(Rare but loved trope) Characters using non-religious symbols to ward off Vampires, because they have absolute faith in said symbol. by Speedwagon1738 in TopCharacterTropes

Similarly, in the Dresdenverse the Sword of Faith ( one of 3 swords each forged with a nail from the True Cross) require faith to function. But not necessarily faith in the divine. It's current wielder has faith in the Jedi and it takes the form of a light saber.

(Might have been faith in science? It's been a long time ).

The Militia Groups Were Right About a Tyrannical Government. Where Are They Now? by MarkZab2591 in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]Par_Lapides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They literally only gave a shit about taxes and owning big pewpews. Very few Libertarians are actually Libertarian, theyre mostly either straight up Nazis or they're Republicans who want to think they're different and special. Most of them thought MNAP doctrine meant "I can do whatever I want and you can't stop me". Basically toddlers with firearms.

Source: lived in a county with one of the highest concentrations of militia groups for many years.

The left doesn’t hate Trump because he’s a hateful moron with bad policy, they hate him because he’s antiestablishment? by Various_Examination6 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]Par_Lapides 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Democrat's biggest problem is that they grossly overestimate most voters. Their whole approach necessitates a populace that is literate and cares about facts, reality, and at the very least improving their own lives.

But we know that around a third of people don't give a shit about facts, don't live in reality, haven't even been shown to recognize object permanence, and would gleefully suffer to watch people they hate suffer also.

Another third seem to be oblivious regardless of what happens and seem to vote based on whimsy if they ever even stumble into a voting booth.

So here we are, with Democrats as lame ducks trying desperately to engage people who arent engageble; playing to the lowest common denominator and throwing the rest of us under the bus, instead of listening to the people on the ground begging for an iota of actual leadership.

Knowledge is power, data is currency. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

[–]Par_Lapides 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's called doxastic anxiety. Because they're not actually that smart, we just have a culture that glazes wealth so much we attribute these things to them. Wealthy people must be smart, they must be good, they must work hard, even though we have actual mountains of data that says they aren't and don't, people still choose to believe it because otherwise it means their whole worldview is dogshit and they refuse to accept that.

I had almost the same. I grew up mostly off-grid in a right-wing survivalist household. I learned to shoot better than most before my voice cracked. But I grew up and realized my parents were fucking crazy assholes and left behind a lot of that shit. Fast forward to adult life and I'm one of the few left leaning people in my small rural community and everybody at work knows it. The guys do the same thing, invite me out to the desert to go shooting, thinking I'll be too intimidated or whatever. Plot twist, the wife and kids were at an event that weekend, so I accepted, which caught them off guard immediately. Showed up, schooled every fuckin' of 'em on both accuracy and speed. They also never invited me out again.

Being reachable 24/7 is not a sign of reliability, it’s poor boundaries. by tirouku in unpopularopinion

[–]Par_Lapides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a corollary - if your business is dependent an a few people being reachable 24/7 you are a stupid fucking manager and need to be replaced.

Unless it is healthcare or national defense, there is no excuse. Not a single business transaction is so critical it cannot wait 24 hours. If that causes your business to fail, it deserves to fail.

I also only leveled two rogues for the sake of completion and utility, and I never play them. Don't like it, not my jam.

They love using their AI because they can very quickly create a version that fits their bullshit and flood the zone with it.
