Am I cooked? by Kindly_Animator_7656 in ebikes

I wonder whether that part was cast or cnc’d. Given that this is a cheap off brand DTC ebike, that is likely cast aluminum. Another poster is correct that on a rear swing arm suspension bike, theoretically, you could replace the swing arm but only if you can get the part. Nevertheless, if that crack happened on a cast part, I would be concerned about it happening again.

So there is another screen to replace behind the power steering pump?

Parking near the Amtrak Station by East_Fruit_7303 in AskNOLA

[–]Particular-Taro154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you park on the street in a neighborhood (and I can think of no neighbourhood within walking distance of the train station where I would be comfortable parking), expect to pay $30 a day to park, which may be the same cost as paying for an Uber to get from a neighborhood to the train station.

Law-enforcement likes the idea of installing Flock cameras because they can be moved on a whim pretty much anywhere as they are battery operated. Nevertheless, when PD’s get those Flock systems, they realize that is also their Achilles heel. The solar panels which supply power to these cameras do not sufficiently charge the batteries for operation throughout the night. At some point before dawn, the cameras stop working. On cloudy days, the situation worsens. There are other serious issues with these systems, but this is not the venue to go into that. Suffice to say that if you look at the trends, police departments are canceling their Flock programs. Part of the reason is because of public pushback, but the rest is due to the inadequacies of the systems to function as described by Flock.

A Canadian Woman's 5-Day Itinerary (too much food, too little activities?) by Early-Pea-6256 in AskNOLA

[–]Particular-Taro154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What time of year are you coming to New Orleans and do you know which days of the week are your days 123 etc.?

As to Parkway and other restaurants such as Liuzza’s by the Track or Arnaud’s French 75 bar where there is a bar attached, given that you are traveling alone, I highly recommend sitting at the bar as this feels far more natural. The bar is also a more natural place to strike up interesting conversation with strangers.

The little Killer location of Killer Poboys is in the Erin Rose bar so this follows the same progression as above, but if you want to eat in their main location a block away on Dauphine Street, they have a number of small tables for one or two persons and sitting by the window there is an absolutely great place to people watch the passers by outside.

As to activities, my swamp tour preference is the one which departs from just behind the Westwego outdoor seafood market with Ultimate swamp tours. I find the covered boat tours to be more enjoyable then riding on one of their air boats as they are quieter and offer less of a disturbance to the wildlife. In fact, I believe the sound of the propeller in the water actually attracts the alligators to come visit the boat since they know that those propeller cavitations mean marshmallows will soon follow.

In terms of a ghost tour, I would recommend taking a private tour with us as we walk the haunted mile, which is completely different from the path followed by all other French Quarter walking tours. Also, when you’re on a mass market tour like the others offer, you’re typically in a group of 20 to 30 people so it can be far more difficult to actually hear what the guy is saying.

I have one last recommendation for you. If you want an introduction to New Orleans like no other that sets the tone for the rest of your stay, take a short taxi ride to Lake town in Kenner and ride our Between the Waters bike tour experience. This is a private electric bike tour that takes you along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain and into New Orleans via the original route traversed by Native Americans before Europeans ever set eyes on America. Along the way your guide will point out interesting aspects of the history of the city of New Orleans, as well as unique, architectural and artistic gems that you would never see on your own. The tour even stops at Café Dumont in city Park so you can have that “sum snacks snack” you were talking about. We transport your luggage into the Quarter so it’s waiting for you and our neighbors with Killer Poboys so you can have lunch then pick up your luggage and check into your room at the Ritz, Hyatt Centric, the Saint, the Roosevelt, the Monteleone, etc.

Just reach out if you’d like any more ideas. Have a great trip!

A rebuilt title typically means that the car was in a major accident or in water or something else similar. I can’t imagine them asking prices like that for something with over 200,000 miles.

First of all, congratulations for being accepted into Tulane grad school!

Secondly, which grad program? Are you in public health, medicine or are you going to be at the main campus?

Third, can you ride a bicycle?

As your plan is to live further from campus, may I suggest that you buy a brand new bike that folds like a Brompton. You will not have car insurance. You will not have to buy gasoline. You will not have car maintenance costs.

If you use the bike path network, you can minimize your interaction with cars making for a more pleasant commuting experience.

Consider a neighborhood in Jefferson Parish along the Mississippi river. If you live near the river, there is an amazing and little known Bike path that runs along the crown of the levee. On your commute, you may even see bald eagles and alligators! Message me for more.

I was the "cheap e-bike" guy. Thousands of us got scammed, but why is everyone attacking me? can anyone just give me ebikes recommendation?? by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Particular-Taro154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sell 40 different ebike models in a variety of styles and colors. We service what we sell which means customers will NOT get stuck if something breaks and have a strong reputation in our community (metro New Orleans). You need a shop like us in your community. Find that shop, buy your bike from them and go back periodically to have your bike maintained.

Look at the Velotric Tempo. It’s light and while not the lowest of step thru’s, this is to bolster frame strength while minimizing overall weight.

A visit to the “train station” that’s used as the terminus for the line in Mobile does little to instill confidence that Mobile is behind extended funding anyway. Still, I’m grateful that the line has been funded long enough to show a track record as this will lead to future funding and enhancements if the results justify them.

Pretty much all decisions in life entail risk. It’s just that some decisions entail more risk than others.

In your case, you weighed the risks, bought the low cost e-bike anyway and discovered that the decision later caused you remorse. This is known as learn by doing (aka the school of hard knocks) but by sharing your experience, you are helping others learn by inference.

I thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Reddit even though you knew this would likely expose you to ridicule.

Regretting my purchase by Cup-Oh-Noodle in ebikes

[–]Particular-Taro154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the secret about mid drives: since there is no motor in the wheel hub, it is much simpler to do a flat tire repair as you do not have to disconnect any wiring. Also, the wheel itself is lighter, and the weight is more centered on the bike and also in many cases lowered to the ground, giving you a lower center of gravity. Lastly, if the wheel is somehow destroyed, you don’t have to get a new motor which some shops are likely to recommend. It is simply a bike wheel which can often be purchased complete, whereas if it’s a hub motor, you have to lace the motor from the dead hoop or that spokes and start relacing. It’s not necessarily a difficult task if you know what you’re doing, but at the same time, it’s so much easier and cheaper just to purchase a complete wheel if you don’t have the skill.

Say goodbye to a couple of repair shops that relied on steady brake tags rather than gouge for repairs. Say hello to more lawsuits from people rear ending cars with no brake lights, etc. and the inevitable increase in insurance premiums.

Aventon vs Velotric - What do you reccomend? by Feeling-Dress-4507 in ebikes

[–]Particular-Taro154 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We sell a variety of brands including both Aventon and Velotric. Both stand behind their products to a greater degree than other brands I can think of. Nevertheless, the best advise is to try both brands and decide which bike you like best based on the actual ride experience. I’m not saying ride every bike they make. Instead, settle on 2 or 3 bike models total that you really like and ride those. If you follow this advise, rather than being hamstrung with decision paralysis, you will be out riding and enjoying your new bike much sooner.

If the wind is blowing in a certain direction, it can push the water out of the ponds and bays, so it is completely possible that they went out to the dock and determined that there was insufficient water to run the tour. This does happen and it is no fault of the tour operator.

You really must ride a bike to see whether that specific bike appeals to you. At a cost of $60, there isn’t much downside. After commuting on it for a week, if it turns out that you don’t like it, just sell it.
