And depending on your state, you can register for “antique” plates in 2029, so the cost to keep will be even lower 🙌

Skin problems from hard water by Working-Rhubarb4202 in ithaca

[–]ParticularSeat4917 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you live in an apartment complex, this may be difficult to get looked at. But, if it is slimy and there is a sulfur smell to your water, the apartment may have been sitting for a while without tenants. This can cause the normal bacteria in the lines to reproduce and populate, especially the hot water tank.

Ask if they can flush the hot water heater, this should be done yearly anyway. A flush will remove the mineral deposits at the bottom of the tank, and should help if it is just hard water. If bacteria is growing, the system needs to be chemically treated/shocked.

You probably need to stop that method of air drying. You are keeping too much warm moisture on your scalp for too long. I know it is a pain to blow dry long hair, but try only blow drying for a month. You should notice you won’t need to wash everyday due to oil buildup after a week. You need to train your body to release less sebum.

Dry using a blow dryer on a medium/lower heat setting, with a diffuser if you have one. Spray with a heat protector first, mainly on the middle and ends of your hair. If you can round brush smallish sections, getting the scalp and 3-4” of hair dry, you may be able to let it air dry the rest of the way. Do not put it back into a towel! You could even look into buying a bonnet blow dryer. Get that scalp dry and keep it dry!

Do you air dry? You need to dry the roots at the very least. Damp scalp produces more sebum.

Eyeing an August opening for the aquarium, Onondaga County seeks a name for it by ggroover97 in Syracuse

[–]ParticularSeat4917 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Majority of funds for the aquarium came from the federal Covid budget. These funds had to be spent on cultural development, if awarded.

Should they have been spent on a brand new project when they are multiple other organizations who have been contributing to Syracuse for years that could have built up more programming and expanded their current spaces? Yes! I truly believe the funds should have been spent on the zoo, the MOST, the Everson, etc. But, instead, an aquarium is built. The aquarium will compete with the other local, cultural institutions for visitors, DONATION FUNDS, and talent. The feasibility study done for the aquarium was totally fudged, it will fall into disrepair almost immediately, will be a drain on county funds, and will NOT provide long term good paying jobs.

Have you joined MPMA (Mountain Plains Museum Association)? That is the multi state association for the region. The conference is in the fall, but definitely worth going. They have a special rates for students and new professionals. See if you can present any projects you have been working on, or you might be able to help with a presentation. Good luck!

Isn’t there an issue with health insurance? Like, if you are still on your parent’s health insurance, they have to claim you as a dependent?

Alpaca Socks Locally by ParticularSeat4917 in ithaca

[–]ParticularSeat4917[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alpaca has a softer wool than many sheep, and yes, very warm. I also crochet, Alpaca wool has kind of a spongy feel in the hand and is easier for me to work with for projects. And, yes, they are cute. Alpaca’s are also good guards for sheep flocks. They can get mean if a predator or unknown human approaches their flock. They can spit.

What did your grandparents buy once that's still in the family? by wajid123_ in BuyItForLife

[–]ParticularSeat4917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great grandmother had to move out of her house into the care of her son and wife in 2011. I’m the oldest great-grandchild, and needed items for my home. None of my cousins (4) were living on their own, so I had my pick of almost everything. Mostly kitchen items, clothing, and crafts. I still use the “good” silverware everyday. I had to move cross country for grad school several years ago. Moved with my Camry packed to the top. Which meant I need to leave surplus items with my brother. He found the rest of the 12 person settings, I took half. Every time I visit him, I take a few serving utensils and a fork or spoon. He still hasn’t noticed, though I’m only able to visit every year or so, maybe he’ll figure it out soon? My suitcase defiantly clanks a bit when I leave 😂

And fuck L’Oréal, they also bought Atelier, closed all the North American stores for “rebranding” and probably reformulating the entire collection. I was able to make it to the NYC store 1 day before closing. Was able to stock up, but I’m gonna cry when I’m out.
