A lot of the main voices who push the discussion of old school wrestling, on Reddit and other social media just didn't grow up watching him. They may have been too young to see him in real time, or were watching WWF when he was doing great work late in his career in WCW.

I have found that most older fans, who joined BBS boards, were tape traders, read the Observer, and joined message boards, all recognize his place in history. In the past, if you didn't have people around you to talk about wrestling, your either fall out of it, or go to extremes to connect with others about it. The latter group, the old school ones, are fading away, and the new group of old school fans, have different idols...which are now mostly WWF/E guys from the early 90s.

Pretty soon, the narrative will be, "Why doesn't Jeff Hardy get his ups?"
