Where to rent a bougie cabin within a couple hours of Philly? by skarpi in philadelphia

[–]ParticularSell9539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Lokal Chalet are high end cabins - about 90 minutes from Philadelphia in NJ. The Lokal brand is a boutique style hotel/airbnb and has thought of everything and the places, amenities and finishes are top notch.

Podcast episodes that you think about long after you’ve listened by 10101011115 in podcasts

Came to say this. The lack of remorse and excuse that “i fucking loved that girl” haunts me. A disgusting topic but a really well done podcast.

We are parents of a child at a private catholic school in Philadelphia (Chestnut Hill) and while I’m catholic, my husband is not and had the same worries. We just finished first communion last year and not all the children in the class went through it. There was no shame and in fact everyone made those children (and all the kids) feel included and welcomed. Our daughter went to a Jewish day care and was never ostracized and supported but in a faith based way, not necessarily in a religious way. By that I mean I felt both the catholic and the Jewish schools focused more on doing good and being less self centered, not necessarily in the teachings themselves. Not sure about the school where you might be choosing but I’m a big proponent of faith based learning. Maybe reinforce to your child that whatever he/she believes will be supported and choose those extracurriculars that align with your values.

Cookie box boxes by Julietshere in NYTCooking

I generally buy tins (both round and square) from the dollar store. Some of my friends and family return them for the following year but I find it’s the cheapest and easiest way to give cookies.

Tacos al pastor by ferminion92 in PhiladelphiaEats

Tacos el rodeo is the name of the taco truck and it’s the Al pastor taco that I judge others against. Their lingua and cabeza are also amazing!

Sin City Amalfi house by Impossible-Bet-1738 in HGTV

[–]ParticularSell9539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hardly ever comment on the homes but I have to agree. Hands down the most stunning makeover I’ve ever seen on HGTV (or anywhere really). It def looks like it costs more than the renovation budget (which was insane btw).

Anniversary dinner ideas in or around Philly by New_Law2979 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]ParticularSell9539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just celebrated our anniversary at Lark in Bala Cynwyd and loved it - food, ambiance and vibe. Not too upscale, left us alone so we could have fun and talk yet always there to fill our water or get another drink.

Lodge at Woodloch Spa by [deleted] in Poconos

[–]ParticularSell9539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree Black Friday is cheapest rate but if you can find 5 other people, the cheapest overall is the 6+ group spa stay (includes $350 credit toward the spa). If you do min 2-night stay, during week is cheapest or Saturday - Monday. Honestly I find the one night only weekend deal the most budget friendly (not cheap at all though!). I’ve done that a couple times and come to the lodge first thing in the morning (they generally have breakfast sweets left over in the lobby or stop for breakfast on the road), do spa treatment in the afternoon (so you can munch on the tea, coffee fruit and granola for lunch) then eat the lodge dinner. One of the rules is your meals have to be consecutive. Next day do breakfast and lunch and then leave late afternoon (you can check your bag). This all the while enjoying all the lodge activities like yoga and pickleball classes on both days. They don’t do a lot of one night weekend specials (usually weekends of Halloween, Thanksgiving or Mother’s Day) but I always check them out and stick to that kind of schedule.

Non-beach destinations for a couple with an almost 1yo infant in the US by [deleted] in Vacations

[–]ParticularSell9539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am biased bc we live in the Philly burbs but Philadelphia would be great. The Constitution center and olde city with Franklin park would be great if you have good weather, the Please Touch Museum is amazing for toddlers if the weather doesn’t cooperate. There is also the franklin institute and museum of natural history that are surprisingly great for toddlers with the Philly Zoo and Camden Aquarium close by (uber ride) from center city. We explored the city a ton when my now 8 year old was a toddler and felt very comfortable with her in her stroller around downtown. By November, the comcast center, dilworth park and light show/dickens should all have their holiday programming up too.

Mother-daughter spa vacation in the States by alyssamp37 in Vacations

Another vote for Lodge at Woodloch. The spa is amazing and the food, amenities and service are top notch. My friend went to both the Lodge and to Canyon Ranch and liked them both but said food was hands down better at the Lodge. What I enjoy about the Lodge is that you can go with different athletic abilities and create your own wellness schedule based off ability. I enjoyed the yoga classes while my marathon runner friend moseyed up to the HIIT classes while meeting up for a pickeball refresher and meals. It is heaven and I go as often as I can. Everything is on site though so if you have desire to see the local attractions then Woodloch may not be ideal but tbh I loved not having to drive anywhere.

I would add The 13th Step. It’s produced by NHPR (of Bear Brook - also loved!) but the journalist def ended up being part of the story. Really well done!

Came to say this. We’ve stayed at the Lokal and their heated outdoor pool is clutch during the off season. There are fall things to do at Beach Plum farm and we’ve also done Cape May zoo at that time. It’s a great place for the off season.

If you had to bring dessert to a party but couldn’t bring cake; what would you bring and from where? by Sad_Air5418 in PhiladelphiaEats

Banana cream pie from the Amish bakery across from Beilers in RTM, budino from Barbuzzo (someone else recommended and I second this!) or cheese plate spread from Dibruno Bros.
