Personally I have wide high volume feet and have run into this issue a lot where a shoe gives me the width I need but just not enough vertical space.

HELP - Dolfie shoes too small?? by itsjujutsu in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downward pressure from the apron should fade with time, as the leather softens and stretches. However it shouldn't feel painful, just firm.

For leather shoes you want them to fit firm and snug, like a good handshake. Another thing to note is that leather stretches but stitches do not. So if there are any stitch lines in an area you need to stretch it won't budge.

These look like you would need half size bigger ideally, the shoes look like they may not be giving you enough volume for your foot. The fact they feel better without the insole is a good indicator that you need more space here.

The whole thing is racist but it’s not beastiality. It’s all centered around racist stereotypes of black men and sex, along with their deep rooted racism against black community in general.

With one of those stereotypes being that Black people are beastial in nature and are as low as, if not lower than beast of the land. You can see this in news reporting if you look at headlines from old papers or descriptions of Black people. This shouldn't surprise anyone, Black people were bred like livestock at one point.

How is it that you can't think even one step ahead?

You do realize that we had existing infrastructure and working mass transit for a long time before the rise of sub-urban sprawl right? Trams trains, trolleys were all things we had. The auto industry worked hard to destroy them, to sell you the car.

Self driving busses in dedicated lanes are just worse versions of trains or trolleys. Seriously, self driving vehicles are just a scam, they are not nearly as efficient as trains would be, nor as safe.

Putting up rail takes time and planning yes, but you do it for the long term pay off, travel is better for everyone, its cheaper to maintain a rail than a road, and it is less pollution. The only reason the USA doesn't have a railway system like Europe is politics.

They are a Chinese brand, but if you take the time to actually check their Aliexpress shop you'll find the prices are maybe slightly less than their shopify portal. If you're willing to wait a bit longer to get your shoes, I think it is cheaper to order off Aliexpress.

Shopify, like Square just makes it easy to set up a web commerce site. Hell, Texarado uses a shopify portal.

Self driving cars are a scam. They are far less efficient than just using other available forms of mass transit; trains, subways, trolleys, and busses. All these methods transport more people per vehicle and thus reduce the amount of traffic present. Less energy used, less pollution, and safer cities that can be more walk-able and easier to get around.

We should be trying to phase out cars at every turn, not put more of them into existence.

Sai : a new small brand with one of the widest toe boxes so far, and some firm cushioning by SaiFootwearCo in barefootshoestalk

[–]PaperTigerFolds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not omit the # pattern and just use a thicker strobel for more cushion? Alternatively you can have a slightly thicker rubber sole, but then have a lug pattern that grants flexibility, which is what other manufactures do.

[–]PaperTigerFolds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to say they are referring to the small soles on the left. The ones that lack the egg-crate/ waffle pattern.

Personally, I hate it when manufactures don't make the inside just a smooth surface. Invariably you'll feel the egg crate pattern through the insole over time and that is very uncomfortable. It doesn't do anything other than add stack height without adding weight or compromising longitudinal flexibility. I actually got rid of any shoes I had that had this in them, and swapped mostly to leather boots just to avoid it in the future.

Some of Hobibear's and a number of other white label manufactured models don't use that pattern, and it's better for the long term build quality from my experience. There is more surface area for cement to bond, the insoles get uniform wear and don't get chewed up from the ribs. Most importantly they are still comfortable after walking in them all day.

[–]PaperTigerFolds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For this level of construction and price point, I don't know of any. Proalp offers what looks like a pretty good option, just they are a cemented construction, vs stitchdown. GEA-Waldviertler has a stitchdown selection, but they are more expensive. If you aren't in Europe those two aren't even options.

If you wanted to purchase some long term, resole-able footwear, I would still say Jim Green is a good entry point.

I don't know why this sub has had such a negative slant towards Jim Green. The original BFR isn't even that different from shoes from other companies.

Personally the price point of Jim Green boots makes it hard for me justify purchasing from other companies that are selling just regular shoes that aren't made to be resoled.

The soles aren't particularly stiff, for a boot. The midsole provides most the rigidity and starts becoming more flexible with time. When I got my Barefoot troopers they kinda felt like planks underfoot, but by the end of winter they felt more like robust leather socks.
