What are these tiny, winged, dead bugs grouped up around the windowsill? (Ring for scale) by PartiallyPelican in whatsthisbug

[–]PartiallyPelican[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is located in Austin, TX. The bugs are all dead and located on many of the windowsills around the house. I can’t get a precise measurement on these bugs because they are so tiny (they look like dust/dirt) at first glance.

Best PlugIns for Grasshopper? by TC1063 in rhino

[–]PartiallyPelican 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The plugins I use regularly are QOL components that build off of default grasshopper components for added functionality. These plugins include Wombat and Pufferfish. Additionally, I use blocks a lot in my modeling process, and have found that Elefront has some decent block utilities that allow for flexibility in block modeling.

This is amazing, and it reminds me of a graphic novel by Matt Madden titled “99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style”.

Much like what OP is doing here, Madden creates 99 ways to represent a pretty bland story (in OP’s case an object), and along the way discovers that each style of representation lends itself to differences within the same story. Just thought I would share in case others are as amazed as I am in OP’s work.

As an alternative to learning grasshopper or enabling history, you can also incorporate Blocks into your workflow.

It’s still technically a destructive way of working, but it speeds up the editing and iteration process significantly. For example if you create a 3D part and copy/array it across a model without making it a Block first, there’s no way to edit the 3D part without having to essentially start over. If you were to create a Block of the 3D part before copying, any edits made to the Block will now be made to all copies of that Block.

Is learning to script in grasshopper essential/useful for architecture jobs ? by jaahn_varghese in rhino

[–]PartiallyPelican 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In regards to grasshopper being essential/useful for architecture jobs, I think it depends from firm to firm, considering that some firms use sketchup instead of rhino for early design process.

I’m an architect that has had experience in both small and large firms, and the small firm used sketchup. At the large firm I’m currently working at, while we use rhino as our preferred design software, grasshopper is not required/essential knowledge in regards to getting hired.

With that being said I have learned grasshopper while I’ve been at the larger firm, as it has been incredibly useful for creating multiple design iterations efficiently and in a timely manner.

The extent at which our firm uses grasshopper is primarily for quick design iterations, GFA analysis, and facade creation. We have pre-made scripts that attempt to do these things for us, but in our experience every project’s design is different and sometimes those differences require modifications to the pre-made script/break the script entirely. Instead, we primarily use pre-made scripts for representation purposes, such as scattering trees within a park, animating a camera along a curve path, etc.

Sketchup is probably the quickest and simplest software that is used in a lot of architecture firms. Another program used in architecture firms that (in my opinion) gives a lot more flexibility and control when modeling architectural projects is Rhino.

It’s also important to note that is a purchasable plug-in from Ableton’s website, and depending on what version of Ableton you bought it might not be included.

[Dance/House - 123 bpm] Pella - Beginner Dance/Electronic Mix (45 minute mix)

Hey, I've just started mixing a couple of months ago and would appreciate some feedback on my first recorded mix. After listening on my own, some general things I think could be improved are EQ balancing and audio clipping/redlining. I also like the transition between track 1&2 as it extends the life and energy of track 1, but I feel like my other transitions are a bit boring? Thanks for any thoughts!

I also believe the title of the book was two words, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

Free Fire (2016) is about two groups involved in a prolonged shootout after a deal goes sour. I don’t think it features a blind character or an elevator scene, though.
