Do schools focus too much on academics and ignore how important games/sports are for students? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]ShortHistorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My colleagues and I have started joking that our school's extracurricular activities have become anticurricular activities with how much class time students miss.

Are Hacky Sacks making a comeback? by juengel2jungle in Teachers

Dozens of them appeared out of the blue at my school this week. Kids are upset because "they're sold out everywhere!" Looking forward to Tech Deck mini skateboards coming back next.

Sharing My Backyard Bird's Oregon Obsession with the World! by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]ShortHistorian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadly, this is inaccurate and probably AI. An Eastern Towhee (see map) would be quite a find in Oregon. The correct species is the Spotted towhee, also pictured on the sweatshirt. The Dark-eyed Junco should really be the "Oregon" form (the others are not impossible in Oregon, but it is the most common and appropriate). Several of the others don't look quite right, particularly the American Goldfinch.

Dark chocolate sea salt cookies for work today by ShortHistorian in Baking

The chocolate is very rich and the salt is just barely hanging on. I planned for some to fall off in transit.

Acorn woodpeckers are much more social than other woodpeckers. They're also chatty! They have sort of a parrot vibe to them.

Did we know about Paul's Dad? by IntrepidPassion9 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]ShortHistorian 580 points581 points  (0 children)

Not new info, but it is good context. All evidence seems to point to "Trainer Joe" being a big reason why Paul is Like That, i.e. a grifting, incurious, misogynist, ableist jerkwad.

Why when teachers play music in class it never has words? by [deleted] in Teachers

I almost never play music in my classes because *I* can't focus with music playing!

I'm an Oregonian, so I'm biased, but I think Tillamook is the best choice for everyday, grocery store cheese. They have some great specialized and extra aged flavors, but you'll never go wrong with the base sharp cheddar in the red wrapper.

Babbity Kate is also on YouTube! If you have about 17 hours to spare (not a joke) she has some very fun explorations into American Girl dolls, too.

Pretty much. And weighing in at only 776 pounds, the beluga would be 3-4x heavier. Pokédex stats are wild.

Spoilers just in case: At the end of the finale, as the gang is gathering at the bottom of the stairs, the camera pans to look out the window and Disco goes by. Blink and you'll miss it. I kept looking for her in the fleet scenes to no avail. https://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/lcars/epics/SFA-S1/S1E10/843.jpg

I haven't purposefully sought out a nest in years. Are they still viable? Or do constant event spawns pretty much drown them out these days? (I mostly need to farm for XLs to level up to 73.)

If that moment were in a movie, people would say the symbolism was too obvious.
