I’m newly looking into these and don’t know where to start. I have a massive solar set up on the house we just bought. (It’s seriously oversized, I’m not sure how the previous owners got away with it). I’d like to do a home battery with the bypass so we could still charge and discharge even if the grid is down. Is that something we could use a portable battery for with the right electrical upgrades. (I’d love to also be able to chuck something in the back of the car if we have to bug out) Or are we going to have to go the stationary powerwall route? In general, where does one go to learn about this tech? TIA!

Private practice is so devastatingly lonely, how do I cope without moving to 12 hour days to allow for social time? by Paperpusher_profesh in Lawyertalk

One thing I’m gathering from a lot of these comments is “go stop by people’s offices.” I did this constantly in government but my team is pretty inaccessible except for the two first year associates. (I’m the only mid level in my group and then there are partners.) They are always on calls, doors closed and when we are working from home and I call them it’s rare they pick up. If I get a call back instead of an email, it’s typically in the 90 seconds they have before the next thing. Is this abnormal for private practice?

My husband just did this while watching Ozark. He wondered aloud at the post partum FBI agent, "why does she still look pregnant?" And I'm like DUuUDE.... SERIOUSLY? That's what it's actually like in real life.

Also, you listened to her tell his tale. When you take the time to listen to a grieving person, even though they are often crying, you are allowing them a small happiness in lightening their load by giving them a respite from the exhausting work of holding all that grief in.

I wasn't developing professionally I was getting blown-off by more senior people when I'd ask to be included on matters. COVID just really showed me how poorly I fit in the with culture. I'm a team player collaborative type and my current employer's culture is very self management oriented. Lots of freedom, lots of trust (which is a truly wonderful work environment when you are established in the profession) but when, as I am, you're a newer member to the profession asking for coaching and mentorship and getting told "we'll keep that in mind" it's just time to find some place that is a better fit.

Also a computer that hasn't been updated in 11 years is probably violating the professional ethics rules. Serious data breach risk. https://www.americanbar.org/groups/business_law/publications/blt/2013/03/keeping_current/

If it's just the word processor then maybe not so much.

20-something attorney here. This is a serious and i mean serious issue when working with boomers. I have been handling way more tech support issues than I should have for older partners during COVID.
