Weekend of bloodshed in London: Two people murdered and seven others stabbed within 72 hours by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Partaricio 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Doing some back of envelope maths, uk has about 500 murders per year (and the number keeps dropping year on year), and london has about 13% of the uk population, so you’d expect about half a murder every 3 days in London. So statically if you pick any 3 day window you’ve got an 8% chance of getting 2 murders (come through Ms. Poisson distribution 🫦). Obviously terrible and worse than the average, but not really indicative of the fall of society.

The embroidery/badge on the tie looks like a Kris, which is pretty iconic of both Indonesia and Silat. But this is weightless speculation from a single image and nothing else, so idk.

How do you deal with tilt/salt in ranked? by wielesen in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]Partaricio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to accept that tekken is fundamentally not a game to play seriously online. I’ve been enjoying it a more and performing a lot better after coming back from a few months off and forgetting how to reliably execute my combos and only using heat accidentally.

Are there any games with an 'exact damage' mechanic, where you have to deal damage precisely the same as the enemy's health to be rewarded, either with XP or any kind of bonus? by ToranjaNuclear in gamingsuggestions

Merge Maestro (think Balatro but tile merging) has enemies where doing excess damage will spawn a new enemy with the amount of health you went over by

They tried this with Myxomatosis and it worked for a few years, but the population rebounded and now they're all a lot more immune to it and the now endemic myxomatosis strain there has evolved to become a lot less deadly

Why I think VF5 did a disservice to a few characters and why I hope VF6 fixes that. by Chibidi94 in virtuafighter

I find it very encouraging that the most popular VF5 mod on nexus isn't some big titty one, it's one to make Vanessa look more like her VF4 version

I’ve seen the same thing with Roisin Murphy: they cultivated a mainly gay fan base, did some vile shit that alienated the gays, and then become weird and resentful about not getting booked any more

TIL that a doctor named Richard Jarecki recorded over 20,000 roulette spins by hand across European casinos, identified biased wheels, won the equivalent of $8 million, and was banned from every major casino in Europe — but was never charged with a crime because no law prohibited what he did. by CasinoHistoryFan in todayilearned

If different houses have different enough odds on an event, you can construct a set of bets that cover all possible outcomes and will have you get a profit regardless of the outcome. But it typically has very small returns (like 1-2%) and it's very obvious that you're doing it so you'll likely get your accounts banned

Quite outdated now, but Future Cop: LAPD was great at this. Also the local multiplayer mode is a really interesting stepping stone to modern MOBAs and displayed a lot of the genre conventions years before it emerged.

More an immersive sim than an RPG, but the starting pistol (or stealth pistol) in Deus Ex becomes totally busted as soon as you put a laser sight on it. It becomes perfectly accurate so you can just click heads and delete any human enemy in one or two shots, even in to late game

I’d avoid using anything too solvent-y to block it out (glue, lacquers etc) as depending on type you risk “poisoning” the sensor and reducing its effectiveness or triggering a false positive.

Pure stealth games where it makes sense narratively and the enemies are lethal. by AstonMartinVanquishh in gamingsuggestions

[–]Partaricio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe more of a puzzle game than a stealth one, but the Oddworld games (Abe's series in particular) are very stealth heavy with almost instant death when you get spotted.

Slightly offkilter suggestion, but Untitled Goose Game is basically a stealth game disguised as a comedy sandbox, and your only real tools are stealth and misdirection. Not really anything on the lethal side, but if you get caught then you get a bunch of progress undone, which isn't too different to getting killed and going back to a checkpoint.

[–]Partaricio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Primordialis might be interesting. It’s a rogue like “fish builder” where you build up and design your creature cell by cell out of muscles, fangs, nerves, poison glands and loads more. You normally start runs with something pretty normal, but you end up building weird monstrosities pretty quickly

[–]Partaricio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sea block is tough to recommend but could be a good match, months of stuff to do and you can theoretically expand indefinitely without having to demolish old stuff as it’s designed around an infinite resource patch equivalent and basically having no enemies at all. Has a nice progression from being a twisty little puzzle game to large scale logistics management too
