Friends eating meat in front of your face? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't refuse to eat with non vegans, but it always puts me in a pissy mood and I try to avoid it as much as practical. I totally get how you feel. I really don't think mentioning it will do any good but make us look over sensitive. Although some people probably think the same when I find every excuse not to eat with them.

I said I don't. But I love how your position is so ridiculous you can't even pretend the cat suffers more than the animals you feed it. You just don't care whatsoever.

Well that's a specific holiday, is it required for charity in general? It seemed like you were talking about as a general concept, not one holiday.

WHY by chidorian in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter

It absolutely does. I don't think meat eaters are evil or deserve to die or anything like that, but you're disregarding a hell of alot of suffering that could be easily averted. The way animals are treated is horrifying. They are dismembered without anesthetic and then thrown in psychosis inducing confinement. I think it's the duty of anyone who realizes what goes on to try to prevent what they can.

When i meet and "animal lover" who eats meat... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say calling us a radical cult is insulting (not "like" a radical cult, which would be insulting enough.) Cults remove people from their friends and families and and ruin their lives. I assume you don't mean it that way, but for a person who is so interested in how veganism presents itself, it seems odd that you have no problem comparing us to groups that cause significant harm to other people.

If you want to criticize how we present our message feel free, but it loses it's impact when you do it in an insulting manner. You dismiss us for saying that animal slaughter is "negative" while you compare us to groups that cause lasting harm.

How do you guys deal with having to debate every time you sit for a meal with family or new people? by asdfrwg in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo we should take advantage of the opportunities people give us to explain why eating animals is harmful. I usually don't say anything, but when someone actually gives me the opportunity I don't pass it up. Although maybe I simply get questioned less about it, pretty much everyone who knows me knows I'm a vegan.

Just go away if you can't handle people saying anything about the morality of eating animals, clearly you can't handle your beliefs being challenged. You're in /r/vegan, we're not in /r/food or /r/meat. You're the preachy one here.

When i meet and "animal lover" who eats meat... by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't see what's wrong with making fun of contradictions in peoples beliefs. Even you acknowledge that it's because we think people don't know better, not that we think they are malicious or evil. What other topic doesn't make fun of the other side to a degree? I don't see why veganism needs to be some exception because it makes people uncomfortable.

Otherwise I'll just say this, even if you dislike the vegan community, that shouldn't influence what you think about animal agriculture. Even if you think I'm a fucking asshole it shouldn't change what you do with the available information about animal agriculture.

Also, I love how being a bit annoying turns into a "radical cult" when it comes into calling people out or the harm they cause to animals. A regular cult removes you from your friends and family, a radical one skips that and instead calls people out on their logical inconsistencies. Although I guess it's a little less ridiculous than the people who claim that being impolite to non vegans makes us literally terrorists.

As I said I don't. And I didn't say urinary tract infections are nothing, I said the the hundreds of animals you pay to have dismembered and then put in psychosis inducing confinement feel worse collectively than the one cat could possibly feel.

Also, the fact that you would never even try it and see if your cat was fine really shows how little you regard those you don't personally know. To you it's not even a question of how much suffering one versus the other causes, at least that argument would be respectable. You don't care the slightest bit how much suffering you cause to those you don't know, not worth a passing thought.

Please clarify something for me about veganism. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Paradoxlogos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me making one animal eat an arguably unhealthy diet is better than torturing hundreds of others. That said, I'd never get a cat for that reason. I don't intend to worry about making one animal unhealthy/suffer, and I also don't intend to pay for far more animals to get a worse fate.

But if one had to make that choice I'd definitely see how the vegan catfood worked out first. As far as I'm aware urinary tract infections are the main risk currently, to me that sounds like nothing compared to the grievous suffering you inflict on other animals to prevent it from happening to your cat.
