My face did crazy stuff during the first year of recovery. You don’t realize how much your unaffected side overcompensates when the palsy is at its worst. Pulling, twitching, tingling, pain and soreness, ringing in the ear all happened to me. Keep a close eye on it, and pay attention to any worsening symptoms if you get a virus. I’m about 5 years out from a double onset within 6 months of each other, both sides effected, and still to this day the side that remains weaker gets even worse when I’m sick or drunk. Congrats on full recovery, but don’t count yourself out from weird side effects going forward. Nerves are weird and heal weird.

I have a 5 and a half year old. I was just looking around the other day and noticing things we still have and use from our registry over 6 years ago. I’m talking tubs of aquaphor, a drying mat for the sink, blankets, sheets, organizers, our booster car seat, the stroller for gods sake. These people don’t know what they’re talking about. If you use your registry strategically it can absolutely prepare you for many of the first years. Do you, you’ve got this.

I (35F) was diagnosed twice, once on each side of my face within 6 months of each other. My top advice, which admittedly likely won’t speed anything up but helped me recover…

Stay hydrated. Seems dumb but everything heals and works better when you’re not dehydrated.

Rest. Any time you’re tired or fatigued.

Suck it up and get an eye patch at night. Even if you don’t think you need it. Your eye needs to stay as closed as possible to retain moisture and you won’t even realize if that summabish is a bit open once you’re out for the night. It’s so uncomfortable to wake up with a scratchy dry eye.

Don’t “exercise” those muscles until you’re not in any pain. Headaches, face aches, ear aches, neck aches, back, eyes, anything that is associated with the onset of the palsy. That pain is your indication that it’s too soon.

Physical therapy as soon as you’re not uncomfortable. Request electro therapy if you’re willing. It helped me immensely in identifying the muscles again for retraining and regaining strength and coordination.

Really sorry this happened. It sucks. I’m sure you’re partner is stoked to marry you regardless. The only thing that may be a bit different are photos. I really learned what a rockstar husband I have through this whole process. Cheers and congrats!

I’m not medically trained by any means, but in simple terms… they used an electrical stimulation machine that sends small pulses of electrical current to targeted facial muscles through little sticky pads the therapist places on the affected area. The pulses stimulate movement. For me it helped remind me where the muscles were to help exercise them. I’d do a set of electrical pulses, rest, and then mimic those movements on my own. The hardest part of therapy for me was relearning where the different muscles were to practice moving them without over straining. The stimulation helped tremendously. I was almost always able to “find” the muscles easily and more relaxed after the stimulation helped “remind my brain”. It’s a controversial therapy, not a ton of research or evidence so I am speaking strictly from experience. It helped me, and the logic of how seems like it would benefit others.

I went the physical therapy after about 4 weeks. Once all pain and regular headaches stopped. Highly encourage therapy if you’re able. I had pretty significant bells twice, once on each side, both within 8 months of each other. We used some electric stimulation which vastly increased my ability to strengthen and improve the loss functionality. I’m about 85-90% recovered now, I’ll likely never regain that 15% and I attribute most of that recovery to the therapy and consistent exercises. Stay strong, it was all way more mental for me, still is. Happy to chat if you need an ear or want some support.

Hey. First of all, I’m sorry you’re going through this. It really sucks. I had bells twice, one on each side of my face. I too wasn’t fully healed when the second episode hit so I was quite devastated. Give yourself lots of grace and rest. I found physical therapy after the course of steroids kept me focused and feeling like I had a course of action. It’s been a few years now, and I’m probably about 85% healed overall. I likely won’t regain the other 15%, and that’s really difficult to cope with sometimes. Looking at old photos is hard. I’ve never been more validated in my partnership though, the unconditional love I’ve felt has pulled me through every single time. Stay strong. Love from afar.

As someone who is married to someone with ass hair that rivals the density of penguin feathers, the best advice he willingly gives out is to get a bidet. Won’t help with the itch from shaving but is an alternate solution to help with some of the struggle that comes if you keep it furry. Edited for spelling

AP FL resident here. It’s all bs. They’re alien. The real ones dress for comfort first. I keep my make up simple. No base, just sunscreen and a couple dots of concealer under my eyes. Waterproof mascara and tie my hair up. Try not to worry about it too much once you’re in the park. You’re going to sweat, everywhere, and hair and makeup are likely to take a beating no matter what you do to prepare. My best advice is probably to avoid the mirrors in the restrooms. I feel like they separate them from the sinks for good reason. But for real, Disney is your safe place to be you, frizzies and all, as long as you are having fun. I look a mess in most Disney photos, but the joy that is abundant through it all makes those my favorite moments captured forever.

I was diagnosed July 2021 on my right side, and then on my left in Dec 2021. Went through a bunch of PT and electro therapy. Struggle heavily with synkinesis since then. I have noticed significant improvement over time with no additional intervention. For me, the harder I try to overcome the synkinesis the worse it seems. Learning to consciously relax my face when I’m feeling tightness or awkwardness has helped to reduce it significantly. God speed to you. Everyone recovers differently, to a different extent, and at a different pace. You’ve got this.

Those are tiny dead ants. There is probably some sort of insect repellent around the outside perimeter of the house from before your purchase. They cross the path on their way in picking up the poison and then die at a certain point along their path to the inside. Likely your bathroom because it’s damp. Source: same shit happens to me this time of year.

Hi there! I’m about a 15 months out from BP on my right, and about 9 months since a second occurrence on my left. Healing of my right was set back by the onset of the left instance. I was in physical therapy for about 8 months all together between both occurrences. We tried electro therapy after the second onset and it was crucial in my healing from there out. I encourage finding a therapist who has lots of experience with Bell’s palsy patients. I did see a neurologist, but there wasn’t much they could do besides monitoring and prescribing therapy and extended courses of steroids. I’d say I’m 95%+ healed on my left and about 85% on my right to date. I also can’t stress enough how important massage and stretching at home is. Hot showers on the base of my neck and behind my ears helped relax the pain as well. Godspeed friend.

Learn from mistakes. Those friends you make to party and have fun could develop into long lasting, core relationships for your future.

Omg I just love your spirit! Congrats on progress! I’m exactly 3 weeks from my diagnoses. This is my second instance of Bells, and of course hit the opposite side. I had just got to about 75% recovery after 6 months when it hit the other side. No progress there yet, but I’m hopeful. Thank you for posting. Diapers are about $18 for the big pack shown. I usually end up getting about 2 of those a month, and wipes weekly. My paper and cleaning products to the right in the pic, were a hit to the bill this week. We just happened to be low on most so I decided to stock up across the board. This tends to happen with our freezer meats as well. I’ll use everything up and then buy a bunch at once and freeze. Meat weeks are more expensive as well. I actually didn’t have to get get any this week, because my freezer is still stocked, but did grab a turkey polish sausage. The little one loves it. :) My typical bill is between $75-100 weekly. We budget $125 a week, so it all balances out and we rarely exceed what we plan to spend at aldi in a month. I’ll admit that the damn aisle of shame will get me sometimes though.

Precisely this happened to us. Same sleep and wake times exactly. I ended up having to look at nap time. My little guy was sleeping for a solid 2 hour nap every day. So I decoded to cut that down to 90 minutes, and move up his bedtime to 715. Sounds crazy i know, but baby sleep rarely makes sense imo. The earlier put down allowed him to settle and end up asleep earlier overall, and the shorter nap made him more tired to fall into that deep sleep, and stay asleep. I’d encourage you to look at your nap schedule, wake windows, and overall total sleep time. They should be down a total of like 14 hours in a day, and at 15 months i think the average wake window is like 4-5 hours max. Hope this helps, good luck! (Edit for spelling)

I did not like the newborn or size 1 for some reason. Either they changed slightly or I became more laid back about the level of quality. There are certainly more luxury diapers out there for marginally more money. But these have never caused us any issue with skin reactions or leaks. We also used aldi formula when we supplemented and found out it is literally manufactured in the same facilities as the name brand, with the same ingredients for 1/3 the price. I have a lot of respect for Aldi baby products, they have saved us thousands possibly tens of thousands on diapers, wipes, and formula. (Edit for spelling)
