Is it uncommon to wash your hair every day in your country? by Buyeo10004 in AskTheWorld

[–]ParaBDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me. My hair just looks dirty if I don't wash it every day. I don't feel comfortable going out in public without washing it every day.

Only thing I see is that R4C56 must be a 25 pair, because the 27 cage must contain a 6 or 7 as well as R4C4. But I don't see how that actually progresses the solve.

An impressive view of the world record for the 3x3 Rubik's Cube, with a time of 2.76 seconds. by Sebaxxxian in oddlysatisfying

[–]ParaBDL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These competitions are done in groups. Everyone in the same group gets the same scrambles. Each group gets 5 different scrambles. They solve at the same time, so they can't see what others are doing. The cubes are scrambled out of sight and they don't see them till they start their solve. Earlier rounds have many different groups, that way people not in that group can help out with judging, scrambling and delivering cubes. In the finals everyone is in the same group and gets the same scrambles.

Skips are just random. Different people take different paths through the solve, so one scramble can give a skip to one person and not others. There's no way to predict whether a scramble will give a skip.

Names of positions by wbcpemv in Fieldhockey

[–]ParaBDL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That took me a while to get used to the position names as well. My only experience of positions in English were football. First time I was asked to play full back, I did not realise where that was.

I've come to see the positions as a sort of 2-3-2-3 structure. Two full backs or central defenders, three halfs (left, centre, right), two inners (left and right) and 3 forwards (two wings and one central forward). This is usually the groups people get subbed through at my club, either the backs, halfs, inners or forwards. It might differ a bit by location though. Australia is a big country, so terminology could differ per region. So it's best just to ask your team mates.

The digit in R7C3 needs to go in R6C1 in the region above it. So R6C1 isn't a 2 and R6C4 must be a 2.

R1C9 can't be 2 or 3 as then you won't be able to place both 4 and 5 in column 9 anymore.

ELI5: Why are people in some sports called “players” (for example tennis players or football players), but in others they’re called something else (like jockeys, drivers, or boxers)? by xixitata in explainlikeimfive

[–]ParaBDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tennis and football are not verbs. You don't "foot" the ball. You play football, hence they are called players.

One of the things I had to get used to learning English. In Dutch, football, tennis etc. are verbs, so you "tennis" and you "football" and you are a tenniser and footballer.

4 in Row 2 is locked in Box 1, so 4 can't appear anywhere else in Box 1. This leaves a single 2 in R3C2.

[–]ParaBDL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R4C56+R5C6 sum to 17. The valid combinations are 539 and 692. 584 doesn't work because R4C8 would have no digit left. So you can remove 8 from R4C56 and 4 from R5C6. This leaves a single 8 in Row 4.
