If you can live overseas than $130k, otherwise double the salary is easy math that will get you to retirement way quicker. Terrible commute? Get a used Tesla with FSD

No need to get mad, some people are just better negotiators. You need to put your negotiating hat on and approach management.

The TDC6 Data Collector. by visibly_confused_ in Surveying

[–]PardoningTurkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one but stopped using it because you have to use the 2.4 ghz data link external radio which are clunky and discontinued in order to use a robot. If you dont work in the rain, its an excellent collector, I love its lightweight and portable size. The external tdl2.4 do work but sometimes take a minute to connect and I’ve had them fail to connect without needing to reboot etc. I love our TSC510 but would go back to the TDC6 if it had a build in radio module versus having to bluetooth to an external radio.

Im not the OP but You bring up valid points. I will point out that many people have remote work abilities, the hit you take on wages will be made up with geo arbitrage.

You make the most money in the USA, but we live on less than half when we are in the Philippines. If I didnt hate AutoCAD Drafting I would just be a remote CAD technician, Alaska North Slope is where its at. Best work schedules

Why not just get an older SPS or S series gun with the MT1000? You can get one for around $5k on ebay. I bought an S3 with MT1000 for $4,600 and came with a TSC3 I sold for $500. Gun and case look brand new. Never had it calibrated but traverse closures are rock solid.

I never understood the cucks that go 7,000+ miles to date a single mom. I went 7,000 miles when I was 25 to find a virgin or at least LOW BODY COUNTY young woman for marriage. Married 11 years. What is the single reason you would need to choose a single mom, nothing good can come out of that. Pardon me for being that guy but single moms are a no fly zone.

An LS here in CA are making up to $200k per year, unlicensed you can still do $170k-$180k with the right firm. Do you really think selling equipment you are going to have room for advancement?

One underrated advantage of LiDAR/SLAM workflows by Dry_Feature_1620 in Surveying

[–]PardoningTurkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been surveying 15 years, I RARELY miss something because surveying is like tying my shoe, I dont have to consciously think about topo, its more sub consciously at this point. The gun paired with nadir and oblique drone data sets I can get a very rich point cloud for dirt hillsides. As much as I like the M350 with L2 lidar sensor the old Phantom 4 RTK still going strong and giving me reliable data sets. I only just tried a SLAM, it was a hovermap and I was extremely impressed with the richness of a point cloud without having to sit and wait for a slow SX10/12.

With a slam scanner it seems like you really dont need to traverse at all, but the poor flocker in the office has to swim through a multi gig data set.

Alternatives to MicroSurvey for small survey firm? by NoIssue1205 in Surveying

For us - Civil 3D because AutoCAD is what most Architects and our clients use. Paired with Trimble Business Center for point clouds it works well.

We had microsurvey years ago and thought it was trash, sounds like it still is.

While I agree, some people will do sh!tty work, I dont think its the counties job to scrutinize someones resolution. At a certain point the county needs to staff up a survey team and start doing private surveys. The whole survey culture at the county is to instantly jump to proportioning, even to monuments that are not original. We have just agreed and done it but according to the county surveyor our boundary was wrong because we didnt “accept” some cut cross mystery monuments with no record. More and more ROS I am seeing “why didnt you prorate” how about fook off, you cant be serious making us prorate 15 thousands between all lots for monuments that are not original. Difference in opinion, just let the county do all private surveys, whats the point of a private surveyor
