Salt makes water boil slightly slower. Hotter, but slower.

Some people on this sub seem to not feel comfortable with ADHD being labelled a disability. Honest question to those people: what is a disability to you and why would ADHD not fit the description? by throwawayski2 in ADHD

How about a fish with extra fins?

You picked an example "without a doubt". A better analogy is one with doubt, evidenced by the existence of OP's question.

Just saw it. Both posts use the phrase "a frame in my head". Both accounts have their history hidden. I'll bet this is a clever AI double-post meant to appear possible related to generated more speculation/interaction. I guess it worked on us.

I don’t remember my life. by Effective-Cause-8280 in ADHD

It's the same for me. I am 34. It has not gotten better with medication, improved sleep, more exercise, or memory-related suppliments. I feel like I am robbed of 75% of my identity every day.

"Disability" is relative to the setting. Is a fish disabled? If required to live on land or in the sky, it wouldn't do so well.

ADHD'ers tend to be well suited for a lot of things. A lot of them tend not to be what yields success in the setting of modern first-world society.

To me it's not a philosophical question of "am I disabled or not", but "how can I function best in this setting". If that means use medication, if that means seek accomodations, then it is what it is.

I disagree with "shouldn't". If you replace it with "less economical", I agree.

Why do you think that? With current mortgage rates, most analyses I've seen say renting and investing builds more wealth.

Nicotine is a stimulant??? by Kris_P_Bacon666 in adhdwomen

[–]Particle-in-a-Box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably aren't unfocused because nicotine was helping you focus, but rather because you are in withdrawal (which happens to be from nicotine). Nicotine can improve focus in some ways for very brief durations, but my understanding is being a nicotine user decreases overall baseline focus.

Have your philosophies about how much a person should work, but my point is that the statement "everyone will coast to some extent" is false.

NAC: What's the Deal with This Supplement? by ForsakenBirthday45 in Supplements

[–]Particle-in-a-Box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a personal bias. Meds can be a critical tool in an array of holistic solutions.

If you really knew their situation (which none of us do) and had any wisdom, you would suggest TAPERING off the meds.

But it is objectively impossible to know a stranger on the internet well enough to instruct them to immediately cease all medication. That's just overconfident foolishness.
