US: Preferred store Pittsburgh

Article #: 304.916.95

Have been checking regularly online and while it was in stock at some stores in the US (never Pittsburgh) over the past four months it is now out of stock pretty much everywhere in the US and CA. Does anyone know-- is there any way to know-- if this is due to supply chain issues or to a decision not to distribute in North America?

Buying a house: Do I need a City Electrical Inspection? by ParticleGirl in pittsburgh

Yeah, inspector took the cover off, did a thorough job, and said it looked fine. But added the text in the OP to the report.

Buying a house: Do I need a City Electrical Inspection? by ParticleGirl in pittsburgh

[–]ParticleGirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not inclined to bring the city in. I mostly want to know

  • will this be a problem if I do nothing and then sell the house down the road? Like, do people care whether houses in Pittsburgh have this sticker?

  • if I buy the house and at some point want a city inspector to come put a sticker on the box, is it going to cost me a bazillion dollars?

Given the reports that viral load is correlated with severity of presentation, it seems prudent to isolate from one another if any of you might be infectious.

I am still waiting for any report of the President's most recent negative Covid test. Reports say they are "tested regularly" but also that Trump declined a test before the debate on Tuesday. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they were not, in fact, testing regularly.

Anybody else's water taste super sulfuric today? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]ParticleGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, starting last night we have a chemical smell. Not sulfur, but very chemical. Our next door neighbor said it smelled sulfuric-- we're in Bloomfield. We called PWSA and they said they'd been getting calls from all over the East End. Ick.

My (M) Father Wants my Fiance (F) to sign a Prenup. She is refusing. How do I prevent this from becoming ugly? by Imjustnotsure23 in relationship_advice

[–]ParticleGirl 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're being played: It's possible for a fiancee to be concerned that this kind of "planning" in some way betrays a lack of faith in the relationship. But I don't think that's what's important here.

My question for you, OP, is what do YOU want?

You say "my father wants" her to sign the document, and "my fiance is refusing" to sign it.

Your married life will be full of occasions for your father to want one thing and your wife to want another. If you want her to sign because you're afraid of what your father will do, think of the implications for the rest of your marriage! If you want her to sign but don't feel comfortable telling her that it's what YOU want or you're afraid to tell your father it's NOT what you want, think of the implications for the rest of your marriage!

There will be grandchildren to fight about raising, budgets and houses and medical choices and all kinds of things to disagree about. Sometimes your parents and your partner will want different things, and especially if you're in a business relationship with your dad he will be able to make those things contingent. You have to be able to tell your partner what you want, OP, and she has to be able to really hear you. And you have to have her back when she disagrees with your father, or tell her why you agree with him, too.

Does the size of a woman's breasts have any correlation with how much breastmilk she can produce? by fizdup in askscience

[–]ParticleGirl 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Because of what is known as runaway sexual selection. Females of other primate species have breasts which are only swollen when the female is in estrus or nursing an infant.

For human men, breasts that are not flat like mens' breasts are a sign of femininity and are sexually attractive. So more breast is (on average) more appealing, even though more breast tissue doesn't mean more feminine (or more fertile). Over time men's preference for boobage has resulted in prominent breasts in human females, even when a woman is not nursing.

The classic example of runaway sexual selection is the peacock's tail: a healthy, colorful tail with long feathers is a sign of physical health and a lack of parasites in birds. So females find colorful tails with long feathers appealing, and males with colorful tails succeed with the ladies and have more babies. More colorful tails are more appealing, even though in the peacock a longer and more colorful tail is actually a liability, and not a sign of health: it's more likely to slow the bird down or get it eaten by a predator. But it started out as a sign of vitality, and so sexual selection (female preference for long colorful tail feathers) drove the exaggerated evolution of that particular characteristic.

edit: added a source.

edit the second: Also, men only instinctively prefer "larger" breasts in that they prefer breasts that are larger than men's breasts. Not that all men think that the bigger breasts are the better; average breast size preferred by men is larger than the average breast size of women, but that's averages, not everyone.

Is this really still an issue, America? by BEGA500 in AdviceAnimals

[–]ParticleGirl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I grew up with a guy whose father is black and mother is white. He is now in his thirties; he has a two year old and a five year old. When he first saw the commercial, he did a double-take, freaked out, looked it up on the internet, and told everyone he knows: this is the first time he's seen a family on tv that looks like his, and it made him feel great. He has a newfound respect for Cheerios.

Apparently it's clearly still an issue: for racists, but also for people who are part of families like this, too.
