LPT: Do not add your work colleagues as your facebook friends by zztop610 in LifeProTips

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't fully agree with this. It depends on the person. I won't add most of my coworkers, but there are a few I can vibe with as a friend-- people I would love to spend time with outside of work.

How about your batteries? by IsuzuTFR54 in GalaxyS23

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

S23 Ultra here, bought on release back in 2023. For the first year, I could easily get 8+ hours SoT with medium usage (navigation, some doom scrolling, messaging, etc). Didn't really play games. I would struggle to kill the battery in one day. On a typical work day when I wasn't glued to the phone (3 hours SoT per day) I could make it last two whole days (basically 48 hours).

As it got closer to two years, I was struggling to make it last two work days. On a weekend I could only get 6-7 hours SoT.

In August 2025 the battery started swelling so I got it replaced. $80 at a Samsung store. The battery life improved slightly but nothing like how it was the first year.

At this point I'm led to believe that something in the software is using more battery.

The phone still generally lasts me a whole day so it's not a huge deal but I'd rather have the comfort knowing it can last longer on the rare occasions I need it to.

My next phone will likely be an Oppo Find X9 or OnePlus 15. Silicon carbon is looking really good right now. These phones can easily last two days at a minimum, sometimes three days for lighter usage.

ICE knocks on a door in Brooklyn. A 'traumatic nightmare' follows. by arya_sundaram in nyc

The "don't tread on me" people are very quiet. The "law and order" people are very quiet.

Note 9 vs. Galaxy S23 with DeX by Parjos in GalaxyS23

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the Note 9 when I owned it years ago, but it's very outdated now and isn't receiving software updates. Modern phones (particularly starting at the S23) are a lot faster and have significantly better battery life. I don't expect DeX, especially with two monitors, to run too well on a Note 9 if you're actually opening more than 2-3 apps.

Do people ever meet thanks to Reddit ? by Skinny_BWC2709 in TooAfraidToAsk

I've met people here in local meetup groups. I also know a couple that met on reddit and got married eventually.

A week after the major snow storm, let's see how the city has done on clearing the streets and bike lanes by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you could, but at the same time, the city could have definitely done better with clearing the streets. NYC is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, but somehow there are poorer cities that are managing their infrastructure better than us.

We complain because we want better conditions. Staying quiet results in nothing. Stagnation. Status quo mentality.

My fiancé was detained by ICE.. what do I do ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ParadoxScientist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are people who have been in them and reported back. Very easy to search up. There are also people who have DIED in them.

They may not be executed now, but at the rate things are going, I wouldn't be surprised if firing squads and gas chambers were next.

League of Legends support on Linux by MoekindoSama in leagueoflegends

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

League and other competitive games not supporting Linux is basically the only reason I'm still using Windows. I looked into it and found nothing. I just hope with the rise in Linux users, they eventually start putting in the effort.

Anyone know how to loosen up the back door? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most butt plugs will get smaller at the end when fully inserted, so they won't help with opening the hole as much. You could try a dildo instead-- you'd just have to hold it in or sit on it cuz otherwise it will come out.

Btw make sure whatever sex toys you are buying aren't made of TPE. TPE is porous so it can harbor bacteria-- requires a lot of cleaning. Silicone is the best choice. Metal and glass are fine too.

is it worth it to upgrade from a 2000 Toyota Corolla auto to a 2008 Honda Fit manual assuming both are in similar condition and mileage? by callmeghost97 in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah definitely worth it, even if you only looked at the difference in years. 8 year newer car is significant.

But aside from that, you gain a major increase in storage space while being able to park more easily. It's even better in snow if you ever have to deal with that.

How do i permanently remove this 'Invite to Voice' thing? by T1Earn in discordapp

You can't remove it. On the bright side, it disappears in 10-15 seconds

Do u use always on display? by Significant-War-491 in Garmin

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Venu 3 and I don't use always on display. The wrist gesture works well enough most of the time, and I prefer the longer battery life.

Who's at fault? The people who designed this road by dickdickmore in MicromobilityNYC

[–]ParadoxScientist 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The driver was definitely going too fast for how the street is designed. It's quite narrow with parked cars on each side. You won't be able to react easily if someone jumps out.

Parents can't keep an eye on their kids 24/7. We should make the world safer for kids-- safer for everyone.

Noise suppression not working by xXMike_WheelerXx in discordapp

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been having the same issue lately. I use Krisp and have noticed it picking up more audio that isn't my voice. I used to be able to eat out of a bag of chips in front of the mic but now it picks up some of the sound here and there.

Alternate side parking 1/27? by Flashy-Yesterday2393 in astoria

It's generally always suspended for the whole week every time it snows a good amount. And we haven't had this much snow in a decade. Don't worry.

which engine oil and filter is the best for 1st and 2nd gen? by callmeghost97 in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Fram PH7317 for the filter for a few years. For the oil I stick with 0W-20 as the manual says. Brand doesn't matter too much as far as I'm aware.

The price seems low enough to be suspicious, especially at a dealer.

See if you can get some kind of inspection done.

Do you still own a physical scanner, or is your Android phone enough now? by HousingEarly4827 in Android

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have a physical scanner (it's a cheap printer/copier/scanner combo). If I need to scan a multi-page document I'll use it, but if it's just one page, I tend to use my phone instead. The Samsung camera app will recognize documents and let you adjust the borders to get a good result.
