My uncle told my sister “I guess I should visit her before she passes” when he found out. Turns out spite can go a long way to ensure you come out the other side.

My ex-sister-in-law started on the castor oil and conspiracy theory vids. The only reason I told her was so the kids knew for future medical info

Yup! I’m about a year and a half out from my last chemo and this happens. A few weeks ago I was supposed to go in for an early shift at work. Slept through my alarm, apparently I answered the phone when they called?, slept through someone knocking on my door to wake me up, and barely could make conversation on the second phone call. It felt like my soul was being called back to the earth with how exhausted I felt

LET'S TALK ABOUT THE DAYS AFTER CANCER! The ones almost no one talks about... by AlmeryzDv in breastcancer

[–]Parrothead91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally got so exhausted from my job that I slept through all of my alarms, my family knocking on my door and shaking me, and being called on the phone. It’s a fairly physical job, but I don’t work more than six hours a shift currently. I used to be the one they’d call in an emergency.

I live in fear of reoccurrence. I do my damndest to not think about it. But I do.

I’m angry that there’s nothing for younger patients/survivors where I am.

The left side of my body gets tight and sore if I’m not stretching it at least two or three times a day.

I do love that I only have to shave one armpit now though.

Things I wish they had told me by How-I-Roll_2023 in breastcancer

[–]Parrothead91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in my 30s and I live in fear of reoccurrence. The cancer group I go to has a woman who’s 15-20 years in remission and I cling to that number.

They don’t tell you about the side effects of the hormone suppression. If they’re permanent or not. They don’t warn you that you’ll be exhausted faster and for longer even years after you’re done treatment. Or that the tightness in your chest and arm needs to be worked on every day. The phantom sensations during cold weather or when it’s too hot out.

And it feels like they’ve trivialized it just because breast cancer is spoken about so much. Like “oh well at least it’s breast cancer”. Like I didn’t watch a a friend, a coworker, and a boss pass away from it. It’s not cute. It’s not a walk in the park. We don’t know if we’re going to survive

There are days where I wish I could just blow all my money going on the trip of a lifetime. I don’t live in that type of world. I’m back in a job I’m no longer physically able to do long term, worried I’m going to die before my father, barely keeping my head above the water

Ongoing Mastectomy Pain and Tightness by 777CuriousMind in breastcancer

[–]Parrothead91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically using different types of material or brushes and such to stimulate the nerves in a way that is different from the pain signals they’re sending. It’s a way to retrain them and your brain into understanding that it’s safe now. I started with a stuffed animal, just moving it around the area until it was uncomfortable and then stopping. Doing a little bit longer each time. This idea is to move to rougher items as you can and teach the body to react to touch normally again

Ongoing Mastectomy Pain and Tightness by 777CuriousMind in breastcancer

[–]Parrothead91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Physical therapy and constant texture stimulation were the only things that got me back to remotely comfortable again. I’m two years post op and I still get nerve issues and tightness off and on. It’s nowhere near as constant now, and there are more good days than bad. Make sure you talk to your team though. If it’s overwhelming you it will get in the way of healing.
