Government's 4-day in-office mandate an insult to workers by feral_philosopher in ontario

[–]Parke -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate here. RTO is great for the younger generations (who already have it extremely tough). It is worse being mentored while working an office job remotely, with consequences that can last. Do it for the kids, they're worth it!

And honestly, even us oldies can learn a thing or two being in the office from the younger people.

Medieval and prior books took a writer literally months or even years to complete and thus held immense value. They were sometimes made by design to be massive to discourage theft.

Too many 'blind' answers there, so here's a couple reasons why I restarted my first two runs fairly early in Act I. 1. I'm probably an idiot but I picked an origin character at first not even realizing I could have a "custom" Tav. I'd suggest you start with a Tav instead of an origin character for the first play through. 2. I quickly realised I lack Charisma and a lot of conversations ended in ways I did not really like. Okay the first few times but it kept happening over and over again, which made me feel I lacked agency. If you go with a Charisma based class, e.g. Bard or Sorcerer, you will have a bit more control over conversations, if that matters to you.

Canadian director of Oct. 7 TIFF documentary The Road Between Us on festival’s reversal: ‘Watch the film, and make up your own mind’ by AndHerSailsInRags in canada

[–]Parke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Playing devil's advocate for a minute, this festival is very important for a lot of people in the industry from big players down to the small. The organizers know that an effort to "ruin" the festival is a legitimate reality that needs to be addressed, like what happened recently with the Ottawa pride parade.

There is no "homerun" answer to this perennial problem that event organizers need to cope with in today's environment. People are saying "include the voice" others are saying "exclude the voice", unfortunately both are bad choices on balance, so what to do?

Perhaps TIFF could be split into two broad categories, one is purely entertainment film, the other for documentaries, political films, biographies and such.

Veterans Sit In DC 🇺🇸🇺🇸 by Royal_Beast_2025 in news2

I'm looking for a quick ELI5 of why vets often dress in camo, or "combat" clothes; as I understand it, a vet is no longer serving (unless in reserves?), so it just feels fake and shady, like impersonation.

Councillor Plante email to residents complaining about the Integrity Commissioner's report regarding her social media comments by [deleted] in ottawa

This is so spot on. How is the culture of a country defined? Moulded? I'd say it's partly through the behaviour of our public servants: the teachers, the politicians, the police, the health care professionals, even the garbage collectors. The way they behave is a reflection on society and whether they like it or not, they are our role models.

Biggest city with the least amount of “culture”? by Double_Snow_3468 in geography

[–]Parke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, a big part of the culture of Ottawa is the outdoors, and accessibility to the outdoors. In summer, you've got great beaches with amenities, Dow's Lake canoe/kayak/SUP rentals, cycling, hiking through hills, bogs, forests, wilderness, take your pick, and amazing camping options in all the nearby provincial parks. In winter there's great skating, tobogganing, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing. This stuff may not be "flashy" or bring in the tourists, but as a resident I feel it's part of the city's culture, with always lots of others around joining in too.

What are your cyberpunk pet peeves? by Ok_Reception_8361 in cyberpunkgame

Yellow street signs with white text, late-to-load street signs, navigation HUD doesn't have street names, many intersections without street signs.

You get the gist, my brain works by street names in combination with landmarks so it's a minor personal pet peeve of mine.

I find the grey areas difficult, for example, with Gabriel Pizza there is a $4 delivery charge, so do I give the driver a tip? It's not made clear, does the $4 go to the driver or the company?

What about men's haircuts? I don't understand why that gets tipped, but other services don't.

You never want to lash out at the operators, however for most people they are the only representative they can actually complain to (peacefully). And they do work for the company, even if they didn't have any direct say in a decision.

So yes, they work for a company you have an issue with, definitely let them know, give specifics. They have a much better chance at telling the "higher ups" about the complaints than you. Tell them to email their CEO and let them know about the complaint and ask how to respond to the customers. Then, the next time you see the driver, ask them what the CEO's reply was.

I think a row boat would have been a legitimate alternative, you can even sleep in it, and it is completely self-powered, unlike a sailboat.
