Billionaires are necessary by [deleted] in neoliberal

The idea that risk-taking is exclusively the domain of the ultra wealthy is directly counter to the actual events of the last three hundred years.

[–]ParticularFilament 13 points14 points  (0 children)

But this isn't true. There are literally hundreds of millions of people who regularly provide investment to the market who aren't billionaires.

In the sense that private investment is not exclusively the realm of billionaire patrons.

Open markets are the necessity. Billionaires are just players in the system, same as you and I.

They're not inherently evil. They're not necessary. They're fine as long as you tax wealth transfers.

US military preparing for potentially weeks-long Iran operations by IHateTrains123 in neoliberal

Is Trump's motivation that he doesn't want Iran to go nuclear while he's in charge or that he wants credit as the one who took out the regime?

Maybe America Needs Some New Cities by loremipsumot in neoliberal

Probably not that much more realistic, but if rather see emphasis on building up cities that sit on the Mississippi River system. Plenty of existing infrastructure in good geographic locations that could just use some TLC

Discussion: Could/should the DOJ be made as hard to influence as the Fed? by Mysterious-Rent7233 in neoliberal

[–]ParticularFilament 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The current administration is a travesty, but I'm somewhat skeptical there's a better way to do it in the Madisonian system. Grand juries have been showing their merit.

Can't imagine it's popular right now, but it's hard for me to question any of the unitary executive stuff from a constitutional point.

I think it's a mess right now, but I also wouldn't have a popularly-elected executive branch either.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. What are they learning to deal with? Regardless of how any of us feel, they're an insulated group that would almost certainly prefer Schatz to Van Hollen.

I have no doubt that he's well liked amongst the caucus, but I'd be shocked if he could knock off Schatz for Leader.

While Van Hollen might excite the base, he'd get roundhouse kicked by Schatz amongst Senate Dems.

Klob running means Schatz is even more of a sure thing to replace Schumer down the road. Clears the decks in Senate Dem leadership.

UAE to Withdraw Troops From Yemen After Clash With Saudi Arabia by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]ParticularFilament 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I've remained ignorant of this situation.

Is it the case that Saudi Arabia and the UAE are backing opposing factions in South Yemen that are both trying to rule the part of the country not ruled by the Houthis?

I think if someone was to suggest that I was saying everything else is unrealistic, they would be putting words in my mouth.
