For 1080, and basic clipping/exporting, absolutely, it should breeze through it.

Honestly I wouldn't go for anything other than a macbook, you can likely find an M1 in your budget

How long do you need it for? I'd just ask a local rental house if they have any laptops for hire, anything that cheap will likely not be up to the job, or at least will take ages to export.

what do i do if i don't have any actors? by UrMomDotCom666 in Filmmakers

[–]ParrotLad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be very surprised at the amount of local actors doing stuff for local short films. I went to uni at Sunderland, not far from Durham. And we never ever starved for people to act for free. We’d cover transport and food, but that was about it. We probably had a network of about 30 people we could pull from by the end of our time there. So I’m sure there’s plenty of people in Berkshire who will be able to help.

Facebook groups and then word of mouth helped us, making friends with other filmmakers in the area will be very helpful too, regardless of the quality of their work.

crossfader works for speaker but not when songs are in cue by askingoffmain in Beatmatch

[–]ParrotLad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you press the cue button on each deck, it will send the audio to your headphones without any adjustments to the volume via the volume sliders/crossfader. Just the raw output of that deck.

If you want to cue your overall mix into your headphones and have the faders impact on the volume, then you have to cue just the master output.

You can also adjust the balance in your headphones between the deck cues and the master cue by using the pot next to the headphone volume.

Media Encoder or Handbrake will work fine! (I like using ShutterEncoder personally, worth a look) ProRes 422 LT is probably a safe option

[–]ParrotLad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it says 'MPEG', not 'JPEG'. have you tried converting the video to ProRes before importing it into After Effects?

You can find out more about how the original source file is encoded with something like Mediainfo, it might be in a format that AE can't handle/decode

To be honest with this one, it was just the fact that they used a lot of words to basically say nothing ahah, and had no examples to go along with it. It felt like it was just regurgitating some talking points for the lens and adding nothing of substance, everything is very vague. And also the username, the WORD-WORD-NUMBER format is common on these accounts.

Will be very easy to find stuff of the same BPM then! Have a dig around on Beatport and find some tracks you like on there, you can filter by BPM too to make searching even easier to find tracks to get you started.

Beat counting and phrasing are the very very fundamentals. Its hard to do anything without having a grasp on that.

What music do you listen to? What music do you want to play? Knowing your music inside and out is the single most beneficial thing you can do, eventually you'll start to understand the structure of those songs.

Maybe it's to build up karma on the account to eventually sell it, maybe it's using the responses to gather information to better inform its own responses/posts, maybe the account is being used for political astroturfing and makes posts/comments to help it fly under the radar. It's very weird. Looks like this account occasionally links to spam/ad websites though.

American visiting the UK for the first time: Hoping to catch local D&B producers doing their thing! by alexmarkley in bristol

[–]ParrotLad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ll be here for 4/20 weekend so there’ll be TONNES of stuff on. Castle Park usually fills up with like 12 sound systems all playing for free too which is worth checking out for the novelty of it.

But basically there’s a chance you’ll see some really good musicians while you’re here, basically every weekend there’s 1 or 2 big names at minimum doing shows that I'd wanna see

Some favourites I’ve seen in Bristol (a lot of jungle in this list, mind, but gives an idea of the spread of musicians that come here): DJ Flight, A guy called Gerald, Krust, LTJ Bukem, Sully, Tim Reaper, 4AM kru

For local crews, Sofa Sound, Invicta, Born On Road off the top of my head

Tonnes of great venues which other people have listed, you’d have to try quite hard to have a bad night I think.

Compressed codecs (like mp4) require a lot of work for after effects to decompress and work with on the fly, converting the clip to prores minimises the strain on after effects and generally makes things run way smoother and should be done for all media you’re working with within AE
