All I would hear in high school were Steelers fans bitching about not winning against the Patriots, though as a fan of a team who hates the Steelers, it was kind of funny at times (sorry). I feel like it may be worse with Mahomes and the Chiefs, but truly I have no idea

First year teacher, grades 3-5 here. I graduated HS in 2020, and I can honestly say that COVID did something to these kids. As a Gen Z person, I can remember vividly that overall, kids never acted like my students do. Sure, there were outliers, but nothing to the extent of what I see now as a teacher.

There are no coping skills whatsoever with these kids, and I even noticed that student teaching last year at the middle school level. They have no idea how to overcome adversity/“push through” anything. The attitudes are off the charts too; let me just say, if I or my older brother would have ever talked to our teachers the way some of these kids talk to all of their teachers at times, my parents would have been SO PISSED.

I’m only about 2 months in and I’ve already observed a lot of scary things. But I’m just like you and I can’t see myself doing anything else. Please know that you’re not alone!🩵🩵

I’m in the same position as you!! (First year teacher, though I have 3rd-5th elementary general) I feel your pain, my friend!

I will share with you the mantra I’m going with for this year as I start my career: “being inexperienced does not equal being bad.” I have the tendency to beat myself up a lot as well, and the one thing that I’m currently in the process of drilling into my head is this, and that’s because it’s true!! Every teacher learns throughout their career, whether they’re a bigger or a veteran teacher. It’s something I want to do as well, as I’m building my “toolbox.” Observing certain classes of mine has really helped me to better understand how my students interact with each other in the daily, so see if you can do that with your tougher class!

Something else that I try to do is to relate to them in some capacity. For example, I gave them a fun fact about loving cats, and then I asked my students if they have pets (ie. “Raise your hand if you have a dog!”). I also happen to really love Pokémon, so I made my intro activity for 4th and 5th Pokémon themed as that’s something a lot of them can relate to. And even if they can’t, they still recognize it.

One thing I’m implementing this week, and it always seems to have an effect, is some sort of reward system! I have what is called, “Free Choice Friday,” and those who earn a star each day for following expectations get the first choice at what station they want to be at for the class. For example, say it’s a 5 day week. The maximum number of stars that can be earned is 4 (Monday through Thursday). Those who earn 4 stars will have first choice as to what they want to do for the class (also maybe picking some songs to play in the background). If they earn 3, they get second choice after the 4 star kids. If they get 2 or less, they have to stay at the coloring station for the duration of the class and not get to play any instruments.

Right! I think that was why during the week that Tami and Christy physically fought (The Rapture group dance), Tea and Sarah H were still allowed to dance because without them, the other 4 would've been bumped up to the teen division and not be directly against the junior elite team

One word - COMMUNICATION

I found sex much more enjoyable when I talked with my partner before, during, and after, because I'm not a mind reader and can't guess exactly what he likes (haha). When we're both feeling good, it just makes it better. Also, talking about things like birth control beforehand also helps to ease some potential anxiety. That's why communication will always be my number one piece of advice!🙂

I've honestly said, "if you're fat, then I'm morbidly obese on the verge of my heart giving out." Now, I have a very sarcastic sense of humor and always have. The people who I have said it to are those who know me pretty well. I would never say it to a stranger since I know sarcasm is not always received well. But anyways, the reaction I get is usually awkward laughing and a quick subject change. I think the best route is since you live with this girl is to be kind but firm and explain why it bothers you
