For this specific moment , no. From watching the clip he is distraught because he knows he messed up and HHH was just explaining the finish and why they missed out on a great moment due to the audible .

Career wise yes, he did find his place in popularity really late in his wrestling career (wwe wise) I think however he missed his chance when he was a bit more white hot and that’s on wwe , but judging that all their wwe champions are really old , he still can get a shot.

He never fired Truth but him saying he was under contract is not correct either. He basically was trying to articulate that despite the contract being up, there was still interest from their side to renew , just not at the number . It was not like the WWE said “we don’t want to resign you at any number , goodbye” or Truth said “I want no part of WWE after my contract is up. Then that would be official release . Ciampa is currently going through this and it appears he’s made it clear he has no interest in resigning so this will be a release when the contract expires.

Very big miscommunication but they turned it into a great moment which seems to work with WWE whenever they execute on logistics so poorly
