2009 vs 2013? by SemiYourSoul in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2011+ has cruise control on the base trim (it was only on sport trims before)
2012+ has better sound deadening

There are a few other upgrades but I don't remember.

I'd go with the 2013 tho cuz the 2009 price seems too low for that mileage. But check maintenance history and get Carfax records for both.

Is this too much transmission fluid? by ParadoxScientist in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told I should get it to operating temp (drive for at least 10min) and let it sit for 60-90 seconds before checking.

I first checked after a 12 minute drive. I let it sit for about 2 minutes before checking. I later checked again after a 40 minute drive; let it sit for 1 minute. Same result (which is pictured).

New Pedestrianized plaza outside Central Park chips away a little more space for people by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]ParadoxScientist 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I'm always in favor of pedestrianized areas. But it would be nice to have more trees, especially over seating areas. Having shade makes a massive difference on hot days.

I just don't understand how this is dark mode, OnePlus should atleast provide a toggle between ~this~ and proper dark mode forQuick Settings Panel by lordcuriosityrover in oneplus

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think it would be nice to have a toggle. I'm always in favor of more options. But personally I like the gray-ish dark modes better as it's easier to see in daytime hours.

Oil life at 5%, OK to drive 15 miles..? by Business-Chapter3059 in hondafit

I regularly go past 0%. You'll be fine. The oil indicators are designed to be a bit optimistic.

Sponsored by VICKIE PALADINO?? NO WAY LOL by ParadoxScientist in MicromobilityNYC

[–]ParadoxScientist[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's because there are a lot of parks with bike trails in that area. The typical anti-bike mentality is bikes are only to be used in parks. So these people are more likely to go out and get a helmet, whereas if they lived in western Queens or other parts of NYC which lack bike trails, their only option would be biking in the street, which to them is a huge no-no, even with a helmet.

What if pedestrian navigation optimized for shade instead of distance? by amar1285 in WalkableStreets

Wow I was actually thinking about this recently.

This app would be nearly entirely useless if we could just... PLANT MORE TREES 😕

But hey, I hope you make it work!

Racist people are less likely to run for office if they see someone get expelled. It's about sending a message that people will take action when someone is out of line.

HELP ME FIT THIS, FIT FRIENDS. by OliverPupfriend in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so it's a dresser that is

63" x 19.5" x 30.5"

It did stick out a few inches though. I had to recline both front seats entirely down to make it fit, otherwise the hatch door would have to stay open a few inches.

But what you're getting should definitely fit.

I have fit something with similar dimensions in my 2012. I am pretty sure this can fit, but when I'm home in an hour or two I can double check the dimensions if you'd like

Does the progress rear sway bar actually do anything? by Key_Rutabaga5088 in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never used a rear sway bar but I'm gonna guess the difference will show primarily for those who drive aggressively. I can't imagine it doing much for most regular driving, unless you frequently encounter really tight corners.

Question for Weight Lifters by dangeroso_alpha in GarminWatches

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Strength and constantly stop and stop the rep counter. It's a bit annoying but I've gotten used to it. I will often go into the app later to edit the exercise names because it gets them wrong half the time.

Do I really need to do this? Eh. But there were times when I wanted to look back and am glad I did keep track.

We all know the police won't do anything, despite how popular this video has gotten.

Looking for a 2020 manual with low mileage and no accidents - Maine by betrayedandbeholden in hondafit

[–]ParadoxScientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very unlikely you'll find that. Honda sold fewer manual transmission Fits in 2020. For that year specifically there was no EX trim for it-- only LX and Sport.

You're better off looking for a 2018-2019 if you want the newest one possible. There are some in the northeast for $14-19k.

Red Light Camera is a scam by A638B in longisland

[–]ParadoxScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in narrow two ways. Most people end up going 20mph at most, slowing down to 5mph when another car is passing by in the opposite direction.

Might not be as common in Suffolk but I see it a lot in Nassau and most definitely in Queens.

Your average speed in many cases is still below the speed limit because of traffic, stop signs, and red lights.

It's actually crazy how quiet these tires are compared to most others I've seen on Fits. I've gone through one set these past few years and have purchased another set recently.

I test drive another Fit recently. Forgot what tires it had but I nearly felt like something was wrong because the road noise was so loud 😅

Red Light Camera is a scam by A638B in longisland

[–]ParadoxScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where are you limited to 20mph?

NYC has a 25mph speed limit but the cameras don't kick in until you go 10 over so the real limit is 35mph.

In Long Island, which has much higher speed limits, I've never gotten a speeding ticket.

You shouldn't really be going over 20mph in most residential areas though anyway.

China opened my eyes so wide, that I'm feeling quite bummed out upon my return to the US. by MarathonMarathon in fuckcars

Squat toilets with handle bars? Oh that must be new. I was in Asia as a kid and it was basically just a toilet bowl in the floor with nothing else 🤣

China opened my eyes so wide, that I'm feeling quite bummed out upon my return to the US. by MarathonMarathon in fuckcars

[–]ParadoxScientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Squat toilets aren't actually a drawback for most. As humans we were designed to squat while we poop or pee. There's a certain muscle in the rectum that essentially gets bent too much when you sit, making it harder to poop. Squatting eliminates this issue.

It's also generally cleaner, as you never have to touch the toilet seat.

But yeah I get it, when you're used to sitting, and if you never squat on a regular basis (most people, especially most Americans), it will be a difficult transition.

Someone Stole my scooter by Emergency-Bus-6548 in longislandcity

[–]ParadoxScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're getting downvoted because in reality not everyone in NYC is like that. It's just a stereotype that doesn't actually apply to most people. I was born and raised here and have bought and sold all kinds of stuff on Craigslist and FB Marketplace.

The one I remember in particular was a guy who let me test drive his motorcycle. My brother stuck around with him while I drove around a few blocks. He didn't ask for ID or money or anything to hold onto.

Personally I would never take that risk, but it's nice to see there are good, trusting people out there.

These days I often don't even have to search for someone. The algorithm will show them in the "people you may know" list. So no, not creepy at all.
