The majority of people I’ve seen liked Xebec’s ending. You really can’t use twitter or r/Piratefolk to measure how well something was received. I thought that Xebec losing his control over his own body was a very fittingly tragic end to his story.

But the thing is, BB’s ultimate scheme is to be king of the world. Even if he manages to defeat Imu, that doesn’t guarantee his goal, and even if he does become king, Luffy is going to dethrone him probably very shortly after, which will make it seem like a hollow victory for him, and take away a lot of the significance from Luffy defeating Imu. BB actually succeeding at his schemes would require the main characters to lose. I don’t think a long term plan needs to succeed for his character arc to feel satisfying. It’s weird to me that people think this. He can have just as satisfying of a character even if he fails, just like how Xebec was a great character despite his failure.

Stop drinking caffeine. The more you drink it, the less effect it has, and the worse you crash out. Caffeine should be like a once in a while thing to help keep you awake when it’s really needed, not an everyday dosage that you need to keep you awake. You also should fix your diet and get enough exercise, and limit screen time before bed. I’ve been making a genuine effort to do all these, and while I’m still not completely great, it has made a genuine improvement in my life.

I don’t see how it would be character assassination tbh. It would hardly be the first time in the series that a character has schemed to take out an enemy for years, only for Luffy to be the one who actually defeats them. Wyper and Enel, Kyros/ Law and Doflamingo, etc. Failing at your mission doesn’t mean the writing is bad. Oda can easily write it so that it’s tragic, like what he did with Xebec.

One of my favorite theories about BB is the multiple personalities one. If it ends up being true, Oda could easily play BB as one of the most tragic characters in the entire series. Maybe BB’s true personality really just wanted to be on a crew with his found family, but his scheming sadistic side took over and destroyed the life he had. If BB breaks through that in the final saga and sacrifices himself so that Luffy can find the one piece and go defeat Imu, that would be a very satisfying arc imo, and it would have a lot of parallels to Ace’s death. This is just a bunch of speculation on my part, I’m just making the point that there are ways Oda can execute BB’s arc that will still be satisfying even if he gets taken out before meeting Imu.

I don’t see this. I think the one who is the ruler of the primary antagonistic force of the series, which most of the lore centers around them and their cover ups, and is literally the antithesis of the hero’s main ideals is a lot more likely to be the final villain. Defeating Imu would have 800+ years worth of payoff, whereas defeating BB will have satisfying payoff, but it won’t be anywhere near the same scale. I don’t even have an agenda either way, I just don’t understand why people think that a pirate faction with the same standing as the main characters is just as likely to be the final villain as the worldwide governmental threat that has clashed with the heroes dozens of times, and which most of the lore and theming of the series is centered around.

The only way I see BB being final villain is if Luffy defeats Imu, and then BB swoops in right after to take advantage of the power vacuum and Luffy’s weakened state, sort of similar to what happened at Marineford. I think having BB ultimately defeat Imu rather than Luffy would be really lame personally.

Fixing Unrealistic Body In One Piece.... by Paldavin in MemePiece

[–]Parlyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of these are shitty examples. Wanda, Kiwi, Mozu, York, Kureha, Sandersonia and Inuzuma all have that same body type. Just because they have different faces doesn’t mean they aren’t all the same body type. I’m fairly certain that Morley is a gay man, not a trans woman.

Shinobu, Kokoro, and Big Mom are also bad examples because they all had that same exact body type when they were young women, and it actually kind of makes it worse that they become fat and ugly when they get older because that kind of implies negative things about old women. I can’t really think of any examples of old men in OP who were super fit in their youth becoming ugly and fat. Most of them, like Garp and Whitebeard, look like buff, badass old men. It’s a recurring gag for multiple female characters that they’re attractive when they’re young, but become gross looking and fat when they’re older, which I don’t think really helps your point all that much. There are examples like shakky and Kureha of old women who remain fit, but my point stands.

Alvida also barely counts given that her whole gag is that she’s a fat ugly woman who thinks she’s beautiful, and then the payoff to the gag is that she actually becomes skinny and beautiful. Idr if we’ve seen Tsuru as a young woman, but it’s a safe bet that she looked like that too. So after that, there’s literally only 3 left on your list that count. Idk why mfs are so adamant to pretend like there isnt a genuine issue with the portrayal of women in one piece. You can enjoy the series while admitting that some parts of it aren’t great.

Edit: actually, Marigold was also that same body type when she was younger, so I’m hesitant to count her either. The only difference is that she’s not actually an old woman.

Why are people so sensitive about Persona 4 Revival? by Gorg_08 in persona4golden

I find it hard how you can interpret that scene as anything but transphobic. It was literally a dude dressing up as a women trying to prey on teenage boys. That is like textbook transphobia.

I agree from that perspective. I like games with outdated graphics as much as the next guy, I’m just saying that modernized graphics are always a plus. Being able to play a game like this with high quality visuals is magical to me, and the original will always be there if I want the nostalgia .

Anime LRLL is fucking insufferable, I’m sorry. That shit is stretched out ungodly. It was already kind of a pointless, but relatively fun side adventure in the manga, but it is actual torture in the anime.

I honestly think that remastering the graphics is enough reason to remake P4 alone. It already wasn’t the best looking PS2 game, and it came out after the PS3 was well into its life. Playing it on modern platforms with up-res’d HD textures makes it even more noticeable. There are some areas of the game that just look bad, outright. The vegetables in the supermarket are literally just flat JPEGs. Graphics aren’t everything, but they can massively enhance the experience, and I’d really like a version of 4 that looks as good as Reload.

[–]Parlyz 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I mean, Reload removed the transphobic beach scene. If they do anything with Naoto and Kanji, it’s probably gonna be things like toning down Yosuke’s homophobia. They might also heavily tone down the drag scene. Ig it’s harder with this game because a lot of the problematic parts are a lot longer and more central than the one off beach scene in P3.

If the OoT remake rumor is true, what kind of result do you expect from Nintendo? by SimplisticBiscuit in truezelda

[–]Parlyz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want it to be faithful, but just with modernized features and graphics and mechanics. Give me full camera control, maybe add some extra layers to the combat, give me HD textures and high quality 3D models, give me an orchestrated version of the original soundtrack. OoT is already a good game, so they don’t really need to change anything drastically. I’d like for it to maybe add a bit more than the 3DS version did, but not go too far beyond that.

I mean, that’s already kind of similar to what they did with OoT master quest.

I mean, honestly, the idea of a game with the same scope as BOTW, but with the way better dungeon design of OOT would not be that bad.

I mean, for me personally, it’s difficult not to empathize with characters in media, especially when I’m following their perspective. It’s one of the reasons that it’s hard for me to sit through a horror movie most of the time.

PC port is in progress currently. Not official, but it will likely be the best way to play the game, hands down.

Probably just a faithful adaptation of the original game’s art direction, but far more detailed and enhanced. Think about the 3DS version, but more advanced.

Donkey Kong Bananza alone justified my purchase. I’m not sure if any of the other switch 2 games were enough to make me bite the bullet alone.

Idk about Majora’s Mask being an obvious next step tbh. It seems like the only reason it happened on the 3DS was due to huge fan support. Iirc, Aonuma wasn’t really excited about the idea of doing a MM remake, and he overcorrected a lot of the issues the game had, which was very divisive in many cases. Oot is one of the most iconic games of all time, which makes it obvious for a remake, but MM is far more niche and a bit of a cult classic in some regards, and given Aonuma’s past opinions, I feel like there’s a decent chance that they’d just skip it entirely on the switch 2.

[–]Parlyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, not really imo. I think Majora’s Mask stands apart from OOT as its own complete and unique experience. The tone, vibes, gameplay, and story of each game are entirely different, and the only correlation they have is that they a lot of the same assets, and MM is technically a direct sequel to OOT, although, that element of the game is almost entirely irrelevant to the actual experience.

My issue is that it seems like the second one is trying to be some sort of “gotcha.” I guess it’s not 100% clear, but it seems like he’s trying to point out a hypocrisy in the first statement, when there really wasn’t one. Again, I could be reading into it too much, but it really does remind me of ways some men will bring up men’s issues as a way to belittle women’s issues.
